I'm a 33 years old full time student of five children, work two jobs just to support me and my family, I can honestly say that before I started this class I really did not know anything about writing an essay nor a drp test my reading and writing have improved numerous. I am more proud of myself this semester because almost two years ago I started school and never made it this far before I quite. So I am very proud of the accomplishment I made this semester. Over the semester, I have learned numerous things about myself as a reader and a writer. When I first began class, I did not know anything about writing an essay. I could not spell well nor tell you what a thesis was. As the semester went on, my communication skill has improved, my vocabulary has expanded, and my writing has improved greatly. In addition to my reading and writing, I have learned that I can do anything I put my mind to as long as I work hard. I did not know anything about writing an essay or even how to start an essay, but now I know how to prewrite and organize ideas using tools to help me with editing, writing conclusions, taking notes and summarizing information, these are some of the things I did not know before starting school. I realized that working two jobs and being a full time student was too …show more content…
With reading, I am very good with learning word parts, making study cards and using web sites to practice and learn. Also taking notes and summarizing information is very easy for me, but I still have trouble finding main ideas and details in passages. I know that writing essays is a big issue for me because I have trouble developing a thesis statement, writing topic sentences for each paragraph, and supporting and developing them with explanations and examples. Then I know that I need to think about word choices. I know that I have improved a great deal from my first
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
...t I have improved this area over the course of the semester. I am at the milestone in my writing, however, with hard work and determination I will improve as a writer throughout my college years.
This semester has taught me about the challenges that come with writing, but has given me the tools to overcome them. I learned through trial and error that writing about I know can inevitably help me in connecting my literary ideas to my personal history. The writing processes this year has challenged me to push my writing ability to a new collegiate level. I feel as though that when this course is completed, I will have successfully displayed my improved writing ability. Writing is something that an author should be proud of. My work this semester is indubitably something that I can be proud of. I guess this goes to show...when in doubt, I can always count on Philadelphia.
...dless of what I am trying to accomplish. I feel that I am much better now, in persuading someone through my writings; which would definitely come in handy in the future. The responsibility I have gained during this experience is incredible and has taught me to be a much more organized person. During this semester I was taught a process of how to write a paper and organize it. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me realize that I could definitely take the next step forward in my academic career. Each new experience I involve myself in has made me continue to grow and constantly learn something new. I am someone who has never really enjoyed English classes in the past and I when I registered for English 101 I only saw it as a requirement to graduate but I really did enjoy this English course and I know that it was something that was worthwhile for me.
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I have. Strangely enough, I?ve found the college English experience to be much more rewarding and enjoyable than in high school.
My strengths as a writer have grown even stronger throughout the semester. Coming in, I was great at grammar and punctuation. I knew most of the rules and how to use them
During the course of the semester, all of the writing and research skills I developed helps to strengthen my self-confidence in many areas and it aids me in achieving my goals for the future. By developing more effective research approaches for finding and citing sources, I advanced from an inexperienced writer to a confident writer with the suitable knowledge to create effective essays to capture my audience. Having confidence in my abilities to use the skills I learned will help me to become a success in college. With more practice and valuation of my strengths and weaknesses, I can continue to improve and become an excellent communicator in the future.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
I feel this semester, only the first I will survive, was a successful one. I feel that one of the objectives of this class was to make us better writers and I certainly improved throughout this course. I have learned what makes an unacceptable paper and what makes a good paper, and what makes it easier to write a strong paper.
The way I approach writing has changed greatly over the course of this semester. In the beginning of the year I didn’t particularly like writing and I approached it with contempt. I would put off writing until the last second, which consequently made my writing less than par. I was also not confident in my skills in conventions. This class helped me start early and gave my confidence. To say this class completely overhauled my approach to writing would be a lie, but I will say that I have a tremendously easier time approaching a paper.
Over the course of the writing year I have learned many new skills. It was very helpful to learn these skills because know I know how to use them in real writing and speaking.
Throughout the school year, my knowledge of how to be a successful student and person, has skyrocketed. English this class has pushed me, caused great stress, and most importantly, improved my skills in many aspects of life. I realized that the things we learned in class, improve our skills in other classes as well. This semester revealed many weaknesses I face as a student while pushing me to expand my mind. During English One Honors second semester, my reading, writing, and speaking skills, improved tremendously.
I learned many different things this past semester. I have learned to write an essay using the MLA format. I also learned that trying and paying attention helps you pass the class. I think the one thing i have improved on is writing essays. I used to be terrible at them and always using incorrect punctuation, but after writing essays and getting feedback on them i have gotten a lot better at it. This may be the last essay i do write, but if it isn’t I will be prepared on the correct way to write one.
