Paul could have presented this to Bill and the families regarding what it means to be a member of a church. By obeying the gospel, we are added by the Lord to his church. Acts 2:41, 47. The word “church” is used in two senses in the Bible: to. The Universal Church of God. Mt 16:18; Acts 2:47; Eph 1: 22-23. It is composed of all individuals saved in the world (even of the past). In this sense the term is singular, there is only one church that Christ established, a single body of saved, but there are many individuals that make up this group. It is completely a relationship of brothers to a common Father and to one another. In this sense the church has no more organization than Christ as the head. One important difference between the Universal and Local church is with regard to how one is in One does not join with the universal church (Acts 2:47), rather it is added to it when he obeys the plan of salvation; That is to say when he becomes a disciple of Christ. As a result, the saved should join a local church e.i. Paul, Acts 9: 26-28. One must be a member in a local church of our choosing, provided that that church works and adore according to the biblical pattern. Many people who read and study the Bible (and even Christians) do not understand the concept of what it means to be a member of a local church of Christ. Some seem to have the church as if it were a restaurant, they come when they are hungry or as a cafeteria, they choose what they like, and reject what they do not like. Or, like the doctor, they come when they are wrong, or sick.Even Christians sometimes seem to understand the concept of membership in a local church. Christ, because they have the church as a group of believers with whom one joins, especially Sunday for worship; Eat dinner They come and go, freely, sometimes they do not congregate, or congregate in one local church, and then in another without taking responsibility in …show more content…
Many of the young families left without hesitation. They didn’t even talk to Paul about why they were leaving. They just got up and left to another church. This demonstrated that they had a lack of knowledge of what it is to be a member of a church. Membership in a local church brings us or gives many blessings (privileges), but also carries great responsibilities. Usually, we see more clearly the blessings or privileges, but not so much the responsibilities or duties. It is a matter of making a choice. On the part of the individual, and by the church. Act 9:
The church or Ecclesia, as it is called in the original Greek language, regardless of size, are the called out ones who assemble to represent the Body and life of Jesus Christ. They engage in meetings of praise, worship, and listening to the Word of God, which is taken from their manual called the Holy Bible, or the Scriptures; those bringing the message are considered to be the mouthpieces for God, and are typically called preachers (KJV, Eph 5.23-32). According to the Bible, the church, which includes the preachers, is to strive to exemplify the type of life that Jesu...
But to explore the thoughts regarding the boundaries of the church any further, we must clarify exactly what the church is. When Paul gives his closing salutations to the Romans, he says “…greet the church that is in their house.” (Romans 16:5) He was referring to the people, the believers, within the house. Additionally, Paul says in his exposition on Christ “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills a...
LET IT SHINE The movie let the shine is about this teenage talented rapper named Tyler Williams that musician who pens romantic hip-hop verses only to stand idly by as they’re delivered to the girl of his dreams by a proxy, his best friend, in a retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. I was thrilled to see Disney encourage its minority viewers with this film. I think it says a lot about how far television has come in terms of diversity. I hope America as a whole will support this movie as well.
1. A significant passage we have gone over in class together is Acts 2: 42-47: Communal Living. In this passage the followers became a community and a church and they were spreading the wealth to help other like Jesus would so that none were marginalized and all were taken care of. The followers devoted themselves to the teachings of the apostles and communal life. Everyone would meet up and they would break bread with each other. 2. The author of the Acts of the Apostles is Luke the Evangelist. Luke saw the church and everything that was going on it as the work of the Holy Spirit and that he was enlivening the people to do the things they are doing and working through people such as Paul, John, and others of the Early Church. 3. I see the people actually live as church and the church is changing and becoming more of a community. I see the Holy Spirit in this because it is sort of the main cause of this development of the church be cause he made all of the events leading up to this happen. 4. In this passage I see community of disciples because that is exactly what it became it became a community of followers of Jesus and they had values and lifestyles that differed from the social norm of the times. Community of disciples is defined as a group that devote themselves as followers of Jesus thereby having values and lifestyles that may often be in contrast with society. 5. Having studied this passage, I now realize that the Holy Spirit brought all the people together and because of that they became accepting of each other. One way I see this passage related to church life today is that we all break bread with one another and have no second thought about it when we receive communion together we are not thinking about who that ...
Over and over I heard people say, “If you’re not meeting in a church you’re ‘forsaking the assembling of yourselves together’ (Hebrews 10:25), and therefore are living in sin.” It killed me (even while I was in my church) when a person became angry at someone for not attending an established church building but a home church or a Bible study. I never understood why they did that. But since I was on the outside looking into the situation, I could see the attitudes of both people during those conversations and tried to determine their heart condi...
...ty in the world that even remotely resembles it”. (p91) Going forward what is needed is for the Corinthians is to stop being self-centered and repent. The church is God’s sanctuary. Paul’s portrayal of the church expands upon the role of the “Father Son and Holy Spirit in relation to the church”(p91). Which minimizes the role of its leaders, the leaders are not to be put on a pedestal. Because all the glory goes to God the leaders are mere servants of their flock and servants of God. The growth in God’s field is caused by God not humans as for God’s building the only foundation is that of Jesus Christ, and God’s temple is where the Holy Spirit dwells. According to Romans 8:17 what is Jesus’s is ours 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
denomination called the Church of Christ. The Churches of Christ have come to be called
In 1 Corinthians 12-14, Paul set out to address the issues of exclusivity and the divide among the converts of Corinth that has been caused because of spiritual gifts. Paul set a guideline to his converts in Corinth to create order and conduct during times of worship in 1 Corinthians 14:26-33. Doing so, Paul hoped that the divide that has been caused from those with special or “exclusive” spiritual gifts do not cause other believers to become jealous or envious. Paul’s guideline to the Corinthians showed the leadership that Paul had that allowed him to guide the Church to become Hellenistic in just one generation.
When the Christian church was first founded many question arose from its formation. What was this new organization and what was to become of it? There are many interpretation of what the church should be. They range from small community church lead by a reverend to a worldwide church lead by a pope. I will argue the latter. That the original meaning from the bible was to a have a single unified church under the primacy of the bishop of rome. This can be supported in three areas the historical, biblical, and theological reasoning.
The first group in these categories is the Never-Miss-a-Service Christians. They consider themselves the bedrock of the Christian faith. Their lives are centered on following Jesus Christ. Furthermore, it is unacceptable to just attend the typical Sunday morning and evening services. This group is involved in every aspect of church functions.
The doctrine of the church is ecclesiology, which comes from the greek word church - human beings who are like Christ. This doctrine is a doctrine for the universal church. We sometimes enter a singular way of talking about our culture when the bible speaks in plurality. Ecclesiology gives us the basis of our belief and marks of the church which gives us clarity of what it means to be “one holy catholic and apostolic.” The church bears four marks: Unity, Holiness, Catholicity, and Apostolicity. These four marks are the truth about the church. We must act in Unity because the church is one, 1 Corinthians 12:12 say “Just as the body is one and as many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” The Holiness is a inheritance given to us by Christ. However we can not achieve that alone. As we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit, He actualizes that for us. Catholicity is the universality and wholeness the church, making room for people to enter the body of Christ. Lastly is apostolicity which is about the authority and truth, and the authority of the apostles is in their eyewitness testimony of Jesus (2 Peter 1:16). The church teaches about the apostles truth that is true to the gospel of Jesus
People Are Not Leaving the Church Because It Isn't Fun Enough "And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God" (1 Cor. 2:4-5). The power of God is not found on a fancy stage, under bright lights, working through cool bands, or streaming across video screens. The power of God is found through the Holy Spirit who appears through holy fire. That's not to say that God cannot work in a place that has a nice band or tech savvy production team, but when your church depends on you to draw the people in instead of God, there is a good chance you won't find the Spirit there.
The church is a place in which many come to find a sense of belonging, comfort, and purpose. It's through these three qualities which have drawn and maintained many church goers throughout the years.
A response to the interpretation of Acts 4:32–36 as an endorsement of a type of communal living as being normative for the Christian church.
What is the church? This can be a very deep question, or a rather simple one depending on one’s context, theology, and general understanding of Scripture and faith. From my personal experience, most members of the congregations I grew up in if asked this question would point to the church building or sanctuary. This is not that surprising in my opinion when we consider the gorgeous monuments we have built as houses for God. As a child, I would have answered the exact same way as most people in a congregation, and it was not until later in my adulthood that I came to understand “the church” not as a physical building, but as much more. A very common response to this question has been that the church is “the people of God” or even “God’s chosen people.” I, however, prefer the definition of the church as “the community of Christian faith,” a much more inclusive definition than the previous mentioned definitions.
