Voting is a democratic process that helps to choose the best person for a given job position in general. In the past, the person who was most powerful militarily and physically was held these managerial positions. Also, he or she chose the person for other jobs even if he or she does not have the administrative competence of this position. With the civilizational progress witnessed by societies, popular elections are determining who is entitled to occupy these positions through the votes of the people. The participation of all members of the adult community in deciding who is most suitable for administrative positions in a country is a civilized method that contributes effectively to the development of this society. Therefore, countries that …show more content…
Some people have lack of awareness that voting is very important in order to develop their country. people need to know that their voting may change a lot of things to be best. in the other meaning, People should realize that not voting for the right person will give the opportunity to people who do not have the skill to occupy leadership positions in their community. One of the most important signs of some people's lack of awareness of the importance of participating in the elections is that some people think that their voting will not change who will be win in this voting. When everyone think like that , the result will be very different from what people want. The government should help people to know that each person plays important role in the voting through edification on the importance of voting for a person who deserves through the media and in schools and universities. In addition, people should change the wrong belief which is the voting is useless due to manipulation of results . This misconception among some people that prevents them from participating in the vote also indicates a lack of awareness that the elections are conducted according to the highest standards of credibility, especially in developed countries. Raising awareness and correcting some beliefs about voting will increase the proportion of people participating in
...er to understand why voter turnout is so low. As a society we must take into consideration all of these and find ways to promote higher turnout rates, whether it be through social reform programs to increase citizens socioeconomic status, more education, better political environments at the home and community level, or less restrictions on voting. In order for our society to effectively and efficiently function we must participate in our democratic system at higher percentages than an average participation of roughly 40 percent.
To enforce voting to be mandatory , this will prompt more Americans to pay attention to the choices for their representatives. Mandating would stimulate the demand side, motivating voters to understand and acknowledge who they are voting for. Therefore , voting is to be a responsibility than a option.
In America, political candidates go against one another in a process known as an election in which citizens vote for the next person who "best" fits the position. In addition, there are various amounts of debates on whether a citizen should be compelled to vote. Although some argue if citizens should be required by law to vote, there are exceeding an amount of disadvantages.
I believe that the single most important societal problem currently is voting right restrictions. November is quickly coming upon us, so does the right to cast our votes for whoever we believe to be the best candidate for the oval office. However, new voting right restrictions will make the voting process harder for certain groups. These laws will affect of upwards to millions of potential voters this coming election. We all have the right to vote. The government also has the right for certain groups to make that ballet harder to cast. The reason that voting right restriction is so important is because it stops numerous people from voting, a specific group of people were targeted, and the reason the law was made is wrong.
It is important to vote in the United States. It is important to vote in the United States for many reasons. One reason voting is important because it will either help America or not help. A vote can show how you feel about the two people running for president. One vote could either be for the good or for the bad. You could vote for a certain person who seems like a good president or not, but it’s really up to your view on the person. Another reason voting is important is, your vote really does count. Your vote could change America because whoever you vote for might need that one vote to be president. Also a vote is important because other people are depending on that one vote just to make that person president,
An argument for winner takes all voting is, if you feel really strongly about a certain candidate and what it to win, as long as it get the most votes, all the delegates for that state will go to that candidate which would be good in that person's mind because that will really help the candidate to win the election, especially if it is a big state. An argument against winner takes all voting is that if an election had a popular vote of 49% to 51%, which is a super close election, the one party still gets all the delegates even though the election was super close. An argument in favor of proportional representation is that third parties are able to make more of a difference because they could have part of the proportional vote even though it
If you're wondering who keeps voting for Trump; you should go out in public and try speaking a foreign language, or just have an accent (I could only imagine what black people have to go through) and see for yourself how more than half the people around you completely change. We are so used to it that we don't even care anymore but honestly racism is still amongst us, specially the older folks...... I had some guests who didn't trust me with their credit card and tried to get checked out by a random server just because she was white and I wasn't. They even told my manager I should get fired. And I also get a lot of people who don't tip me just because of where I'm from. We're supposed to let it go and not challenge the negative stereotypes
There are generally two forms of democracy. These consist of direct democracies and representative democracies. Direct democracy involves the direct participation of the people in the government, whereas representative democracy consists of representatives elected by the citizens in order to make decisions on their behalf and for the good of the people. In theory, a representative democracy is a form of government that combines both the hierarchy of government and the voice of the people. Political representatives are elected by the people with the hopes and expectations that their decisions will work towards a common goal of helping the people and nation. The hierarchical aspect of a representative democracy provides competence while the electoral aspect ensures there is a form of democratic guidance. In a representative democracy every individual is guaranteed certain rights, freedom and a level of respect. Laws are put into place and are constantly evolving in order to meet the changing needs and wants of the people. This paper will discuss the effectiveness of a representative democracy to provide a platform through which individuals in a society can be adequately represented at a higher level. This will be achieved by explorin...
