1 — The Definition of Fear The word fear makes my mind draw a blank. I am trying to make sense of it but I can not, at least not for everyone. It is a word that is left up to a person’s digression. It almost seems unfair to have a clear cookie-cutter definition of what it is. The word is too broad to be sectioned off by one definition. Fear can strengthen a person to move mountains, but can also weaken someone to the point of death. Which might be why the word is so frightening. What can be said for the word fear? Can we begin by saying: Fear is the emotion caused by the belief that something is dangerous. My fear is caused by the my belief that something is dangerous I know my fear because of my belief that something is dangerous. Is everything …show more content…
I could never understand why he wished to hurt me. My older sister told me stories that say he just did it for his pleasure, or because I invaded his territory. Both my mother and father insisted that nothing was there and that he did not exist, but their rationality did not matter to my five year old self. At that age I could only explain the creaks and bumps I heard in the middle of the night as him. I would stay up for hours tucked into my Toy Story covers, shivering in fear. In fear of the monster beneath my bed would come and take me away from my family. That is what usually makes people fear something isn 't it? The thought of something taking you away from the only people you know and love. The thought that I might not ever see my parents again if he stole me from my bed. Eventually I grew up a found out that my parents were right and I had no reason to fear a monster beneath my bed, but the fear of being taken away stays with me and is ultimately going to be my last fear. 3 - The Motivation of …show more content…
All of my classes in high school I passed with no struggle. I would cram all the knowledge that I needed for a test the night before, so I thought college would not be any different. A week or two before my first ever college exam the professor announced that if we had not already been study, then we should start to right away. Being a young naive freshmen, I kind of blew the teacher off. Telling myself that I did not need to waste the next few weeks studying for one exam. So I waited until the last day to study. You might have an idea of what happened next. I failed the exam. Failing so bad that it would be nearly impossible for me to still get a C in the course. I could not even look at myself. The thought of disappointing my parents was making my stomach turn. This fear of failing the class was tearing me apart. The only chance at passing this class was if I turned myself into the perfect student. This meant turning things in on time, studying days in advance for exams, and going to my professor’s office hours. And that is exactly what I did. By some seriously hard work, long nights, and over a hundred red bulls, I was able to achieve a passing grade with a
Fear is a powerful emotion. Wikipedia.com describes fear as “an emotion induced by threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately change behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events.”Most people tend to avoid fearful situations, not realizing that something positive may come out of the event or experience. Victor also tells his readers how he turned his fear into motivation into motivation to keep going and reach his ultimate goal of becoming a published author.
Have you ever had something ever get to you or make you you scared? That is called fear and tons an tons of people have different fears. Fear is an emotion that makes you feel afraid or something is frighten. Some fears many include spiders, clowns and even death. ‘’Fear Prompts Teens To Act Impulsively’’ by Laura Sanders, ‘’Stress for Success’’ by Alison Pearce, and ‘’And Uncomfortable Bed’’ By Guy Maupassant all explain the idea of fear.
One of the most complex emotions in existence, fear is the primary emotion that triggers any kind of change, as it is capable of linking with any existing emotion to create entirely different lives upon lives. For any change that happens, fear is always present to turn the tide whichever way it pleases.
There are lots of kinds of threats. Some of us are afraid of different sorts of animals, some are afraid of height, some are afraid of closed vessel, etc. However, the most usual fear is a fear of death. Also this piece of literature is about such a fear and what it can do to human.
natural that, as humans, we fear what we do not entirely understand simply because we know what will
"A variety of terms are used to describe fear. The Bible uses words like fear, afraid, terror, dread, anxious, tremble, shake, and quake over 850 times to portray this core human emotion. Healthcare professionals use terms like fear, anxiety, panic attack, and phobia to illuminate the spectrum of our fears." (2)
There’s a monster under your bed, and there are ghosts in the attic. The Bogey man is in your closet and ravens await your death so they can pick from your rotting flesh. Flowers are ready to strangle you, as pickles prepare to choke you in the night. It’s almost funny to hear of people who actually fear flowers and pickles. But these people have real legit fears of even the nicest of things. Although these fears are horrible, and should not be feared; I think the more we know about them, the more we can be prepared. There must be a deeper meaning of these weird phobias. Is it nature? Or inherited traits of the human body? Maybe they come from past experiences? Even as these fears are quite interesting, but unwanted, I want to know why people acquire these ridiculous fears and how we could stop them.
Living in fear of dying isn’t living, its waiting. At any moment, someone can accuse you for being a witch and doing the devils work and there’s nothing you can say or do about it besides accept it and live unhappily or deny it and die. Fear was everywhere. People feared the devil, they feared each other, they feared the courts, and the lifestyle that they had always lived. Death was always nearby, and people lost their faith. People dared not challenge the courts and risk facing the wrath of an angry judge. Nothing has changed in the 300 years that have past. Today, whether we admit it or not, we all fear something. Of course there are tangible fears such as spiders or heights, but we all share the fear of the unknown. We fear death because we do not know what comes of our consciousness. We fear wars because they cause death. We fear communism because we know capitalism, and change is feared. We fear others regardless of the amount of trust we place in them because we can never truly see into their minds and be certain that they will never turn on us for whatever fiendish
College is hard, scary, and stressful especially with children involved. I think it is a good thing I went to college when I did otherwise, I would be stuck in the same minimum wage job that I have had for the past year. It is going to be hard and stressful but the truth is that were all scared. It is just a matter of pushing myself into getting where I want to be. My main fear with college is mainly flunking out, it is scary but, it is also achievable. I thought to myself, “Hey, if my best friend can go to college then why I can I not”. There was three things that pushed me into going to college. Those are: getting a better job so I can spoil my children, continuing my education, and to be a role model for my children.
Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders. Gephyrophobia is the fear of crossing bridges. Acrophobia is the fear of heights. The only reason these are feared is because the less that is known, the more dangerous it is. Remaining ignorant of a source of fear is the only way fear can exist, so being more knowledgeable would help to conquer those fears.
Fear is a human emotion everyone dislikes. Fear is in every person with no exception. It can be difficult problem to solve. We can overcome our fears by challenging ourselves by analyzing fear and developing a growth mindset.
Fear is defined as some form of distressing emotion that is caused by an impending evil, pain, danger etc., whether the danger is imagined or real; the condition or feeling of being afraid. Everyone has fear, and then people told stories to explain our fear. Take “Bloody Mary” as an example. “Bloody Mary” is a game that people need to stand in front of a mirror with a candle in hands, and whisper “Bloody Mary” three times. After bloody Mary appears in the mirror, if she is happy she will tell people anything that they want
What was the sound beyond the hallway, or that figure on the corner of your eye? That certain sensation of your heart beat getting louder and your palms sweating, the chill called fear. Fear is a defense system to warn humans we could be in danger, but what if fear goes too far? People with phobias feel a cold sweat drop from their faces, their pupils dilated, shaking at the sight of stop-lights or does not have the heart to cross rivers, it is most likely a phobia. It is an irrational fear that takes over someone's mind and prevents them to surmount obstacles in their life. They can range from something as scary as spiders to something as strange as paper-towel rolls. Like Lea Winerman, a writer for American Psychology Association, states, “ All phobias are anxiety disorders, lumped in the same class as post-traumatic stress disorder and panic disorder, among others. And anxiety disorders are, fundamentally, based on fear.” Phobias prevents people from functioning normally and have a healthy life by taking hold of their lives and daily schedules. The effects of having a phobia results in inconveniences in your life, stress, and medical problems in your future.
