On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, and the speech was very powerful. He gained my attention in the very beginning because he referenced an important event in American History which was the Emancipation Proclamation. Also, he never looked down at the podium which tells me he memorized his speech which is a great thing, he had amazing eye contact. He was also very confident and knew exactly what he was talking about. Martin Luther King Jr. gave an amazing speech he used gestures and had a strong voice to make his speech effective. Martin used a lot of repetition to get his point across to the audience, and he also used specific examples to defend his argument. Martin delivered his speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. In his speech King states, “You have been the veterans of creative suffering.” It references biblical symbolism. In my opinion I think that creative suffering means that he’s referencing the practices of the nonviolent behavior that was happening, and he encourages those who engage in nonviolent behavior. In my opinion I do believe that the speech accomplished what it intended to accomplish because the message that Martin Luther King Jr. was trying to give was that all people no matter what color of their skin would be equal, and have the same rights, and as of today blacks and whites all the same rights, but I do believe we have different consequences. In my opinion Martin Luther King Jr. doesn’t need any improvement to his speech. I think it’s great just the way it is he was a very powerful and passionate speaker.
