During Gerald Ford's presidency, he had some scandalous rumors between Nixon at the time. They were things that were not right before he came president. There were things that went wrong while he was running for president like the scandal of Watergate. It held many challenges and uncertainties. While Gerald Ford was taking the Oath the declared "Our long national nightmare is over”(Greene). With his simple statement, he has recognized the anguish caused by Watergate and he intended to lead the country forward to the future.

Ford have said that the only reason he pardons Nixon was because he knew that Nixon has already suffered in the prosecuted, and that he was a bad with healthier state of mind. Ford was hoping too that the pardon would bring some closure to the whole sordid affair. The polls have shown that they wanted Nixon punished, but the observer questioned Ford’s judgment in pardoning Nixon. The first press secretary resigned the protest over Ford’s decision. Ford had agreed to appear before the committee even though the White House didn’t support it. Ford had become the first president besides Abraham Lincoln to be testified before a congressional committee inquiry.
