I've had a horrible experience as a high school student. More than half of the teachers are disrespectful and make the students feel stupid. I've been here for years and have regretted every year. The learning "methods" are taking away from the real education at hand. There have been many times when students have been yelled for not knowing something when the teacher has not taught the information. Rather, they give papers out and tell the students to go online and “teach yourself". The teachers are disrespectful to the students and randomly go off topic for half the class, thus taking away from the student's education. Some of the administration is controlling of the students and the parents. They majorly restrict the students on trying to
... of the students. Many of the students have no sense of belonging and see no relevance of to be at a place where even there teachers have no expectations for them.
My first high school had an unhospitable atmosphere. It had the distinction of having the highest murder rate of any school in North Carolina.
High school and college dropout rates are at an all time high. Secondary school students are told throughout high school that if they don’t go to college then they will never be successful. Going to college doesn’t always make a difference because many career choices such as teachers and lawyers are highly contested and result in either no job or low salary. Low pay deters teacher’s motivation and they tend to work part time jobs to supplement their income. Public schools standards are comparable to a kangaroo court’s procedure; private schools are known for better teachers, environment, and test grades. The major problems in the public school system include the lack of funding, lack of resources, and lack of standards.
When most people think of changes that have occurred over a period of fifteen years, they think of changes for the better. Unfortunately, in some situations the circumstances are different. I have attended Bayou Academy for fifteen years. As I look back on my years here, I notice the changes our school has undergone. When I was in elementary school, petty rules were not a big ordeal. As I near the end of my senior year, petty rules are the only thing that is talked about at Bayou. The school has decided to make major changes within the cafeteria, textbooks, and our everyday classroom rules. The decisions that have been made affect students throughout their every day lives and hinder them from having a pleasurable experience at school.
Throughout the world, students are encouraged to attend high school and continue their education. However, many students find it worthless and become uninspired. They blame the faculty, school policies, and fellow students, when they should be blaming themselves. Unchallenging course work is most likely a sign that the student isn’t taking a hard enough course. During my high school experience, students had the opportunity to take college courses through our high school. This gave the more advanced students a chance to practice the same routine as “normal” students, but still challenge and educate themselves. Abolishing high school would not solve any problems in our educational system. There are many ways to improve upon our school system; however, we need to start at the beginning.
Fairfax High School is a great place to go to school. There is multiple reasons why Fairfax is a great school to go to. The best thing is that all of the teachers actually care about their students, and are hard on them so they work harder. In big schools where there is about 30 kids or more in every class and the teachers teach the same thing for each period all day long. Those big school teachers don’t really care at all what grade their students get in their class. At Fairfax if students get a bad grade teachers are willing to give their students a second chance to get a better one. Also those teachers would take time after school to help their students understand to stuff they have been learning. Teachers
A significant problem of practice in education is teacher bias. Teacher bias has implications around race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and socioeconomic status. Teachers must be willing to examine their beliefs, acknowledge and overcome their biases. Teachers need to evaluate their practices in relation to their ideals as well as recognize and assess the position of power they hold in their classrooms in order to be true Social Justice Educators (Cooper, 2003).
Speaking from personal experience, for the most my part high school did a poor job in preparing me to be successful in college. The habits of a good student are developed at an early stage, which is why it is critically important for kids to receive proper education as early as possible. Obtaining a college degree is something that most parents wish for their children but it can sometimes be an obstacle for someone that did not receive a proper education from a young age. I grew up in South Central and I must admit that for the most part my education was exceptional from first to seventh grade due to me attending magnets schools. But in eighth grade I attended a LAUSD middle school
when I moved to the US, I was coming from a French school system to an American school system, they were a lot things that I was unfamiliar with and wanted to know more but when I would ask questions and the response I received were not what I was expecting , as a student you would think that the teachers would be interest in helping you but most of the time they would say something like " let's talk about that later !" and that later for the most part never came and I was in state where I would feel embarrassed and fear for being the weird one for asking question about the things that were unknown to me , eventually school was no longer the welcoming place i hoped it to be , I wasn't there because I wanted it , was there because i was forced to do
The education system is probably the most utilized system on this planet. Most humans have passed through a type of school whether they wanted too or not. School is primarily a place designed for people to attend and learn. It is a place to better yourself, to learn facts, discipline, to learn social and economic skills. Yet for all that school is intended for, different people go for various reasons. Some are hardworking and academically minded, going to study with an aim of setting a good foundation for their future and having a successful and accomplished career. Others are carefree and go for the social side, to be popular with lots of friends, and in the end just to have an enjoyable time. For many it can even be an area
In the process of creating my own High School I would look at how the students are learning. From personal experience of going to a normal public school, I know that sitting in a classroom all day long did nothing. It kept me uninterested and not wanting to learn. Some students like that setting. Personally I don’t. In my school I would make it an environment that the students could choose what learning techniques they like best. I would make it a fun environment for students to learn while also making sure the students stay on track.
The problem that most students run into is their attitude toward school, they think school is a waste of time. Almost every students don’t like school, they think do homework and go to school is not the best way to live their life. This is the attitude that will not help them in school if they want to learn. Students can fix this attitude if they want to change their way of seeing school. First what they have to do is change all of their thought such as, school is a waste of time, I can do
Teacher Ethics “Ethics are defined as a set of principles of right conduct; the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession” (Dictionary of the Human Language, 2000). Teachers are often put in situations that require more than just knowing the basic school rules. It is within these situations, that the ethical dilemmas occur. There is not always a right way to deal with the many daily problems that face educators, but there are ways to handle situations that are better than others. Teachers should follow and refer to a code of ethics to help teach in the most appropriate and ethical way as well as a guide to help deal with dilemmas.
Classroom by definition is a place where students meet to study the same subject. A teacher, who took a leadership role in leading discussions and getting students to be involved in learning the subject taught, controlled this environment at one time. Now a days, the role of a teacher in a classroom environment has been reversed. Students are allowed to take the leadership role in creating and leading discussions. Just as roles of the teacher and a student have changed in a classroom over the years, so have the relationships between a student and a teacher. Many years ago, as we have read and heard, student teacher relationships have been very formal, distant, and the teacher's judgement was accepted. With almost 21 years of experience as a student, I have come to learn the relationship between student and teacher can vary depending on many characteristics. Since everyone has a different background and a different character, it is almost difficult to say how a teacher should relate to a student or vice versa. I do believe that student teacher relationship should be professional, yet not so professional that students fear to approach. Teacher, student relationship should be formal, yet inviting. Teacher student relationship should definitely not be judgmental, and it should allow the teacher on her or his part to take time to get to know the student.
...ke school something that the students can look back on and think that it was a meaningful time where they learned a lot about life instead of a time where they thought they would have a break down because they got a low score on a test. School should be a time to make mistakes in a safe environment that they can learn from, not a place that they are petrified to make a mistake for fear of retribution on their grade cards. Its time to change the school system to save future students from becoming stress crazed and to let them know that there is more to this world than a grade card and in the long run it is a very small fraction of life.
