What words come to mind when you think of someone that has character? There are many different ways to describe someone who has good character and some of the qualifications are integrity, loyalty, and faith. Would you consider yourself a person of good character?
When you think of a person with good character, you might think of someone with integrity. Integrity means that you have a set of certain values that you live by day to day. Also it can mean that when you see something that is wrong, no matter the consequences to yourself, you feel it is your duty to bring it to someone's attention. For example, a student was helping a professor grade some homework and noticed that a couple of students had turned in a few identical assignments. She faced the dilemma of whether to bring it to the professor's attention or not, but didn't want them to find out and brand her a "tattletale" for the rest of her college career. Since she is only a freshman, graduation is still a few years away. Being that she is a person of integrity, she went and told the professor anyway. Afterwards, she felt as if a burden had been taken off of her shoulders and didn't have to worry about the other students finding out because it was anonymous. Having the guts to tell someone when someone has done something wrong, especially a friend, can be a very difficult decision, but a good one.
Another trait of someone with character is faith. Faith is when you believe in someone or something so much that you would put even your life in danger to prove what you believe in. Take the story of David and Goliath for example. David had faith that God would take care of him while he battled Goliath. Without his faith in God David, more than likely, wouldn't have lived through the battle. Another example of faith is a story of one of the victims from the Columbine shooting. A girl, who had a strong faith in Christ, was held at gun point and asked repeatedly to deny Him or be shot. With a gun pointed to her head she still stood by her faith that God would take care of her and believed she would see Him soon. It takes having strong character to be able to put your life on the line like she and David did.
Finally, I believe a character must be responsible. Responsibility comes with experience, and is something a person has, or they do not have. I am responsible by maintaining a grade point average greater than three point eight five while participating actively in numerous extra curricular activities and working more than a twenty-five hour workweek. With great power, comes responsibility in which I will always have.
What words best describe your character? Give specific examples of why each word is applicable.
“Courage - a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental willingness to endure it.” Courageous people understand the danger that they face when they act how they do. That is what courage is all about. Many historical events occur due to people having the courage to do what they think is right, or because of those who use their courage to do what they want. Having the courage to stand alone in one’s beliefs may be one of the hardest thing a person can do.
Writing a story is pretty difficult. Writing a short story is even harder, there is so much that has to be accomplished; in both commercial and literary fiction! The plot, the structure, whether it has a happy, unhappy, or indeterminate ending. There must be artistic unity, chance, coincidence, rising action, climax, falling action. Most importantly there must be characterization. Characters make the story! “anyone can summarize what a person in a story has done, but a writer needs considerable skill and insight into human beings to describe convincingly who a person is” [page 168]
I show great strength of character through my dedication to my own principles. I try to live my life honestly, showing integrity, remain open minded, stay positive, and respectful. Everyday I attempt to live by these values in the way I think and the way I act. These values remind of the kind of person I want to be and help me to lead a more centered life. Whether this is through something as simple as holding a door for someone or by always being honest, trustworthy, loyal. Thus, through my personal principles and values I show great strength of
In the saying of “Character is what you are in the dark” by Dwight Lyman Moody, can meaning many different things. One being, “you are most yourself when no one is watching”, another one also being, “dark and troubled times bring out a person's true nature”, and “your true nature is on the inside”. This quote can or cannot apply to the play of “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare.
Doaker- A forty seven year old, tall, patient man that has a lot of respect for others. Even though he caves into people he is still a respectable figure.
(#4) The British naturalist and politician John Lubbock wrote, “Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it.” Do we choose our own character traits, or is our character formed by influences beyond our control? In other words, Character is the qualities that vary in individuals.Childrens character is the most concerned these days. Adults believe that character in a child is usually developed depending of how the child was raised during childhood however, rising 9th graders, believe that they can self mold themselves a character through finding friends and making mistakes in high school. What many people fail to realize is that it all varies on the child.
A tragic character is someone who experiences misfortune in courtesy of poor judgment, fate or a conflicted personality. In the tragedy, Antigone, there is a heavy debate over whether Antigone or Creon is the tragic character. Creon can be classified as the tragic character of the play because he has been affected the most due to his decision of sentencing Antigone to death. For instance, a fight emerges between the king and his son, Haimon, as a result of his harsh punishment. Also, he lets his pride get in the way which triggers the suicide of Haimon and his wife, Eurydice. By the end of the tragedy, Creon is forced to live through the painful death of his family, thus being the tragic character because he suffered the most.
Integrity to me is another characteristic trait that most heroes should have because to me that characteristic trait is one of the traits that makes a hero. Integrity means to have adherence to other people’s morals and your own moral value of things. To be a hero you
What is having good professional character? In order to answer that question, one must first understand what professional character is. The Texas Board of Nursing, defines professional character as, “the integrated pattern of personal, academic and occupational behaviors which, in the judgment of the Board, indicates that an individual is able to consistently conform his or her conduct to the requirements of the Nursing Practice Act, the Board's rules and regulations, and generally accepted standards of nursing practice including, but not limited to, behaviors indicating honesty, accountability, trustworthiness, reliability, and integrity” (Nursing, Texas Board of, 2013). What does this mean? The Board of Nursing, is referring to the temperament of the nurse, their behavior. How does this integrate into the many facets of our lives? Whether one is referring to an academic, personal, or professional setting a person’s character should remain constant. There is no difference between these settings, some challenges may be different, but the person’s chara...
One thing I find significant is factory farming. I felt that factory farming is wrong and should be stopped immediately. I strongly feel that since we take their lives for our food, we should at least respect them. I’m somewhat both audacious and obstinate, but I like to refer myself as a calm person. I believe initiative and strength is my strongest characters. Since I always try to finish my task that was given and try to think
Character is the sum of what makes the attributes of a leader. It is who you are; how you act and the choices you will decide to make in life. This will determine the direction that you head in life.. Although integrity is part of character it is considered part of the foundation. For this paper I have decided to cover integrity and do some examination of how it affects Character.
Character education involves teaching students social values and good morals as part of the curriculum and is embedded within the delivery of instruction and performance tasks. Out of all the topics that we have discussed throughout this course, character education appears to me to be a critical aspect of teaching. To be able to help guide students along in the process of making choices such as taking turns, showing tolerance for different ideas, and being gracious, are behaviors not only good for the individual but for society. Teachers design their work in a manner that provides opportunity to mentor students as they strive to be a positive role model knowing that to children, actions speak louder than words.
Integrity is, in my opinion the important characteristics because it’s a core quality of a great life, building a big “character” to ensure that someone knows right from wrong. My mom said to me “Without integrity you’re just a living failure”. Throughout my whole life I have used integrity in some way, shape, or form. Like playing sports, I have always been the leader of every team I played for if it was in basketball, baseball, and football. In sports having integrity is very