1.The first time these women voted because “learn to vote” was written on the table. The time of this photo was taken was shortly after the woman was allowed to vote. This also shows that at the time, there were not many women participating in the voting in the United States. If they have participated in the vote before, they will not learn to vote here.
In contemporary society, people are less aware and inquisitive of the world they live in. Within our nation, people are oblivious to the hardships other nations face and the effects of those hardships on our nation. In response to this, some have argued that voting should be a privilege earned through serving the country for twenty-four months. Although voting is a privilege that should be earned, confining voting to only those who serve would infringe people’s unalienable voting right and would lead to an unfair disadvantage to a proportion of the population.
Cooter goes throw the complex query of why citizens vote. Arguments based on two broad types of reason have explained the issue: material self-interests (which candidate will do more to increase my own wealth and power) and public interest (which candidate will benefit the country more according to my political philosophy). Different scholars have different opinions on which of these reasons prevails but they all conclude that none of them alone can justify the current rates of voter participation (that, contrary to common perception, are unjustifiably high according to economists). In general, the effort required to vote exceeds the expected benefit for a self-interested voter because the power of a single vote in a general election (its ability to affect the outcome) is extremely low and this does not encourage citizens to vote.
All that can really be seen is what appears before ourselves. What we see on billboards, television, or radio show constantly the views of a new runner for politics whom proclaims what he or she wishes to accomplish. Listening to it, one can create a thought of why did they choose that topic for an argument? Today not all people vote so the ones who do are the people these “runners” focus on. Why would they fight to create increased pay to schools if all the voters are the elderly? Why not focus upon retirement benefits or healthcare? As citizens we have complaints on how the government manages our money and yet we do not do anything about it. Voting gives a chance. If certain groups grew in votes different ideas would be made for these “runners”. Say the young adults started to vote a lot more. We could have schooling benefits, less tuition fees, higher education levels, and possibly a large increase in jobs. One United Kingdom publisher explains, “If you vote, the campaigners urge, the politicians will have to listen to you and things will change.”(Kirkup, The Telegraph). Also youth have the longest time, and live what the country becomes. To conclude, voting doesn’t take long and doesn’t require almost any effort. All it requires just an open mind and yet people just do not realize this opportunity. Right now we could be living in the richest most opportunistic country if everyone could understand what can become of our views. Life could be looked forward not
However, they still have the similarities in terms of purpose, democratic principle and authority given by the constitution. According to Roskin, Cord, Medeiras and Jones (1994), the task of government is to provide for the lives, stability, economic and social well-being of all its citizens. Both systems stress on the betterment of the society to ensure the citizens get their rights and to fulfil what society needs. Regarding to these purposes, government, either parliamentary or presidential have established policies, blueprint, and constitution in order to manage the affairs of state. Moreover, parliamentary and presidential practice election system that the person who wants the position in government is compulsory to win majority vote by the citizens. The election must be conducted with justice and cannot be biased. The parties that have competed in the election should be given the same equality to promote their person. Charles (2003) coined that government should be elected based on critical democratic principle and competitive elections to determine who governs. The next similarity is the authority given by the constitution. Both systems have power given by law or constitution to govern the state. In this context, Head of State and Head of Government are compulsory to manage the state and society according to the rules that have been provided in constitution. They cannot break the constitution because their power still in constitution’s
Even though many argument are made against democratic regimes, it is clear that there isn’t any other political system that is able to fulfill the will of its citizens and give power to the many through nation-wide election of representatives, mayors, presidents and so on. Back in ancient Greece, this concept was reserved to eligible men, but as our world evolved, we have been able to spread democracy towards any ethnicity and gender. As new democracies emerge, we must not forget that no system is perfect, and every democracy will have its downsides as well as people who are unhappy, but bare in mind that no other political system aims to serve the needs of its citizens, while at the same time providing a safe and liberal
As an illustration, illiterates usually do not vote during elections. Elections are the most basic foundation of every country’s political system. Illiterates lack the knowledge of the political system and how it works, leaving them not knowing how their contributions will matter. The lack of knowledge can make the person not care about the country, leading them to not vote. Certain studies show that less people are voting during elections, and illiterates are included in the statistics, as they do not have the knowledge of how they can contribute to make the nation better. Similarly, even if they vote, it is not by understanding the political platform or the strategies of the candidates. Even if uneducated people make an effort and vote, they completely do not understand who they are voting for and what the candidate can offer to the nation. Being illiterate will leave the people blind to the ideology, and this will make it difficult for the individuals to understand the ideas and contribution of candidates. By choosing a wrong candidate, they will put the country into more damage than doing any good. Rather than the philosophies of the candidate, it may be a friend forcing the illiterate person to vote or it could be a poster that may see on the roads that may look attractive to them. These factors will lead them to vote, making it unfair to
