Essay A: What matters most to you, and why? What matters most to me is to be able to look back at any point in time throughout my life and feel proud and satisfied of my actions. I try to maintain a long-term view when making important decisions, which often requires hard work and sacrifices in the present in order to ensure long term benefits. Also, through my actions I try to deliver, whenever possible, a positive impact for the people around me. My ultimate career ambition is to establish and manage a small Venture Capital (VC) firm based in Barcelona that focuses on investing in start-ups that utilize technological innovation, encourages early stage ventures to expand in Southern Europe, and inspires young college graduates to become entrepreneurs. Being part of creating a new enterprise at Ilab, a marketing start-up in Spain, strongly influenced my career goals as I realized my passion in turning innovative ideas into real businesses. During my 2 years at McKinsey, I enjoyed helping companies overcome their challenges, and I realized that a future role in VC would combine two important attributes that would make for a fulfilling career: working with high growth potential companies and continually solving complex problems. Therefore, last month I joined Santander Innoventures, a $100m VC fund based in London, where I am obtaining in-depth knowledge by analyzing FinTech start-ups, networking with entrepreneurs and performing due diligences and deal structuring models for our target ventures.
