What does community health mean to you? Community health to me is a group of people that live within the same area where their interest is to improve the overall health of the individuals. Individuals work together to be able to come to concepts to better improve the health for those that live in the region by education, awareness and promoting the advancement of educational tools that can improve the overall quality of living. Means that are taken can range from primary intervention, such as washing hands and immunization to secondary interventions such as working on improving the environment that they live in to tertiary intervention, which includes the measures that the hospital uses to maintain an overall health status. What kind of organization(s) do you see yourself working? The organizations that I see myself working in the future are possibly The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM); this organization “provides education and networking for healthcare professionals” (American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management). …show more content…
Health promotion improves the quality of life that individuals have and it also helps to be able to expand a healthy lifestyle. Health educators can range from teachers in schools to government agencies that aid in educating individuals and communities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health promotion enables people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. The WHO states that health promotion moves beyond the focus of individual behavior to social and environmental interventions. In my opinion, I believe that Para-professionals should also be qualified to be health educators. They are around patients and are possibly able to educate people more than just health educators. By limiting the Para-professionals this is more costly and less

The health promotion is a key factor process of permitting people to increase control over their health status in order to improve it. It not only covers the actions directly aimed at increasing the skills and capabilities of individuals, but is also aimed at changing the social, environmental and economic issues that impact on healthy habits.
The term “public/community health” often brings to mind sparkling clear clean water and fresh clean air. The reason for that mental image is that both are required in order for one to have good public/community health. In actuality, the term “Public Health” has been defined as “the protection and improvement of the health of the public through community action, primarily by governmental agencies” (Public Health, 2016). However, public health includes any and all actions taken to maintain and improve the general health of a community. Government health programs provide most of the public health services. In addition, many voluntary health agencies receive contributions to battle specific diseases, such as HIV and cancer. These agencies not only provide medical services, they campaign for health legislation, and make important contributions to health education. In the United States, the Public Health Service administers the government’s public health programs. State and local health departments also provide a wide range of
Inside any type of community there are many indicators of health, but now I am going to focus only in five of them. The proper good health of communities it is a very strong matter for governments and society in general. This indicators are important because gives us objectives, data, and resources to guide us in what are the mains community problems when we talk about health. The five indicators that I am going to discuss are: access to health services, physical activities, nutrition and weight status, sexual transmitted diseases, and immunization and infectious diseases. The government program that control and give us all this information is Healthy People 2020.
According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.
Health promotion is a multifaceted movement with a core value on respect, empowerment, equity, inclusion and social justice (MacDougall 2002). Aims to achieve holistic health, while it is influenced by medical and social determinants. These determinants which aids to deter...
A community can be defined as a group of people, who live, learn, work and play in an environment at a given time. (Yiu, 2012, p.213) There are many factors that may influence the community’s development and health status. These can include resources available, accessibility, transportation, safety, community needs etc… These influences may combine together to form community strengths and as well as community challenges or weaknesses. As a community health care nurse, it is significant for us to assess and identify these strengths and challenges within the community in order for us to intervene and provide the appropriate needed health care services for the community members. This individual scholarly paper will explore and focus on one challenge issue identified from our group community assessment.
Service is when someone uses their skill and effort to enrich the wellbeing of others. It is an inherited trait of every individual to look after himself or herself. Service is a benevolent or an altruistic effort in which the benefits typically used for oneself are offered to another. Temple hospital offers community health workers to patients who are in need.
Public health as it is implicated in the lives of the community – it is important to conceptualise what this might mean. Moreover, public health has seen as a multidiscipline perspective in which it can be defined on many levels, and I find that it could be elusive to understand its meaning. By simple understanding of public health, I refer to an approach derived by Winslow (1920) and Baggott (2000).
The purpose of this community profile is to discuss a particular health improvement issue within a chosen community. A community can be defined using many different terms. You can belong to a community through religious beliefs. Through shared experiences or interests. You can belong to a political community where all involved share the same political interests. A community can also be defined as ‘a family’ a small village where many have lived most of their lives who share the same desire to belong to that community.
To answer my questions I looked to my clinical instructor and other resources such as course literature. From these resources, I learned that the purpose of health promotion is to move individuals, groups, and communities closer to optimal well being by educating (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008). Prior to this I thought it also involved preventing illness, but health promotion does not focus on this. Examples of health promotion programs include health education demonstrations, supporting smoke-free environments, encouraging physical fitness, general wellness, smoking cessation, exercise and physical conditioning, weight control, stress management, nutritional awareness, and work safety (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008). In my research I also found that altering personal habits, lifestyle, and environment have a lot to do with promoting
A healthy community as termed as a community that is constantly builds and develops both its physical and social environments, aiding and assisting people to support one another in phases of daily life and to progress to their fullest prospect. Healthy community are those designed and built to improve the quality of life for all people who live, work, worship, learn, and play within their restrictions. A healthy community is a place where every person is free to make choices within a variety of
In the terms of community investment, Cultural Anthropologist Victor Turner used the term community that emerges during a collective ritual and is characterized by social equality, solidarity, and togetherness (Liburd 1) From this perspective, Turner argues that a connection of commonality, interest and preservation are elements needed to not only increase awareness of environmental issues in efforts to secure protection against toxic agents from entry into the community. I want to argue six points to consider in building the characteristics of a community that is deemed effective in combating against environmental injustice and community disenfranchisement for the people of color. First, a community must incorporate a membership or sense of identity and belonging. In efforts to raise awareness about problems in the community, neighbors need to establish a sense of identity through actions, beliefs and shared common interest in order to bring unison in the community. Second, a community with a common symbol system such as language is often used to conceptualize community. For instance, researchers argue that technical language remains a prerequisite for most deliberative forums, often creating an intimidating and discipline barrier for lay citizens seeking to express their disagreements in the language of everyday life. Speaking the language of science, as well as the jargon of a particular policy community, remains an essential, but often tacit, credential for participation in environmental health decision-making even in the new deliberative forms. (Corburn, 43) Third, a community must have shared values and norms that support, promote and educate the ideology of environmental health issues to educate and empowers community lea...
