America means so much to me and I am so blessed and fortunate to be living here. There are so many different words that I can use to describe America, but I am going to only use three of them. The three honoring words that I think America deserves are religion, sacrifice, and freedom. There is no possible way to fully express my gratitude to all of my ancestors who put so much effort into creating this wonderful nation. But I am going to try my hardest to honor them as much as I can. So please enjoy what I have to say about what America means to me. By 1763, although some colonies still maintained established churches, other colonies had accomplished a virtual revolution for religious toleration and separation of church and state. The Anglican Church was the only established denomination in England. In contrast, the colonies supported a great variety of churches. The largest were the Congregationalist, Anglican, and German churches, but many smaller denominations could be found through the colonies. In addition to this, a high percentage of Americans didn’t belong to any church. These differences could be attributed to the fact that many of the Europeans who immigrated to America didn’t fit in to or agree with the churches in their homelands.
Religion is one cause in the way colonial America established differently than England. Religious persecutions were more prominent in England than in colonial America. Most colonists fled to the New World searching religious freedom. Christian Catholic’s who diverged from the Protestant Church in England faced religious persecution. The New World believed, "That no person or persons which profess faith in God by Jesus Christ shall at any time be anyways molested, punished, disquieted, or called into question for any difference in opinion or matter of reli¬gious concernment, who do not actually disturb the civil peace of the province, that all and every such person or persons may from time to time and at all times freely have and fully enjoy his or their judgments or consciences in matters of religion throughout all the province, they behaving themselves peaceably and quietly and not using this liberty to licentiousness nor to the civil injury or outward disturbance of others" (New York Charter of Liberties and Privileges (1683), 52). During the Washington D.C. trip I got to learn so much about the foundation of America. I also developed a greater understanding of the history behind America and how it started. Liberty, Hope, Acceptance, Recognition, Bravery, Courage, Honor, Independence, and Integrity are all words that can describe what is so great about America. The words that describe the meaning of America to me is acceptance, freedom, and honor.
Just like in Europe and many other parts of the world, religion has been on the decline for many years now in America. From the historical point of view, religion in America is very different from what it was in Europe. The first amendment of the American constitution forbids the state to establish an official church of the state. In other words, secularization is the very premise that America is built upon. In many European countries it is the complete opposite as in for example Sweden where the state church has played a huge role for centuries, and where the church was separated from the state only a few decades ago
What is the American flag and what does it represent? For many Americans the flag represents freedom, pride, and justice. Our flag stands for freedom because of the many lives that had to be lost throughout history for us to be the nation we are today. The American flag stands for pride because of the many American soldiers men and women who lost their lives for us. Before the Revolutionary War, religion and politics could go hand in hand. America, also known as The New World, was thought to be an escape. The freedom of religion was quite a big attraction of the New World. The colonies who came here from England wanted mainly to escape and be free from the religious beliefs of the Anglican Church and Catholic Church. The religious beliefs of the people in the colonies heavily influenced their behaviors in the realm of political ideas. There was a freedom of thought that came with America. The freedom of thought came with having this whole New World as a place for the colonists to express beliefs that might have angered or caused a disturbance in England.

Religion played a major role and motivation in the founding of America. Many European and Spaniards, after Columbus’ discovery went to America in the hopes of converting many Indians to their religion. They also went to America because they had disagreements with their church back at home or they were being rebellious towards the church. For example, in 1534 King Henry VIII was granted being the leader of the Catholic Church which was then converted to the Church of England. Citizens that still wanted to remain Roman Catholics were being prosecuted by the state which led Cecil Calvert to establish and manage a colony in America, later being Maryland in order for the Roman Catholics to practice their religion.
The American colonies were settled and made successful not only by the multitude of leaders who we remember even to this day, but also by thousands of families and individuals who took the risk of crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and were determined to survive and prosper. Settlers had many different reasons for coming. A common one was the desire to enjoy religious freedom in the New World. The colonies offered a haven for many believers, which was rare of that day. Religion was of utmost importance in the colonies. Faith in God defined the nature and practice of the Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland and Pennsylvania colonies and had a strong influence in all of the early English settlements. The America I believe in is fair to all and kind. I believe Americans shouldn't jusdge people on how they look. I think we Americans are what make they country, we can give our country a good or bad image and I hope its good. I like that America is a free and treats people fairly and gives them equal rights. I think if America is free we can all think, say, and believe in what we want without being punished.
America was founded on the idea of freedom. This, of course, includes religious thought, and Americas are free to believe as they want. Americans have always had the freedom to worship as they please in a peaceful manner. Such a right has never been infringed upon (on the federal level that is) and in this way the American culture is free. To reiterate, humankind has had difficulty predicting the future of religion in America; but it can be seen where the religious population is going into the future and the impact it has in our culture, and the culture to come. Only time will tell the truth behind the future of religion in America.
