What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord
When we think of the name Lord as Christians we think of God, as he is
powerful, almighty and great. Jesus however was a human and to be
called "Lord" is very special because no one in history has been
called that before. As Christians we would say the name Lord means
miracle worker, ruler and faithful. Jesus was mainly all these things
as he performed many miracles in his life which many different types
of people benefited from which are recorded in the Gospels. Many Jews
thought of Jesus as a lord because he helped many of them; outcasts,
Romans, women and the rich ands poor and many others he helped in his
life on Earth. Jesus truly was a leader of the human race.

Christians today still think that God created the Universe and
ourselves as humans. Jesus also had many fantastic powers in his life
on earth with us and was able to show them to his followers and all
the disciples. Some Christians think that Jesus was empowered by God
and God's powers were given to Jesus through their love for one
another. Jesus' powers were very special as he had power over evil,
over nature, over death and he also had a remarkable healing power.
Jesus has been referred to in the Gospels as a man who had power over
nature, which is told to us in "The Calming of the Storm". When Jesus
and his disciples went fishing together Jesus fell asleep when a
terrible storm broke out, the disciples were very frightened and ran
to wake Jesus. He got up and told the wind and se...

"Jesus I am not worthy to be in your presence just give the word and
my servant will be well. I am also a man of great authority and I am
placed above soldiers in my command, I tell my slaves to do this and
they do it, I tell one soldier to go their and he does it." Jesus then
replied,
"I tell you, I have never found faith like this, not even in Israel."
Jesus proves to us in this gospel that he does not believe in any form
of discrimination and he is a true teacher of the people.
When Jews refer to Jesus as Lord I think they are expressing all their
ides of him into one important and powerful name. Jesus has proven to
be a teacher, a leader, powerful, almighty, a ruler, faithful and a
miracle worker. He is truly a man of the people and I think this is
the meaning of the name 'Lord'.
Gerhard Lohfink, in his book, “Jesus of Nazareth” believes that Jesus’ person and ministry are intertwined, or actually one and of the same. After Lohfink clarifies the difference between the "reign of God" as distinct from the “Kingdom of God,” he asserts that in Jesus, there is this active, ongoing reign which is not only revealed, but is manifested in all He says and does. Lohfink states, that Jesus is “not just preaching about the reign of God, but He is announcing it,” going on to indicating that Jesus is manifesting this reign in His own self disclosure and the actions of His ministry. Jesus ways of teaching and interactions with others, is shown as compassionate, gentle, direct and personal, as well as definitive and bold. As we also find in Ch. 3, “All that is happening before everyone’s eyes. The reign of God is breaking forth in the midst of the world and not only within people.” (51) And for Lohfink, this is taking place in the actual preaching, actions and life of Jesus Christ. Simply, we are personally and collectively and actively a part of establishing this “reign” right here, right now. A “reign” of mercy, compassion, forgiveness, self-giving, sacrificial love, as well as of justice and peace.

Jesus claimed to be the divine Son of God and settled His claims by living a sinless life, His death on the cross, and His resurrection. Jesus’ life was recorded in the four Gospels, and has been historically accurately proven and witnessed by first century writers. Since Jesus is God incarnate, anything opposing his teachings if false, because what He taught was true. The authority of both the Old and New Testaments have been declared. Jesus named the prophets and the canon of the Old Testament. Abel was named the first prophet in Genesis, and Zechariah the last prophet in 2 Chronicles. The Old Testament is referred to as the commands of God in Mark 7:8-9. Jesus made it clear throughout His ministry that His teachings corrections and actions were unchanging from the Old Testament. Jesus affirmed historical disputed stories of the Old Testament. He professes as true the accounts of Adam and Eve (Matthew 19:4-5), Noah and the Ark (Matthew 24:39), and many more. Jesus proved the Old Testament and promised the Holy Spirit would inspire the apostles in the preservation of His teaching and writing of the New Testament (John 14:25-26). The apostles displayed the authority of God through the wonders they performed as Jesus and the Prophets did before them. The book of Acts, also proven to be historically accurate record written by first century eyewitness, records the miracles of the

The distinguishing factor of a person who has power contrary to an individual, who has a purpose to lead, is the intent for their position as a leader. God knew that He would have to send Jesus to save mankind from sin. God reveals to Isaiah that he will send a Savior (Jesus Christ); When the people cry to the Lord for help against those who oppress them, he will send them a savior who will rescue them (Isaiah 19:20). Jesus did not try to gain many followers or become the most popular man in Israel, but instead He wanted to change the life of every person he encountered with or without gratitude or anything in return.
