When as I was a child back then, my authoritarian parents felt like they had to be in control for most, if not all the

time and had a set of rules that must be followed. The consequences of this were certainly not in my favor being a child. I had very little or no freedom at all, and just struggled with my social and emotional development as a whole (Chao 2001).
Those parents who approach their kids with the authoritative style, their kids tend to have a better social and emotional development growing up. Parents focus most on high levels of involvement and control of the child. Authoritative parents also set realistic expectations where the children understand that they have limits and fair consequences. The authoritative style is the most encouraged in modern American society. American children raised by authoritative parents tend to have a better social and emotional development; they have high self-esteem and social skills and work well with others.
