Baseball was one of the symbols i chose because i've played since T-ball. I've also had a lot of injuries throughout my years of playing baseball once i got hit in the ribs and i had a bruise of a baseball for weeks. I also chose a baseball for my symbol because i've had many of good times playing the sport. I chose a music note for my second symbol because i've loved music since i was really little i listen to all varieties of music. My family is also giant music lovers we have a radio in our kitchen that stays playing. I have some 4 ft tall speakers in my room that i keep playing when i'm home. Baseball has been of the longest living sports in our world today. The game started with the idea of a stick and ball and now has become one of the most complex sports known in our society. Several rules and regulations have been added to help enhance the game for everyone. Although baseball has endured several issues during its history and development of the game the game has still been a success throughout the world.
What has the game of baseball meant for Americans? For many baseball is a game of integrity, honesty, and without a doubt skill. When one of these factors is allowed to overtake the other it leaves the game unbalanced with lost priorities. Like everything else in life, baseball has rules and regulations which should be followed and enforced. The Baseball Hall of Fame honors persons who have excelled in playing, managing, and serving the sport. Having ten years of experience in the game and five years of retirement players who pass a screening committee become eligible to be voted into the Hall of Fame.
Most consider the sport of baseball to be America’s pastime. While many in the United States spend countless hours following or playing the sport, it is more than a diversion in the Dominican Republic; it can be the key to overcoming impoverishment. For most citizens of the island, poverty is the only known way of life. In 2015, 32.4% or 3.4 million lived at or below the national poverty line. The per capita income for the country in 2016 was $6,909.13, which is $45,285.76 less than that of the United States. In order to achieve their goal of creating a better life for themselves and their family, baseball provides Dominicans an opportunity for upward mobility. It is common for children in the Dominican Republic to grow up playing baseball, the country’s beloved sport, hoping to make their hobby a full-time job.
Baseball players chose to sacrifice their careers by fighting for their own country for many years. Over 4,500 baseball players traded their baseball uniforms for a military uniform during the time of World War 2. Throughout the years, baseball has changed how americans acted in war, and how baseball has gotten people through tough times. Over the years, baseball players have gone to war, won a war, and while they were gone organizations like the AAGPBL started, and many of the baseball rules have changed. Also things like the Black Sox Scandal happened during the World War 1.
Baseball is known as America’s national pastime, and has been played for over 100 years. Baseball can be a lot of fun, but is also extremely challenging to play, especially trying to hit a 90 mile per hour fastball. I am a very devoted baseball player myself, and over the years I have learned numerous key things about the game. Baseball does not only require physical strength to hit and throw the ball, but it also requires a great mindset, such as, mental preparedness, concentration, and a positive attitude.
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Major League Baseball, much like the majority of other American institutions, was racially segregated. A color barrier was implemented during baseball’s infancy in order to separate people of different race to cater to the white American players. The color barrier was an unofficial “rule” that hindered those with dark skin from playing baseball for Major League teams. The color barrier was enforced by preventing any teams with a colored player from competing at the professional level. Many team owners, umpires, and players justified their opposition to allowing blacks to play by declaring that only whites could uphold the "gentlemanly character" of professional baseball. Others argued that excluding blacks would prevent future racial resentment between the ethnicities, as players of different races would be competing for the same job opportunities.
When a boy or girl is of age we get “The Talk.” We all know what this “talk” is about and some of us know before we’re even told. Our parents gather us up trying to explain sex through metaphors like, “the birds and the bees”, or the biggest one “Baseball.” As we think about sex at a young age we say “Well this makes sense, Baseball is easy!” with few rules we follow along that baseball is a good metaphor to use, but is it? As we get older, understanding sex seems to be a little more difficult. In order for us to understand sex we have to be willing, so that we can understand the opposite sex. He had to over came the deaths of six siblings and being sent to a catholic orphanage. Many people don't understand the point in playing baseball. Why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they started before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure. Well, I play baseball because of the love I have for the sport, and because of the feeling that overwhelms me every time I walk onto a baseball field. When I walk onto a field I am given the desire to better myself not only as an athlete, but also as a person. The thoughts and feelings I get drive me to work hard towards my goals and to be a better person. The most relevant example of these feelings is when I stepped on the field at Runyon Complex in Pueblo, Colorado during our high school state playoffs in 2003. This baseball field will always be an important place to me.

A basketball represents my life. Basketball has been my life. That's all I have known since my first days of high school and it is and will continue to be the most important thing to me through college. Sometimes though when you've done something for so long, it's healthy to get away so you can find that spark again, that fire, that love as to why you started a passion for the sport in the first place, but I am just getting started. It has taken me places I thought I would never go, and I am hoping it continues to do so.
