Michael Joseph Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. People around the world called him the king of pop. Michael Jackson made his first appearance in 1964 with his older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson Five. He later started his solo career in 1971 with Motown Records. Michael Jackson had many titles from singer, actor, composer to husband and father. He had a lot of ups and downs in his life that I will review in this paper.
Michael Jackson first major commercial was with Pepsi which he filmed January 1984. During a practice concert before a full house of fans, pyrotechnics accidentally set his hair on fire. This caused second degree burns to his scalp. The burns would later cause many issues in his life. Michael Jackson later signed a second agreement with Pepsi for a reported $10 million.
Jackson's skin had been a medium-brown color during his youth, but after the Pepsi incident it gradually grew paler. The change caused a lot of media coverage, including rumors that he might have been bleaching his skin. Later it was revealed that Michael

Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo in 1984; vitiligo can be white patches on the skin. Although Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo, many people believed that he had been skin bleaching. Later on Michael was diagnosed with lupus, and that while the vitiligo partially lightened Jackson's skin, the lupus was in remission. Both illnesses made Michael’s skin sensitive to sunlight. The treatments he used for his condition further lightened his skin, and, with the application of pancake makeup to even out blotches he would appear pale. In 1986, the tabloids ran a story claiming that he slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to slow the aging process. Michael Jackson told everyone that was not true. Michael Jackson was influenced by musicians like James Brown who was his greatest inspiration. He was also influenced by Diana Ross and Little Richard just to name a few. Michael Jackson went to owed his vocal technique in large part to Diana Ross. Not only was she a mother figure to him, she often observed his rehearsals and offered advise. Michael Jackson was also named the King of Music Videos. Before Thriller, he struggled to receive coverage on MTV because he was african american and the fan base for that station did not agree with the music style. In the 19-minute music video for Bad, he began using dance moves that know one had seen him use before and caused bad reviews. For the "Smooth Criminal" video, Jackson experimented with an gravity lean where he leans forward at a 45 degree angle. To do this move live, Michael and designers developed a special shoe that locks the performer's feet to the stage, allowing them to lean forward. When Michael Jackson died within 12 months he sold more than 8.2 million albums in the United States and 35 million albums worldwide, making him the best-selling albums artist of 2009.

Together they had nine children; Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, LaToya, Marlon, Randy, Michael, and Janet. His father was an aspiring guitarist, but had to give up his musical ambitions to provide for his family; however, he encouraged his children to take up music. Although Michael had no formal musical educational training, he gained experienced through the music group he had with his brothers, the Jackson 5. In the 1960s Joseph along with three of Michael’s older brothers, Jermaine, Tito, and Jackie, formed a musical group. When he and his brother, Marlon, joined the group it became the Jackson 5. Before signing to Motown Records, Jackson 5 toured around the Midwest, performing in a string of clubs and opening for the likes of The O’Jays, Etta James, and Gladys Knight. In 1968 the group was signed to one of the major record labels of the time, Motown Records, by its founder Berry Gordy. Jackson has spent almost his entire life as a public performer. He was the founder member of the Jackson Five at the age of four, soon becoming their lead vocalist and frontman. This implies Jackson has started his career at a very early age to gradually become one good public personality and famous. For this and for other reasons, he deserves praise and to be praised.
