Americans. To those families and especially my parents I thank you for understanding and standing with us. This day belongs to you as well.
The hallmark of being a veteran is service and sacrifice. We meet here today to honor and pay tribute to those who have served and those who continue to serve.
They who serve that we may enjoy the best America has to offer; FREEDOM AND PEACE AT HOME. Those who choose to serve in the ranks of our military do so voluntarily. Some first join to help pay for school. Some join in the pursuit of learning a job skill for when they return to the comfort of home and family. Others join because it was their childhood dream to take up the Profession of Arms. But whatever their reason they all volunteered to provide a necessary service to America and in so doing extended that service to the rest of the world. This service is manifested in providing comfort to our own citizens suffering from the devastation of Katrina two years ago to the current events which unfolded in the wild fires in California. They also brought hope and comfort to peoples of other nations such as the people who suffered in the earthquakes in Pakistan and those areas devastated by the tsunami a few years before. From the deadly beaches at Normandy, to jungle warfare in South Vietnam, the vast deserts of Iraq, or the hillsides of Bosnia-Herzegovina ... the American service men and women have contributed the brunt of the force required to provide sanctuary and hope for the weak and oppressed. Those veterans have answered the nations calling and have done and continue to do so proudly.
If service is the calling then sacrifice is the price our veterans must pay for that service. From the time our Soldiers, ...

History records the valor of the American Veteran in terms of units and armies and forces, the role of the American Veteran is the story of each individual who accepted the Call of Duty.
This gathering to honor the American Veteran is a tribute to their glory and their devotion to duty.
Veterans are a hearty lot. They serve and sacrifice, and having the honor of wearing the uniform is enough thanks for most of them.
But still, speaking here today on behalf of those who have served and those who continue to do so -- active, Reserve or Guard -- your presence here today, for this event, is indeed appreciated. It is appreciated more than you can know.
What does Veterans Day mean? It comes down to one sentence -- one phrase that you can never hear too often in a democracy: Freedom is not free.
The mission statement of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is, “To fulfill President Lincoln's promise ‘To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan’ by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s vete...
“ A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves.” ~Mother Teresa. Servicemen like firefighters, police officers, and military personnel sacrifice their lives every single day. Harriet Tubman made over a dozen trips to the South to help free slaves. Moche’ from the novel Night, went back to his home to warn his friends and family about what was about to happen to them. However, Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice. How much do people sacrifice? These people risk their lives, freedom, and safety. Not everyone is a selfish person, people like to help other people. That’s just humanity.
Our veterans helped make our country the best country, which is known for fact.Today, because of our veterans I’m proud to say that every citizen has the right to speak and share their voice no matter what their race is. In some countries, there are still racial conflicts and all races.I am also proud to say that every child in America,no matter what their race is, they can have a free education. Most children in other countries are not allowed to go to school because they can’t afford it instead, they go to work
As early as the 1920s, thousands of men and women have been deployed to fight for our country. Many go to war and unfortunately some do not make it out alive. While
Not everybody is willing to risk their lives for others. I think that certain people have strength and bravery to join the army. I think some people go into the Army to better themselves because maybe they are not having a good life back at home so they have no choice but to join the Army for a better life. According to the Defense ManPower Data Center only 0.4 percent of the United States population is in the active military as a whole(Chalabi,2015). The percentage of people who are active in the Army would probably be around 0.2 percent. People who are in the Army probably feel unique because not many people want to join. As a whole I view the members to be dedicated, dependable, and look out for each other and
When you look into veterans eyes, you can see several things that are important. The pride shines through, the pride of serving ones country, and the dedication to protect other peoples freedom even it if requires paying the ultimate price. These men and women give their lives to give us our freedom. As a one of the many individuals that they are protecting it is vital that we see that pride and appreciate where it comes from.
...earns huge amounts of respect from people. The government doesn’t provide much aid for military veterans, but the respect one gets is amazing. Many people in America send money, cloths, and letters to our troops overseas in in other countries. Plus, when they get released from the military, as long as they aren’t diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, they can get a job right away and can even start a family.
The purpose of Veterans Day is to honor veterans who have served and sacrificed for our nation. Nevertheless, nobody knows what veterans do or how they feel after separating from the military.
America’s veterans should be honored because they have suffered through so many hardships that others could not and have not survived, and they did it for their country that they loved and still love today.
As time goes, the understanding of the day has changed as well. Much like the original concept of the Purple Heart being an award given for valor and merit before transitioning later to a medal for wounded service members, Veterans Day originated with the same concept as today’s Memorial Day. What is most important to realize is that regardless of what the true definition means to the observer, the purpose behind the day is to remind us all that people put their lives on the line in support of their countries and their fellow man. Their service, their sacrifice, and their dedication to something greater than themselves is honored across the
“I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit and I will never leave a fallen comrade.” Every single solider live up to this saying and without hesitation each single one of them risks their lives every day for us. So, if you ask me what the definitions of heroism, Honor, patriotism, responsibility, and Sacrifice I would simply tell you the Medal of Honor recipients.
It is beautiful to see so many loving family members and friends here to share in this occasion, especially those who have traveled some distances to
Commemoration is a time to reflect on the fact that our entire way of life is predicated on the sacrifices and courage of those that came before us and fought for our respective nations. It takes more courage than most of us can imagine risking ones life for an intangible goal such as victory for a nation. It has long been held that we should honour our past soldiers, to that honour I say that we should add thanks and deference.
Good afternoon, let me just start by saying that the kindness, support, friendship, and love extended to me and my family during this difficult time has really touched my heart- we are sincerely appreciative!
Before I begin I would like to thank all of you here on behalf of my mother, my brother and myself, for your efforts large and small to be here today, to help us mark my fathers passing.
