"Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." is a quote from the novel that implies that there are some people who symbolize a mockingbird in the novel. One of the people who is symbolized as a mockingbird is Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson could be symbolized as a mockingbird because he did not harm anyone or do anything that could harm someone while contributing good to the world and helping people with jobs they couldn't do by themselves. He was a selfless and kind man who was doing nothing but living his life and doing good for people. As Atticus says in the novel, “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy.” This is what happened in the court as there was logical evidence that Tom Robinson was innocent. The mockingbird was killed by the people in the court that believed that he was guilty, thus killing his innocence and also killing the innocence of many other people, such as Scout and Jem Finch. The person who was the most guilty of killing the mockingbird was Bob Ewell. Bob Ewell was the person who injured Amyella Ewell. Tom Robinson's cause of being sent to jail was for being framed for hurting Mayella Ewell. Bob Ewell also destroyed the innocence of Jem, Scout, and Atticus by sentencing Tom Robinson as guilty for being a person of color and for attempting to kill Scout and Jem to get back at Atticus for defending a person of
