Ever since marriage, Zenobia, also referred to as Zeena, revolves around her illness. Furthermore, she is prone to silence, rage, and querulously shouting. Ethan has dreams of leaving Starkfield and selling his plantation, however he views caring for his wife as a duty and main priority. One day, Zeena’s cousin, Mattie Silver, comes to assist the Frome’s with their daily tasks. Immediately, Mattie’s attractive and youthful energy resuscitates Ethan’s outlook on life. She brings a light to Starkfield and instantaneously steals Ethan’s heart; although, Ethan’s quiet demeanor and lack of expression causing his affection to be surreptitious. As Zeena’s health worsens, she becomes fearful and wishes to seek advice from a doctor in a town called Bettsbridge giving Ethan and Mattie privacy for one night. Unfortunately, the night turns out to be a disastrous and uncomfortable evening. Neither Ethan nor Mattie speaks a word regarding their love for one another. Additionally, during their dinner, the pet cat leaps on the table and sends a pickle dish straight to the floor crashing into pieces. The Napping House (1984) is a children’s book that illustrates an interesting story about a family and their journey into attempting to get to sleep. Each page a new person or animal piles onto the last person. It starts with a bed in the house, then a granny, then child and so on. As the story builds suspense, the additions continue to decrease in size finishing with a tiny flea. Amazingly enough, the flea creates an amazing ripple effect by biting the mouse and the mouse is startled to say the least. “Home is where the heart is.” In The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros develops this famous statement to depict what a “home” really represents. What is a home? Is it a house with four walls and a roof, the neighborhood of kids while growing up, or a unique Cleaver household where everything is perfect and no problems arise? According to Cisneros, we all have our own home with which we identify; however, we cannot always go back to the environment we once considered our dwelling place. The home, which is characterized by who we are, and determined by how we view ourselves, is what makes every individual unique. A home is a personality, a depiction of who we are inside and how we grow through our life experiences. In her personal, Cisneros depicts Esperanza Cordero’s coming-of-age through a series of vignettes about her family, neighborhood, and personalized dreams. Although the novel does not follow a traditional chronological pattern, a story emerges, nevertheless, of Esperanza’s search to discover the meaning of her life and her personal identity. The novel begins when the Cordero family moves into a new house, the first they have ever owned, on Mango Street in the Latino section of Chicago. Esperanza is disappointed by the “small and red” house “with tight steps in front and bricks crumbling in places” (5). It is not at all the dream-house her parents had always talked about, nor is it the house on a hill that Esperanza vows to one day own for herself. Despite its location in a rough neighborhood and difficult lifestyle, Mango Street is the place with which she identifies at this time in her life.

The story “The Landlady” is creepy because the lady in the story checks out and always compliments the 17 year old boy that is staying at the B&B. In the story the lady and the boy are walking up the stairs, and the lady turned around and checked him out. The lady also seems too nice. The lady always uses sweet words and offers so much. Another thing that makes “The Landlady” creepy is how she has the book of people that have stayed at the B&B, and there is only two people on the list. Hollow eyes glanced around the pristine apartment, the gray scale color scheme seems to match the women clasping her hands together, pursing her lips and searching for approval from the girl that stood in the doorway. Automatically, the girl deduced the woman was quite wealthy, especially in the neighborhood she'd now live in. Not only this but he is more likely an introvert person because he never told his feelings to his friend Fortunato. That's what leads Fortunato to his death. Just like Montresor, the landlady also has an obsession with the son she lost. Instead of accepting the truth that her children died, she decided to find some replacements for her sons. The way she did it is to killed young boys and stuffed them so she cant take care for them and treat them like her real sons.
