But, considering the status quo, rules and pride that incompasses Afganistan, one can see the harms in bringing this truth to the public. The reader can notice the pride and status Baba holds in Kabul. He is wealthy, owns many businesses and holds a high reputation as given in example, “Baba proved them all wrong by not only running his own business but becoming one of the richest merchants in Kabul. Baba and Rahim Khan built a wildly successful carpet-exporting business, two pharmacies, and a restaurant” (Hosseini,15). The truth of his relationships with a Hazara woman would taint Baba’s reputation and kill his business. As the head of the household and a businessman, Baba must also consider the amount of people he carries. If his reputation was ruined, his whole family would fall as well.
