Online education has been around since the 1990s and it is still running strong today because online classes have never been so amazing. Just with internet access and a running computer, most of the colleges will offer online courses. I personally believe that distant education is great but it all depends on the situation of the person. Some people may prefer online courses and other people will prefer in class. Online courses have a lot of benefits such as a cheaper tuition, studying from home, and everyone can save money. Online courses can be a great alternative and people can easily draw attention from its pros, but of course nothing on this earth is perfect so there will be some cons of taking online courses. Before the usage of online courses students had to physically attend classes. Some college students are busy with their lives because they have a family to take care of or they have to work to pay off their house bills. That means that some people might not have time for education even if they really need it, so that’s why online courses can be a life saver. Online courses since students do not have to physically be there they can just complete their college courses easily at home. Taking online courses is great because it has a flexible hours and the student can even do their work while they are at home. It helps a lot of students that have transportation problems, students with a family to take care of, or students with kids. The most demanding part on online courses is course and time commitments. Those two are very demanding for online courses because some students might not be capable of doing this that’s why some schools suggested taking a test for those who are worthy of taking online courses. Some students are asking is online class better than the physical classes? The answer is not necessarily. There are two different types of learning and one is the traditional class taught in a classroom and one is an online course getting thought through Blackboard. Former students are thought with the regular class basis or they will miss lecture, but in an online class there are no drawbacks in this situation because students can attend whenever they want and complete their homework in a certain date. The disadvantages of this are that students have too much freedom. By removing the sense that a student is inside class online courses tends to remove the fact that the student are under pressure. As a result some students will forget about their readings, and some might fail their quiz. The other difference between the tradition classes and online classes is that they are far less forgiving when it comes to
However, when a student takes an online class the student and professor are at a disadvantage of building an interpersonal relationship. For example, a professor is unable to read the nonverbal cues of a struggling student through a computer screen or is unable to tell if a student is experiencing a true emergency. Just as, a student is unable to read their professors nonverbal cues that a particular chapter or assignment is vital to passing the course. I have taken classes on campus and online classes for three semesters now and have learned that regardless of class format a student needs to be dedicated, structured, self-motivated and not afraid to ask questions. A disadvantage of taking an online class is if a web portal is not working properly.
In his article, “Can You Be Education from a Distance?”, James Barszcz effectively weighs the pros and cons of online education compared to the traditional method, while effectively supporting his position with factual information and statistics. While distance education proves to be convenient for students, Barszcz asserts that it eliminates valuable experiences necessary in order to get the most out of the material being learned.
There are many vast differences between online and traditional courses, first being flexibility in schedule. Traditional courses have a set time and day for the duration of the semester. Attending class is a portion of your grade. You have to make sure you have the time to attend class and not miss over the allotted amount of days. To help with the scheduling, the college usually offers day courses, night courses, and abbreviated summer classes. Traditional classes comes first on your priority list, work, and then lastly your family. Your free time is scheduled around your class schedule. Classes are 2-4 days a week depending on the schedule you choose. Even though it might be somewhat of an inconvenience, you have to keep in mind it is only for a short time and won’t last forever. All of your sacrifices will pay off in the long run; you will have a degree. The second area of contrast is discipline. Traditional classes, are more for the people who need structure to stay on course. Someone is there giving you daily assignments and s...
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
There are many advantages to online learning, it affects the way people can learn. According to “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students”, “students have a greater willingness to write or work on computational skills”. “They say student like the immediate results of having online learning.” Another advantage is that students can learn at their own pace. With learning at their own pace they will be able to actually know the information well. If, they are in a regular classroom setting they may no...
Most of the time, a student cannot learn at their own pace of the subject because the teacher has a schedule and other students so that student can easily fall behind or not feel as if they are learning. Also, if a student misses a class due to an illness or some other sort of reason they will get behind in classes, while with online class the student can still work while sick or the class will not move on without them. Some schools do not offer some classes that students wish to take. For example, some schools may not present a language class that the pupil wishes to take but online they have a better chance of being able to take that
Online Learning Students that study online learn by themselves in their own way. They have to complete the assignments and research on their own, forcing them to learn online. Learning may not be as satisfying as face-to-face learning but it has many pros than disadvantages. Online learning is better because you can have a better environment, it is also flexible, and the cost is less. One point in favor is that online education can offer us a good habitat to remain studying and upgrade our study.
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
It will be harder for students to develop their social skills since there is no face-to-face interaction with other people involved. Instructors will need to undergo retraining for them to be competent and it can be costly. It is also expensive to purchase the latest softwares or programs needed to provide online education. E-learning needs constant maintenance and updating as well to ensure that students are getting the latest information. It will also be a challenge for people who doesn 't have access to computers and are not computer literate. It will also be harder for the instructors to assess the performance of their students since they have no guarantee of who actually completed the exercises, home works, and
There are many negative and positves intakes about theses classes. Some of the positive reason that these class could benefit people are because some people have children or have busy work hour and will like to further their education. Another reason that distance learning is a good choice for people is because it works with flexible time periods and can work on your own pace. A negative reason for going to distance learning could be that one could feel as if they are isolated and not really communicating with much with your teachers and peers unless needed to.I belive that it all depends on how people take it because if they find a good one that will take credits torward their gpa they should go for
As the economy has changed in the last ten years so has the schools budgets and they are looking for ways to keep costs down. There is much evidence that distance education can be more cost effective than traditional education. Everyone can save a substantial amount of money by going with an online education because schools would not need facilities and equipment. Schools would also save money by not needing to provide services and programs to students. Students would save by not needing to drive to and from school, buy school supplies, and they can earn a degree in half the time than a traditional school setting.
In a busy world online education allows students to further their education to obtain more options. Online education allows students to have a job and obtain credits toward a degree. With concerns about the absence of teachers, technology assures students they can continue learning with teachers more accessible to the student. Attending college on the go is a common choice today with access to technology everywhere they go. Online education allows students to compete for higher pay jobs when graduated. This will maximize a higher educated population and this is necessary to keep America
The following article is a study on the effectiveness of online courses and their effectiveness in both teacher-guided assistance and non-guided learning. The author stated the problem of online learning for students, as being the distractions of the internet itself; online shopping, gaming and social networking. While two advantages of online learning includes the convenience of studying at a place of choice and independent work, students are challenged in staying focused or being disciplined enough to continue or even complete their course of studies.
Furthermore, some may suggest that online learning is benefiting our students in society. There has been a breakthrough in time and geographical limitations of education via online courses (Ho, 2009). Online education is cost-effective, efficient, and easily accessible (Schmeeckle, 2003). Online classes are used for individual and independent learning in which the student can learn at their own pace (Gonzalez, 2009). Not only is online education beneficial for breaking down barriers, online education has the potential to help students learn material more efficiently. Students are more likely to seek help from their instructors when the material is taught online (Whipp & Lorentz, 2009). Computer use in statistical classes could help decrease math anxiety (Gundy, Morton, Liu, & Kline, 2006). In a study that measured online students’ ability to achieve the same efficiency of course material as face-to-face students, at least 98% of students reported that they had, so one may be lead to believe that online learning is just as efficient as face-to-face courses (Liebowitz, 2003). With all of the positive aspects of online education, one may wonder why there is any debate as to whether or not online education is beneficial for
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt
