Coaching is a way of developing your athlete’s skills, abilities, and improving there
performance. I feel that coaching is a profession that comes with dealing with different types
of issues before they become major problems. Coaching is a conservation among people in an
organization that finds solutions that problems that may exist. During the time of coaching
athletes, it can be considered as a corrective tool when you are focusing on the growth of
the student-athlete in their particular sport. I feel that coaching is a positive approach for
supporting athletes exploring their goals and ambitions, then they accomplish them. As

The transformational leadership
focuses on the current and long term, emphasizes leadership growth, role-centered, works with
the person in a system and context, offers a framework for thinking about leadership, depth
systems psychodynamic perspective, growth happens through thinking and application, works
with what is on the surface and beneath. The approach of the transactional coach is that they
counsel the individual athlete, accountability of the partner, the coach puts an emphasis on
their coaching skills, highly interactive and possibly directive, coaching seen as a series of
sessions, the coaching sessions are structured, homework is important and the short term. The
transformational coaches approach consults to the leader’s experience, thinking as a partner,
the coach puts emphasis on the knowledge of people, leadership theories and practice among
organizations and groups, the coaching sessions become free flowing, the insight and

I have learned as a former athlete
and current coach that playing sports builds social skills and feeling valued of the team because
it also gives you a sense of accomplishment. I feel that athletics prepares student-athletes for
life, it develops the athlete to work as a team and become being a team player. I feel
that it can bring out the confidence in person. With my years of coaching, it has shown me
passion for working with student-athletes in my program. I have had the opportunity to see
growth in all of my athletes that I coached in the past and present with the numerous of
opportunities that I was able to provide for them. I focus with the athletes on communication

Coaching is an integral part of helping achieve one’s maximum abilities. Dr. Gawande (2013) explains that, “Coaches are not teachers, but they teach. They’re not your boss—in professional tennis, golf, and skating, the athlete hires and fires the coach—but they can be bossy” (p. 3). It is difficult to say what is the exact function of a coach, however, they help bring forth another point of view different from our own and they also help bring about the right mindset in order to subdue a weakness.

The seminars would include such topics as how to maintain control of one’s temper, how to involved a coach should be in a player’s life and where the boundaries are, and also how to use positive reinforcements rather than negative. The coaches would need to go through this training before every new season of their respective sport to stay current on the techniques, as well as be reminded of the importance of being aware of how problems can arise if bullying may occur. Another important aspect of this program would be the evaluation done on the coach’s performance as a coach by the players. Coaching is not an easy task and figuring out the best way to lead and guide employees can be overwhelming and challenging. Alex is now in a position where she has to be a motivator, leader, and a coach to several employees. She needs to understand the concept of coaching and the behaviors that go along with her coaching style. The concept of coaching helps develop and grow employees to achieve performance improvement, but it also helps the managers see how the employees embrace their job tasks and asses their results in comparison to the overall mission of the company (Bawany, 2015). Therefore, Alex needs to look back at her previous managers and determine what qualities and behaviors they possessed in order to improve her performance. Also, she must look at what personality traits James has and look at his previous managers to see which manager coached James to perform the best while working for the company.
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching. Some questions would include: Why did he choose this as a profession? How did he get into coaching? What does one have to do to get a job as a coach? How does a coach become successful? I aim to answer all of these questions and more in my paper.

In today’s society being a coach can be extremely complicated especially compared to earlier years. Coaching requires not only many technical and personal skills but also has to include positive psychology that will affect all athletes regardless of gender, age, and race. After reading various articles this leads me to the question, what is a coach? How do coaches differ from one another? In addition are we forgetting the importance of not only coaching but the sports psychology aspect of coaching overall? Sports are an important aspect of society. They help people to strive to reach certain goals and join people together, but they also can divide people and turn a fun game into the main purpose of someone’s life. Taking sports games too seriously can be harmful to both the athlete and the spectator. The attitude of always winning at any cost in sports has managed to distract us from other important parts of our lives, such as health and education. This importance of the value of sports can heavily influence the way that we see ourselves as both the spectator and the athlete by creating a positive self image and distilling confidence and discipline within the player, or by embedding self doubt and inversion.

I wanted to start telling the story of our experience by sharing the feelings I brought into this exercise. A few years ago I underwent an experience of coaching through several sessions that left me this taste in the mouth that the coaching as a tool to develop others is not very effective. I have not taken the time to deeply analyze what went wrong but in general if I had to choose to do it again I think I would choose another methodology to foster change. Its objective in general is to assist in building behavioral skills, but in my opinion to really look for a long lasting change you need to give a deeper understanding to the lack of a certain skills, strongly reflect on the variables linked to it as could be the emotions, values and motivations that conduce you towards a behavior different that that one desired. Personally, I enjoy seeking information that allows me to jump beyond the facts, and staying on the behavioral side of the reality limits my passion for inspiration and insight.
Basically, the coaching process is driven by feedback. The content and aims of the process are based on the advantages and potential of the participants, also according to their space for development.
Motivate the motivation, simple words that can mean some much to an athlete, but what is motivation really? In the games and sports, psychological and physiological factors play an important role in determining the performance level (Grange & Kerr, 2010; Schilling & Hyashi, 2001).
