I will take the first step of joining the medical field by obtaining a physical therapist associates degree. I will become a Physical Therapist Assistant.
It takes a unique individual to want to become a Physical Therapist. These professionals have a lot of personal traits that are a must need to excel in the Physical Therapy field. A Physical therapist could be faced with a patient/client that might be angry, sad, or confused, so being able to relate to these individuals is a great quality all therapist must have. These personal traits are skills like being relaxed and determined, supportive, and of course knowledgeable.
The occupation that I would like to research is Physical Therapy. I personally chose Physical Therapy because I have experienced it myself and I believe I would enjoy doing this for the rest of my life. Physical Therapy is in Health Sciences cluster. In the Health Sciences field Physical Therapy falls under Therapeutic Services and Health Informatics. When I did my Nebraska Career Connections interests test I scored the highest in Therapeutic Services. I then filled out a skills inventory and it ranked number four on that assessment. Considering I scored highly in both occupations means that this occupation is good for me as of right now.

Having an education will develop social interactions, help students become more creative, it aids us to contribute to the economy and prepare us for of career. A physical therapist must be able to handle the school work that is given to them. When applying to a DPT program your minimum prerequisite GPA must be 3.0, which I exceed. You must also take the GRE and have at least average score of one-hundred fifty. This will also look very good when applying to a DPT program. Then you must have observation hours. Some school may accept fifty hours, and other may take one-hundred and more. So far I have been able to complete over sixty hours of observation. I have been able to Prepare the treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols. I also help treat patients by applying heat packs, assisting patients into a whirlpool, monitoring their motion, measuring mobility, performing prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques as an example. All of these assets I learned from my observation gives me an advantage on to become a successful physical therapist. In addition, to become a successful physical therapist you must have the proper resume as well. Although there are fun games and new technology that physical therapists can do with patients, the main struggle for physical therapists is to motivate their patients to complete their therapy exercises both in the clinic and in the outside world. This problem is very frustrating because the doctors who work at the clinic constantly push patients to complete their therapy so that they can heal; however, when patients are stubborn and reluctant to their treatment, yet constantly complain of pain, doctors must spend more time convincing them to do the therapy rather than completing the therapy itself.

Since I now have researched all of the important facts about what it takes to become a physical therapist, the pro’s and con’s, information about current trends like the new health care laws, and learned about where the field is at today, I can now make a more informed decision about this career choice. At this time in my life I’m not prepared to take on the requirements that are needed to get into the DPT program. I am still interested in the field and since I can get a bachelors degree in any field to start the requirements for the program I may still consider this occupation as a career choice and pursue this more in the future. I do enjoy helping people and working hands and have always been interested in the health care field so this will be a great option that I’m now more informed about. 13
