In Shakespeare play, Macbeth, it can be seen that the death of Duncan and Banquo have similarities, which can be seen through when they were committed and how it affected Macbeth. This can be seen through when Macbeth killed both Banquo and Duncan at night. By Macbeth killing both of them at night it shows that night signifies that something dark is coming, death. By Macbeth killing them at night it made it seem as if they were both safe but in reality, they were both unsafe and were soon meeting their deaths. In addition, the death of both the deaths of Duncan and Banquo had a similar effect or impact on Macbeth, by Macbeth starting to become mentally ill. The death of Duncan was originally planned by Lady Macbeth when she learned that Macbeth was going to become king because Lady Macbeth was questioning Macbeth's masculinity, while Macbeth was the one who planned the death and Banquo. This shows how Macbeth has grown to be more cruel after the killing of Duncan causing him to end up coming up with a plan to kill Banquo. This also shows how by Lady Macbeth coming up with Duncan’s death that Lady could be seen as more cruel than Macbeth but that later turn around throughout the play. In addition to the deaths of Duncan and Banquo being different, it can be seen that Macbeth views both death completely different, by when he kills Duncan he states, “ Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my hand” (II, ii, 61-62), and when Macbeth kills Banquo he starts to see the ghost of Banquo. This shows that by Macbeth saying that his hands will be stained with blood, after killing Duncan, shows how he thinks that since he has killed Duncan it will be a part of him forever, unlike what he thinks about the death of Banquo. Also by Macbeth only seeing Banquo’s ghost instead of Duncan’s shows how even though Macbeth was loyal to Duncan, Macbeth probably had a better connection with Banquo which ultimately affected him more than Duncan’s death.
