The disaster I’ve chosen would be 9/11 and it was a man-made disaster. The two media sources that I have chosen is the History Channel and the Encyclopedia. The disaster took place in New York City at the Twin Tower. On September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday that’s when the disaster started. What happened at the 9/11 was a jet fuel crashed into the North Tower of the world trade in New York City. The people who was there were citizens who work in the Twin Tower, firefighters were there to help, and people who was walking around the Twin Tower. This man-made disaster happened because we were attacked and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed planned to have “America’s Darkest Day” The two media sources I have chosen are alike because both of the
There were several conspiracies about the planes that attacked the Twin Towers. One of the planes left Boston's Logan Airport at 7:59 a.m. The hijackers zoomed the plane into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. The other plane left Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. The hijackers flew the plane into the South Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m. America had stated that 10 planes were suppose to be hijacked on that day. “Providing new details on the planning of the plot, the commission staff said that al-Qaida planner Khalid Shaihk Mohammed initially proposed a Sept. 11 attack involving 10 planes that would be used to attack CIA and FBI headquarters, unidentified nuclear plants and tall buildings in California and Washington state,” (Brunker). Both planes that flew into the Twin Towers were Boeing 767. The plane was 159 feet long. Another thing that seemed odd was that 9,700 gallons when it should usually have nothing less than 14,000 gallons. The engine was found on Murray Street when it should have been right around the Tower. Things were said about the plane being like a missile since the engine was dropped so far from the Towers. According to German TV footage, the planes front nozzle was caught on fire before going through the building. Conspiracy theories state that there were three things attached to the plan that were likely to explode. After the plane went into the building the plan some how exploded making it look like a missile went into the building or some how it was some sort of bomb. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, drew out the plane and the way the plane was flown into the Towers and it did not seem right. The plane propellers of the Boeing 757 were smaller than the hole it actuall...
It was not until August of 1996 when Bin Laden issued a fatwa a declaration war upon the US, following the June bombing of a US Air Force Installation in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 service members and wounded 515 people (Hellman.) He laid out the multitude of reasons why the group has purposely targeted the United States and its allies. The fatwa outlines 7 major reasons with a multitude of sub reasons concurrent with his main points. His first is that of “we” as in the western world attacked them first and they are only resisting foreign aggression. The remainder of his reasons includes everything from our exploitation of Islamic countries resources and economies to moral issues such as the acceptance of homosexuality, porn, sex for pleasure and so on that we commonly accept. If we accept and remedy his outlined reasons that he has with the US he calls for us as a whole to deal with and interact with the Islamic peoples of the world on a basis of mutual interest (Osama Bin Laden.) “We also call you to deal with us and interact with us on the basis of mutual interests and benefits, rather than the policies of sub dual, theft and occupation and not to continue your policy of supporting the Jews because this will result in more disasters for you” (Osama Bin laden.)
On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat). Soon the American public believed that the impact of the planes and that the fires had gotten so hot from burning jet fuel, that they caused the steel frames of the buildings to give way and implode, falling to the ground into dust (Shafquat). Internal fires take on the responsibility of the official story, though others believe controlled demolition is to blame. Some evidence that debates these two explanations of how the steel towers fell are: the way the buildings collapsed, the properties of steel, and the evidence of molten metal.
The official story of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory in that the government claims 19 hijackers conspired together to hijack four planes and create terror in the world. Four American airplanes were hijacked; two were driven into the World Trade Centers and the third airplane into the Pentagon. The fourth airplane suspected target was the White House, but it was diverted by the brave men and women aboard that hijacked airplane, and crashed the airline jet before it could reach its target. It was like time stood still as America watched through television broadcast these unbelievable and horrifying events taking place. The reports told of the smell the jet fuel, burning flesh, and people jumping out windows to their death to escape the flames. When the two bravura structures tumbling down, rescuers, (police officers, firefighters, and ambulance drivers and techs) were caught in the mast and lost their lives doing their job trying to save lives.
On the morning of September 11/2001, 19 terrorist working for the Al Qaeda terrorist organization hijacked four commercial planes. They attempted to fly them into multiple U.S targets. One of the planes, American Airlines, flight 11, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:50 a.m. Another plane, United Airlines, flight 175, crashed into the south tower at 9:04 a.m. These tragedies took the lives of nearly 3000 people and affected the lives of millions.
Introduction On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning.
In “Bush’s War of Terror, Cover Up,” Deanna Spingola explains how Bush and his administration had knowledge, maybe involvement, within the 9/11 attacks. Spingola states, “There were procedure failures on 9/11 that could only have occurred if there was complicity from the highest levels of government.” With all that negligence from the government, no one was ever disciple for the intelligence failure. After 9/11 there were more promotions seen within the government. Prior to the attack, air traffic control routinely and without complication pass all protocols 67 times before new convoluted order. Spingola didn’t understand why there was an new order inserted were the Secretary of Defense would put into the decision making and action protocol. There were war game exercises, scheduled to take place the morning of September 11 at which this made the government reaction time slower then usual. Bush was fighting the conspiracy war at the same time the Iraq war. Spingola states, “Bush and his minions claim to be genuine patriots. So either we support their words and actions or we are vilified as unpatriotic.” Bush had a dictator attitude when it came to his reasoning for war. He felt he did not have to justify or answer to anyone’s questions for his reasons. Bush let Americans believe some of the conspiracy theories in order to shift the blame away from his administration. Instead of finding the most qualified skilled individual to lead the investigation on the 9/11 attacks, Bush appointed an individual who has been under fire with the government before. Henry Kissinger, a man whose been investigated for his secretive activities and tried for war crimes, was now called to investigate the biggest crime against America. It took Bush over...
September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
The event that occurred on September 11, 2001 was a tragic and heartbreaking scene for the American people. Americans were distraught and an outbreak of fear and devastation swept the nation. Conspiracies have alluded to blaming the government for this catastrophe; however, some controversies put the sole blame on George W. Bush. Many Americans used him as a scapegoat due to emotional instability or timorous feelings towards the attacks. In response to the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001, George W. Bush positively influenced and reassured the American people that America was strong and that the United States would stop at nothing to find who was responsible for such acts.
The Texas City Disaster of 1947 was a disaster that really left a impact to the world. The Texas City Disaster of 1947 was one of the world's worst industrial disasters.
The world experiences disasters every day and there has to be someone there to help. That someone could be considered Disaster Medicine EMS or rescue workers who get called out for natural disasters, terrorist attacks, major events, etc.…An excellent example of a terrorist attack would be the Boston Marathon where a major event was held and many people were hurt from a bomb going off . That terrorist attack took more than just rescue workers, paramedics, and other experienced professionals, it took civilians helping each other until professional help arrived. Natural disasters could be consider tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, blizzards, or any other weather condition that requires outside resources.
I never realized how society and culture frame incidents can determine whether it was a disaster or just something that happened somewhere. Like it was mentioned in the chapter about the Sultana when that happened it was on the heels of the end of the Civil War and right after the assassination of President Lincoln. I honestly did not know about that. I had read about the Sultana in high school history class but it was just mentioned once then never heard from about again. Whereas the Hindenburg, 9/11 and even the more recent Boston Bomber are talked about everywhere in this country and very well known to us. Not only does society and culture decide what gets turned into a disaster it also effects everything from politics to economics. After 9/11 the United States was transformed into a security state and anti-Muslimism grew exponentially and going to war in the Middle East became a political driving force.
The blizzard of 1888 was unanticipated by the meteorologists, leaving the migrants who had ventured out to the midwest, without any precise warnings or means of communication to notify them of severe weather, let alone a blizzard that would come to be known as the Great Blizzard of 1888. That day, many school children walked to school without their cold-weather wear, because the temperature was warm enough for them to do so. Some children were released from their schoolhouses destined for their homes before the blizzard began its reign, not knowing the trepidation they would face. This problem was not just for the children, but for others who had begun their day, not knowing that a petrifying blizzard would wreck havoc on their lives. David Laskin’s The Children’s Blizzard illustrates a tragedy. A tragedy could be an event that is caused by a terrible situation that results in utter chaos and destruction. According to Merriam-Webster, a tragedy is a very sad, unfortunate, or upsetting
Disaster. A word known to the human race for millennium, spanning back to even before the likely creation of humanity. But disaster can be human made as well. The novel Hiroshima, written by John Hersey, and September 11, shows us that when people are together they are stronger. Although the bomb and terrorist attack was initially devastating, we were able to come back by being together.
