There was a lot that I have learned this semester from this class. Some of the stuff I learned is more important than other stuff I have learned. One of the most important things I learned from study strategies is having better communication skills. I used to never email my professors or give them a call to let them know I wasn't going to be in there class I just wouldn't show up to class and they would be really frustrated and upset with me that I wouldn't go to class and never tell them. This class has majorly helped me get in the habit of contacting them and letting them know when I wasn't going to there.
The communication skills I have picked up is also helping me with working if I need to miss a day, because now I email and call my boss

Some bad stuff I learned about myself is that I still have a lot of problems getting my work in on time which I know most professors won’t let me turn it in if its late, so I do need to grow and improve on my time management skills so I get my work done on time since being a student is my first priority. The kind of student I am touches a lot on what I learned about myself this semester. In PC applications I have a 75 and that’s because IO either passed assignments in to late or they weren't accepted because I turned them in too late, but in history I have an 89 because I get all of the work done on time and i'm taking notes and asking questions and studying. I have been told by my proffers in PC applications history that I have an opportunity to do really well and succeed in college but if you throw away this opportunity that’s on you so study and later in life you will be thanking yourself for studying and never giving up on yourself. You have all the tools to succeed in college but you also are just as capable of throwing that away by doing what so many students do and that is throw away this chance to further your education. That was your choice to further your education no one else’s so don’t waste your money and time if you aren't here for one purpose. The deaths per year done by guns, 80% of them are gang related. If I Grow Up, written by Todd Strasser shows the life of a male kid growing up in the projects in Chicago. DeShawn wanted didn’t want to join the gang and stay in school. But his family didn’t have money or food. His friend that was in the gang had a bunch of money. So DeShawn joined the gang because in school they didn’t teach them much, and the money that his family got was a lot more of it when he got in the gang. I think that DeShawn had a choice not to join the gang because he could get a job, could have gotten a better education, and other people have gotten out of the projects.
The story I chose for this analysis is “Why, you reckon?” by Langston Hughes. IN this analysis I will be focusing on how the great depression in Harlem had effect on the story, how racism played a part, and how or if the characters were justifyied in their actions. During this time period the intense racial divide combined with the economic harships that plagued the U.S. during the 1923’s makes for an interesting story that makes you think if the charaters were really justified.
Language and power have a strong relationship, when one is speaking one is introducing two things at once. Language and power hold on to each other like a priest and his God. They take each other in, sometimes helping others understand it. In “Aria” by Richard Rodriguez and in “And Then I Went to School” by Joe Suina describes how language and power can create and destroy your past and present.
The chapter “Clarify What’s Important to you” introduces several successful leaders and many praiseworthy values to me. Although each leader comes from different environments and possesses different characters, all of them keep their precious values in mind and persist in chasing their ideal lives. Even if each value can be interpreted by different meanings, they all lead encourage individuals to become better.
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. Again, the journey was long, but I will be forever grateful for the things that I, and all of my peers have gained from this
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
For my solo performance, I sang a piece named ‘I remember’ in the Musical Theatre genre. My piece was written by composer and lyricist, Stephen Sondheim who wrote both the musical score and the lyrics of the song. This song was written, along with several others, for the show ‘Evening Primrose’, a musical based on a short story, written by John Collier, which was published in the 1951 collection ‘Fancies and Goodnights’. It tells the story of a poet, Charles Snell, who takes refuge from the world by hiding out in a department store after closing. Once there, he meets a community of night people who live in the store and falls in love with a beautiful young girl named Ella. In this particular song, character Ella Harkins – originally played by Charmain Carr – reminisces about the outside world and all the memories she has from when she was younger and out in the open. It was written specifically for the television anthology series ABC Stage 67 and first aired in the US on November 16th 1966. It was later adapted into a stage show. Culture Centers in Higher Education: Perspectives on Identity, Theory, and Practice is a powerful and enlightening book by Lori D. Patton. Patton is a higher education scholar who focuses on issues of race theories, African American experiences on college campuses, student development theories, campus environments, inclusion, and multicultural resources centers at higher education institutions. She has a variety of publications and was one of the first doctoral students to complete a dissertation that focused exclusively on Black culture centers entitled, “From Protest to Progress: An Examination of the Relevance, Relationships and Roles of Black Culture Centers.” In Campus Culture Centers in Higher Education Patton collaborates with many higher education scholars and faculty members to discuss various types of racial and ethnic culture centers in higher education, their overall effectiveness, relevance, and implications for improvement in relation to student retention and success. Diversity, inclusion and social justice have become prevalent issues on all college campuses, and this piece of literature gives a basic introduction for individuals unfamiliar with cultural resource centers. This book successfully highlights contributions of culture centers and suggestions for how centers can be reevaluated and structured more efficiently. For many faculty, administrators, and student affairs professionals unfamiliar with the missions and goals of culture centers, Patton’s text provides a concrete introduction and outline for the functionality of these resources and also offers recommendations and improvements for administrators managing multicultural centers.
In his poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, poet Robert Frost communicates the idea that everything created in the cosmos which is pure and possesses the beauty of gold can’t be put at a halt. It will lose its glow or purity at one time or the other. He reveals this idea through the use of a metaphor. Through lines one and five of his poem, he compares the nature’s leaves to a golden and beautiful sighted moment that doesn’t last long enough so that we can enjoy its bright view every day, and ultimately it all withers away through its color and appearance. “Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold.” In these lines, Robert Frost explains the meaning that the glistening green color of the nature when all its leaves bloom is a flourishing sight, but it’s a radiant color that is hard to be hold. In line six, he uses an allusion to Adam and Eve’s story. “So Eden sank to grief.” This line expands on the idea that purity is another thing that can’t remain forever. The Fall of the House of Usher is a gothic short story by Edgar Allen Poe, perhaps the most iconic early american gothic writer. The Gothic is classed as a subcategory of Romanticism often depicting characters as Byronic heroes, delusional narrators as well as eerie, desolate and ghostly settings typically in haunted houses or otherwise old and decrepit buildings. Resulting in an ‘uncanny’ experience for the reader in accordance to Freud’s The Uncanny. In his writing Poe uses numerous common themes, motifs and structures that make his work easily recognisable leading to his stories being easily classified of being of the gothic.
I find this helpful in all classes that I take. Not all teachers teach in the same way, therefore, I need to figure out my studying skills for every teacher I have. In Micro class, I figured out that I needed to pay attention to the material that was covered in the lab, and the class assignments. When I was studying I focused on these two parts of class the most. Of course, I would still reread the PowerPoints and all my class notes. Furthermore, note taking was an extremely important part of this class. I would rewrite my notes so that I was able to have a better understanding of the

The text cues the reader to accept that it is not so much involved with perfume, but with the beauty of nature: ‘gold delicious’. The syntagm that makes up the text of this image is dominated by an image of a girl biting an apple. The word in the upper left hand corner offers thanks to those who bought this perfume were helping the environment rather than the company.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
