In the years 1918, one of the greatest successful leader was born in South Africa. He grew up in a royal family, which bestow him a prosperous quality of African sovereignty and legacy. Throughout his system education, Nelson Mandela acquired knowledge which inspired him to fight against apartheid, a racial segregation. This battle took the major time of his life and he was determinate to end up the racial determination in South Africa. After knowing that he had an arranged marriage, he fled to Johannesburg and started working as a watchman going to the University of Witwatersrand where he studied law. In 1994 Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) to fight against the movement of racial discrimination in his country. In 1924 Mandela married Evelyn Ntoko Mase. In 1948 after the Afrikaner party won the election, Mandela became more involved with politics than before, because of the racial segregation that was not allowing nonwhite from exercising their right. Mandela used the nonviolent method to gain the full citizenship. On December 5, 1956, Mandela was arrested along with some of his members, in 1960s Mandela said to an interview “There are thousands of people who feel that it is useless and futile for us to continue talking peace and non-violence — against a government whose only reply is savage attacks on an unarmed and defenseless people. Throughout King’s life, he showed everyone how he believed equality should be acquired. With his peaceful protests and amazing speeches, he influenced people both during his time and after he passed. Many believe that King’s work in the Civil Rights Movement was the final push that America needed to finally respect people no matter their skin color.

Dr. King had spoken about ending the Vietnam War in particular. This refers to Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God”. He had lived out this Beatitude, because he created peace between the African American People and the White Americans. Martin Luther King wanted to see peace amongst African Americans and White Americans, He wanted all racism to end, and for all people to be equal. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who believed in fighting for the rights of African Americans in the United States. He made many sacrifices for the people he was fighting for and never stopped until he was shot after a protest. MLK changed many people’s lives by standing up in front of thousands of people to share his “Dream” for America. No one can change the impression he made on not just the African Americans, but as well as the whites. He will forever be remembered for the changes he fought for when he never got the chance to actually see the change happen.

Sometimes a death threat on the phone would limit his strength but he encourage his dreams to bring segregation to an end. He had courage and was determined to dedicate his life into bringing equality rights to blacks through peaceful marches. He brought an end to segregation by creating events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, March of Washington which he delivered his famous speech “I have a dream” and the Selma March which led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Mandela was born in the town of Transkei, South Africa into a royal family on July 18,1918 (Klerk). Even though Mandela was born into a royal family, he still noticed the ugly treatment of people in South Africa based on their racial background. Mr. Mandela was educated at the University of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. Both of these universities are located in South Africa, though Fort Ware is in Eastern Cape while Witwatersrand is located in the capital (Klerk, F). While a student in college Mandela was sent home for protesting against the strict policies of the university with several other classmates.
Throughout his lifetime, Mandela had numerous arrests, including being “arrested in a countrywide police swoop on 5 December 1955”, being “charged with leaving the country without a permit and inciting workers to strike”, and being “charged under the Suppression of Communism Act for their part in the campaign and sentenced to nine months of hard labour, suspended for two years” (Nelson Mandela Foundation). All of the arrests were the result of him speaking out against discrimination and fighting for equal rights. While in court for one of his arrests, Mandela stated, “I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities” (Nelson Mandela Foundation). Rather than fighting only for civil rights, like most African American abolitionists, Mandela fought for the equality of all races, including Caucasian people. Similar to Harriet Tubman, Nelson Mandela had to put his cause before his family. In Mandela’s autobiography, he states “I did not in the beginning choose to place my people above my family, but in attempting to serve my people, I found that I was prevented from serving my obligations as a son, a brother, a father, and a husband” (StudySync). Nelson Mandela was so dedicated to fight for equal rights that he put his family second and wasn’t there for his family. One would think that going to jail as many times as Mandela

Through Nelson Mandela’s constant fight for freedom of the African people from white apartheid forces, he was dominated by the corrupt government. After uprising numerous riots against apartheid forces, Mandela was sent to jail for twenty-seven years revealing the cruelty that humans can possess. With the strong will power and complete support of the African people, Mandela survived his prison sentence and became the first democratically elected president of South Africa exposing the strength in human nature by showing that humans can persevere through tough times. Mandela left a profound impact on the African people by saving them from corrupt Apartheid rule and bringing a democratic government. Thus teaching the world that in an event where a body of people is suppressed, they will inevitably rebel by any means necessary to gain their freedom.

Nelson Mandela in his book, Long Walk to Freedom argues through the first five parts that a black individual must deal, coop, and grow through a society that is hindering their lives' with apartheid and suppression of their rightful land. Rolihlanla Mphakanyiswa or clan name, Madiba was born on July 18, 1918 in a simple village of Mvezo, which was not accustomed to the happenings of South Africa as a whole. His father was an respected man who led a good life, but lost it because of a dispute with the magistrate. While, his mother was a hard-working woman full of daily choirs. His childhood was full of playing games with fellow children and having fun. In school, Mandela was given his English name of Nelson. After his father's death, he moved to love with a regent, who was a well-off individual and owed Nelson's father for a previous favor. The next several years were full of schooling for Nelson. These schools opened Nelson's eyes to many things, which we will discuss later. He and the regent's son, Justice decided to travel to Johannesburg and see what work they could find. They left on their journey without the regent's permission, but eventually escaped his power and settled down in the town. In Johannesburg, Nelson settled down in a law firm as an assistant and went to University of South Africa and Witwatersrand University to further his law education.
