While taking psychology this past few months I have realized why I am who I am. I finally learned why I bite my finger nails and chew on things that probably are not good for my teeth. I also learned why I can take things that people might tell them and better myself, but others may cry. When I was younger I had a hard time regulating my emotions which lead to me externalizing my problem. This lead to me always playing rough. Most girls do not play this way, but this actually helped release my anger in a positive way. I also developed a resilience to stress, during times I find myself stressed out. I am finally why I am who I am because of the parenting style my parents used when I was younger. Most people wonder why they are who they are and …show more content…
It could also be a parent at home criticizing you about a grade to do better in school. When a coach would say something to me that would sting, it would motivate me to do better. I would notice when the coach would say the same thing to a team mate they would get upset and cry. I never understood why they would not just better themselves, instead of pouting over a simple criticism. This is because of differential sensitivity. Differential sensitivity is “the idea that some people are more vulnerable than others to particular experiences” (Berger, 2010, p.21). I was able to take this criticism from the coach because I was used to having someone at home, criticizing my weaknesses, so that I could better myself. When someone criticizes me, I do not take it to heart because I work harder on that subject to show them that I can do better. The other team mate was more sensitive in the situation and took it to heart. This may have been because the team mate was going through a sensitivity period. Some small comments to children can still affect them later in life, but some may forget about it an hour later. Differential sensitivity is used to, “aid prediction and thus target intervention” (Berger, 2010,

In Junior and Senior year I was put into a alternative education class so it would be easier for me to speak and I wouldn 't have anxiety. That decision was the best decision. There were 8 kids in the class instead of 35. It got easier and easier for me to speak. I can now voice my own opinion but still be afraid. I don’t really care if people are quirky and I have my flaws. People who truly care about me will look past them. I now help people who are struggling with the same things I went through, because I know what is was like and I don’t want them to go throw the pain and suffering I went through. I try to help others overcome fear of judgment like I had to
I sense that there is an importance to learn the various aspects of our minds and how it works to navigate through our information rich environment and to embrace the similarities and differences that we have. I personally hope that psychology will help me understand my place in this world and how, with the knowledge I have acquired to the study of psychology, help make the world an easier place to live in. There has been too many a time where we humans have made uneducated decisions that affected the lives of other people and regret to tell the tale. I wish that each and every individual will have the chance to learn psychology to further understand our thoughts and behavior because, with psychology, we have a greater chance to mold a better future for the next
It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment I knew I wanted to become a psychologist because as previously stated, the journey is complex and dates back to my childhood. When I was four years old, my parents adopted my 14 year old cousin after both her parents passed away. Her father died of AIDS while in
The practice of researching human behavior, which dates back to most ancient civilizations, has become better understood and more effective over time. This research led to modern psychology and has become increasingly broad since the first notion that one person could observe and measure the reasoning behind another person’s actions. Researchers in the field can study psychology as a whole or one of the various sub-disciplines that psychology breaks down into. These sub-disciplines range from the psychology of learning to fringe theoretical psychology. The men and women who conduct studies in the psychological field, referred to as psychologists, continue research in their sub-disciplines to add to the knowledge of the community. Psychologists focus on the study of the mind while clinicians treat individuals that suffer from psychological disorders. Now that I have covered psychology’s growth, I will move on to the ways that psychology currently impacts the world.
I observe people around me and try to as well understand their actions and why they react the way they do in certain situations. The more I realized that I like to help people with their problems, the more I realized that I was in the right field to help people understand their own life better. I don’t always have the answers but, I do what it takes to understand a situation more so that I am able to get the answers. I believe that my purpose is to help people understand their life a little better and speak great over their lives. I would mostly like to help children out so that I am able to help them understand their feelings. Children are usually more vulnerable than anyone else in the world. Becoming a practitioner scholar in this field means learning about different mental illness so that I am better prepared when I encounter different patients. I took and abnormal psychology class where we briefly went over each mental disorder but I would like to be able to go more in depth. During my time in this class we did several case studies, where I learned to diagnose different clients and give possible treatments. I would like to go beyond this method and learn more as I get more into clinical psychology. Also I would like to indulge more in

My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. I am excited to continue my education in the counseling field and become a future Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
During my transition from childhood to adulthood, I have learned and accomplish many things within my education, community, and family. My transition from childhood to adulthood education made me come into reality that everything can’t be done for you and that you have to stay more focused and organized if you want to be somewhere five to ten years from now. My growth in the things that I do in my community such as church and basketball summer leagues made me realize that it is all right to participate and help out for the positive things in my community. In my family, my transition from childhood to adulthood help me to become a more mature and knowledgeable person.
...ork I now am more motivated to strive ahead and move forward and I better understand why it is that I do it everyday. I understand our need for self improvement and I know now that I tend to agree more with the expectancy theory of motivation. As a leader of junior personnel I have learned that people are motivated in different ways. I can now figure out what their motivation is and provide them with a means to an end so that they will know what it is they are working for. This will cause them to work harder or more efficiently to achieve their own personal goals. So whether I am at home with my family or I am out at a ballgame it seems there will always be something I am doing or thinking that involves psychology. Psychology was a much bigger part of my life than I ever realized. It is involved in how I think, learn, behave, and interact with everything around me.
For instance, i had bad habits, like not sleeping enough or planning terribly my studying for an exam and also high anxiety. Especially nowdays, stress is apparent in our everyday lives. It can come down hard on us sometimes, or not so bad. Psychology explains us why stress happens or how to handle it. When it comes to me, cannot say i am not stressed anymore since i started studying psychology. But i can say that i am now familiar with what it really is and know how to handle it, for example with breathing exercises. I have understood why too much stress can harm, the different types of stress, and i can say for sure that before i got to have a taste of this study it was a lot harder to understand these
My motivation is based on two things. Firstly, I really want to help other people as much as I can. The understanding of human behaviour is the key for me to help others improve their well-being. This made me start seeking for information and experiences beyond the university’s classes and books. There was 30 hours of supervised Clinical Child Psychology Practice, where I was shadowing a professional psychologist at an Educational Consultancy. I really liked my time there and I felt like I could not have chosen any other career. In 2014 I joined a foundation where we were developing autistic children’s social skills and perceptions with movements and exercises. In these months I saw different children with different disabilities. It was
It has been my lifelong dream to have a profound academic achievement. My personal goal is to become a Licensed Psychologist. Just recently I graduated from my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. This first step in my educational pursuit gave me the confidence that I can still fulfill my dream of becoming a psychologist. There are a few turns and road blocks in my educational trek; however, I never lose sight of my goal. I now, more than ever, intensified my passion for reaching my goal.
Recently when I get extremely overwhelmed or stressed I can relate what we learned in class to my experience and in a way it helps me get a better picture of what I’m dealing with and how I should approach the problem. It probably sounds silly and fake but this class has really helped me deal with difficult situations in a more effective way. Not only can I relate to the topic of stress personally but I can also relate to almost every topic we have gone over. I’ve learned a lot more from this class than I expected since the beginning of the semester and the material I’ve learned will definitely stay relevant to me even after I graduate. I am no longer a psychology minor, and I’m not sure what other psychology classes could have offered me but I am glad I choose this class and that at least one class I took as an undergraduate is actually going to be relevant to me outside of the
Positive psychology can definitely help change ones perspective on many situations and teach them how to make the best out of negative circumstances in their life. Having a positive outlook on life is great for someone’s wellbeing because it helps reduce stress and it can also improve your health. Before taking this course, it was somewhat difficult for me to see the positive in many problems that I faced. Now that I have completed this course, I can now look back at situations in my life and manage them more appropriately.
