The West Nile Virus is a flavivirus that is maintained in nature by way of an enzootic cycle involving birds and mosquitos. The birds act as amplifying hosts while the mosquitos serve as vectors for the virus. Birds that become infected and develop high levels of the virus in their blood pass the infection onto mosquitoes when bit. The infected mosquito will then infect more birds when they bite. When looking at this study, it is important to note that while the West Nile Virus has been detected in at least 326 bird species, this study will only examine 6. The prominent species to virus perpetuation in this geographic region appear to be the American Robin (avian species) and the Culex Pipiens (mosquito species). The main objective of this study was to investigate the immediate impacts that different environments had on the spreading of a vector-borne disease; specifically the West Nile Virus. To do so, they examined the distribution of competent and noncompetent species in two dynamically different locations. There is a widely accepted notion that the environment limits the geographic distribution of species because the distribution of a species is dependent on the environment. Urban residential areas reinforce random or regular distribution because they are fairly uniform, while wetlands foster clumped distribution patterns. By studying the interspecific populations in the different environments, researchers hypothesize that urban wetlands will decrease the risk for West Nile Virus and show a decrease in the community presence of competent mosquito and avian species. Based on their previous knowledge of the dilution effect, researchers expect that an increase in diversity will decrease the prevalence of the West Nile Virus. In contrast then, residential urban areas will favor the transmission of the West Nile Virus by supporting those species considered to be competent. They hope their data will provide evidence of a relationship between urban wetland patches and urban disease risk. The second is to bug, annoy, and make as many people mad as possible. The third is to reproduce and make as many babies as they can to carry on the family tradition. To make a parallel to this topic would like discussing telemarketers. Nearly every aspect of a mosquito has a direct connection to telemarketers such as their nearly countless numbers and their drive to topple the American will. Living in the world that consists of three thousand different types of mosquitoes is frightening. People got used to a daily routine of waking up and getting to their jobs, that many of them are so focused on their career and family that they do not even notice and pay much attention when they are getting bitten by mosquitoes. Unfortunately not many people were aware of the fact that not all insects are safe, many of mosquitoes transfer infections, but we were not concentrating on that since it was considered not a common issue. As a repercussion, people did not begin to react and notice that something wrong with them when Aedes mosquitoes began their attempt on ruining people’s social, physical and psychological lives by transferring a Zika virus to the once who are bitten.

The West Nile Virus first came to the U.S. public's attention following an outbreak in New York in August 1999 where eight patients has contracted ecephalitis from the virus. In the following four years the virus spread to almost all 48 contiguous states. In the United States cases were initially infrequent until 2002, when a massive outbreak occurred in the Mississippi River basin during August and September. As it has spread through the country, nearly 8,500 people have been diagnosed with the virus, which has lead to 189 deaths. Mosquitoes, fever and even death may be some of the things that come to mind when we're asked to think about West Nile Virus. Many of us would consider mosquitoes a small trade-off for what the summertime provides, but what if there were more at risk than a bump above your skin and an itch? In a not so distant past West Nile Virus ascended into news broadcasts all throughout the country and alarming it's residents. Today however, that all seems to be an afterthought. The intentions today are to cover the first found cases of West Nile Virus, the symptoms of West Nile Virus, and finally West Nile Virus' impact on the United States. Through the research here, the hope is that we can all have a better understanding of how West Nile Virus works.
The polio virus which causes poliomyelitis in humans is an enterovirus which belongs to the picornavirus (small, RNA) family. Polio virus is rapid, acid-resistant, stable, highly tissue specific and consists of a single-stranded, positive RNA. Polio virus is able to reside in the throat or intestinal tract of humans. Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious infectious disease which has three strains, poliovirus 1 (PV1), PV2 and PV3. Polio virus, although rare in developed countries, can be found in many under-developed countries due to the uncommonness of vaccinations there. Polio is known as a disease of development. The oldest known record of polio is in an Egyptian stone engraving of a young priest from 1350 B.C. with a withered leg, characteristic of a polio survivor. The Ebola Haemorrahagic Fever, or Ebola for short, was first recognized as a virus in 1967. The first breakout that caused the Ebola virus to be recognized was in Zaire with 318 people infected and 280 killed. There are five subtypes of the Ebola virus, but only four of them affect humans. There are the Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan, Ebola-Ivory Coast and the Ebola-Bundibugyo. The fifth one, the Ebola-Reston, only affects nonhuman primates. The Ebola-Zaire was recognized on August 26, 1976 with a 44 year old schoolteacher as the first reported case. The Ebola-Sudan virus was also recognized in 1976 and was thought to be that same as Ebola-Zaire and it is thought to have broken out in a cotton factory in the Sudan. The Ebola-Ivory Coast was first discovered in 1994 in chimpanzees in the Tia Forest in Africa. On November 24, 2007, the Ebola-Bundibugyo branch was discovered with an approximate total of 116 people infected in the first outbreak and 39 deaths. The Ebola-Reston is the only one of the five subtypes to not affect humans, only nonhuman primates. It first broke out in Reston, Virginia in 1989 among crab eating macaques.
