Alcohol and Drugs is a major problem in Australia, the effects not just on the user, but the community. Influencing criminal acts such as domestic violence, burglary, armed robberies and many more. Australians as young as 14 drink alcohol. The average age that Australian tried drugs used to be 17-18, but now is early teenagers such as 12-13 year olds. In 2010, 1 in 5 people who were at the age of 14 or over, drank alcohol at a level that would put them at risk of alcohol-related disease. As of 2010 the percentage of people being abused by someone under the influence of alcohol increased from 4.5% to 8.1%. Alcohol is the main cause of domestic violence. In Australia 73% of partner physical assault is caused by Alcohol and Women are more likely to report incidents of violence due to their male partner being drunk. Studies on Western Australia have shown; On average, 10 citizens of Western Australia die per week due to alcohol related problems. Around 3.1 Billion dollars is spent on alcohol or alcohol related services such as; road crashes, ambulances, police services and hospital fees. Western Australia has a massive problem with methamphetamine (Ice) and police have experienced 40.8% increase in amphetamine related arrests between 2013-14 and 2014-15. In 2014-15, 44% of Australians ages 18 years or older exceeded the limit of 4 standard drinks at least once in the year. In 2011 over 600 people died of accidental drug overdose. In 2016 drugs overtook alcohol as influences on family violence. Studies have shown that methamphetamine user are 1.6 times more likely to commit robbery, 1.8 times more likely to commit burglary, 2.1 times more likely to arm themselves with weapons and 1.5 times more likely to commit property offence than those not under the influence of
