In the story ‘’What Does Boys Will Be Boys Really Mean’’ the author makes interesting points about girls and women being used in disrespectful manners in media and boys wearing clothes with pimp labels on them. When I first heard the name of the story I thought the author was going to write about boys being dirty and being disrespectful and that is kind of what the story was about. Having the class not watch Family Guy was a smart idea because Family Guy isn’t for little kids. Family guy is about the Griffins, a family consisting of parents Peter and Lois their children Meg, Chris, and Stewie; and their talking pet dog Brian doing crazy things such as trying to kill one another and violent acts and the show is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane. Not all boys are irresponsible about sex and boys and girls face consequences about sex because of pregnancy and diseases. Also, not all boys take advantage of the motto “Boys will be bad” and act out on purpose, I myself never take advantage of the stereotype of boys will be boys, I act as good as a girl and respect everyone. I was confused about the video game with the women holding a gun, and the author said ‘’the ad implies that he’s just another low life guy who lives and breathes to ogle and grab every large breasted women he sees, myself being a gamer I never buy game products based on sexual content with women. “Boys” by Rick Moody summarizes the life journey of two stereotypical boys and how they gain power from the experiences they face. The boys face both positive experiences and tragedies that impacts their amount of power. In the short story, the author is conveying the idea that as the boys mature they obtain more power. In order to better understand the conflict, first we must define what conformity and self image are in the story “Boys and Girls”. Conformity is action in accordance with prevailing social standards, attitudes, and practices. In the time frame of the story, as well as through much of history, it was the social norm for women to be housemaids, and to rarely venture outside of the house to perform “man’s work”. The narrator however, has a different idea as to about how she wishes to live her life. She does not enjoy “work done in the kitchen” as she finds it tedious and “endless”. She does view the work of her father though as “ritualistically important” and far more interesting. Many video games portray women as objectified beings, purely used for sex appeal and to attract the larger male gamer population. We also see men idealised in a similar way as well – the males in video games are portrayed as muscly, brawny men. However, we rarely see a scantily clad man in a game, but there is a vast abundance of games which feature women wearing ‘sexy armour’, or a noticeable lack of substantial amount of clothing. This isn’t female-friendly as these games are made for men, causing women to feel alienated and uncomfortable.
