What do people seek in life? Happiness! Everyone is looking to be happy in life. But how does one obtain happiness in business? It is a journey some people seek their whole life. Business is not just a place to go work, but it’s a place to enjoy and put one’s talents to good use. Morrison uses the insights and of Aristotle to bring light in philosophical teachings on business. In the book, If Aristotle ran General Motors, it stated there are four dimensions of human excellence that help one obtain happiness and it is truth, beauty, goodness, and unity (Morris, 1998). Human beings love and appreciate beauty. Author, Morris revealed that a business workplace with beauty allows for happier employees (1998). When a business has happy employees they are more cheerful and assist in producing a good business. Beauty has a way of transmitting inspiration (Morris, 1998). For example, a friend worked at a bakery and the morale and production started to slow down. So the owner decided to inspire her employees by painting the walls and beautifying the business environment. This beautiful scenic atmosphere helped increase the employee’s morale and their production. Beauty has a way of helping a business. It brought up sales and helped the company make more money. Employees were happier and they reflected their cheerfulness to the customers and gave great customer service. Even the customers are able to reap the benefit of having a beautiful atmosphere. As a customer, one enjoys going to a business of beauty. Beauty is attractive and is a magnetic to help create a good business. Additionally, the beauty of business lies within the structure and gives life art (Morris, 1998). Beauty in the workplace helps guide the direction of the business. When everyone is a part of the beauty then they begin to take ownership and pursue good business. Humans, throughout recorded history, have searched for a proper way of living which would lead them to ultimate happiness; the Nicomachean Ethics, a compilation of lecture notes on the subject written by Greek philosopher Aristotle, is one of the most celebrated philosophical works dedicated to this study of the way. As he describes it, happiness can only be achieved by acting in conformity with virtues, virtues being established by a particular culture’s ideal person operating at their top capacity. In our current society the duplicity of standards in relation to virtue makes it difficult for anyone to attain. To discover true happiness, man must first discover himself.
In the book, If Aristotle Ran General Motors, Tom Morris argues that the teachings of the ancients can and should be applied to today's corporation. His message is that the four virtues - truth, beauty, goodness, and unity - form the foundation of human excellence. Putting them into practice leads not only to self-fulfillment, but ultimately to an open, nurturing, and ethical workplace that is more productive and successful in the long-term. After meeting Menner during a presentation at Castleton State College, I realized he reminded me of myself. His inspiring story encouraged me to believe I can and will achieve my goals because of the determination and drive he has shown me I possess. When discussing the mission, Welch states that in order to create an effective mission statement, one must explain how they intend to win in that particular business. The key is profitability, “Delineate their strengths and weaknesses in order to assess when they can profitably play in the competitive landscape,” (Welch, 15). He is a professor and CEO of family owned corporation, Anielski Management Inc. (AMI). He specializes in well-being measurement and was recognized by Adbusters as a “rising star” amongst international progressive economists. While others don’t really have specific criteria or an organized plan, they just believe that happiness comes with living each day as if it was the last, with no worries about the rest. Personally, I find it in trying to be the best version of myself, in staying true to my principles, and in the same time in being able to make my own decisions; which reminds me of what George Loewenstein said “Just because we figure out that X makes people happy and they're choosing Y, we don't want to impose X on them.”

The above analysis definitely reveals that perhaps one of the reasons why these companies are the leaders in their industry is because they are well aware of the importance of the work force. They mention in their mission statements as well that yes in deed customers are important but in order to make the customer happy they first need to motivate and satisfy the employee as well. According to Citibank, the general belief is that a happy worker is a motivated and loyal one. So keeping employees' spirits high is a sure-fire way of maintaining a productive workforce. A productive work force would ultimately lead to a healthy organization which would not only promote the society its working for but also itself.
Happiness is a state of mind. The dictionary definition is "feelings of joy and pleasure mingled together”. A feeling of happiness is more than just an experience of joy or pleasure. It is a state of mind where the individual feels that “life is good”. As Aristotle says, “happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” I believe that everyone wants to be happy in life. One is abnormal if he prefers to be sad and alone.
