Four young girls that I babysit for, Mackenzie, Maggie, Meredith and Morgan, are sisters of varying ages and developmental levels. Mackenzie is eight years old, Maggie is six years old, Meredith is three years old and Morgan is sixteen months old. Each girl is at a different stage in cognitive, physical, mental, social and emotional development. I have babysat for the girls for four years now and was able to watch them grow and change in many different ways. Since they are from the same family, I was also able to see how nature and nurture played into their development. Different ages of children will be at a different stage of development and the four Weaver girls display it the different stages.
The oldest sister, Mackenzie is a very active, playful, intelligent and talkative young girl. Mackenzie appears to be tall, for an eight year old, with long legs and seemingly proportionate body. She has a much more mature face, less chubby and is more defined. She has lost several baby teeth and her adult teeth have grown in. Her physical development is right on target and continuing to develop.
Mackenzie’s cognitive skills are really good. Her mother homeschools the two older children, and Mackenzie retains a great majority of the information she is taught. There have been numerous times Mackenzie was able to teach me something new because she could remember the lesson her mom taught. She also has an exceptional vocabulary and can have very intelligent conversation. Mackenzie structures her sentences very well and understands certain aspects of grammar.

Meredith’s cognitive development is not nearly advanced as her two older sisters. Sometimes Meredith can recite a story to me about something that has happened, but most of the time she talks about things she likes. The vocabulary Meredith has consists of very simple words and she can form simple sentences. Meredith has a fairly decent memory and loves to tell people things her mother tries and teaches her.
Meredith has adequate social and emotional development. She is very shy and does not talk to many strangers. She is slowly becoming adapted to allowing strangers to comfort her and not always have her mother do so. She is starting to express her feelings and understand other people’s feelings. Meredith does not have a great sense of empathy yet. She throws many temper tantrums if things are not going her way.

This would be most beneficial for Molly and less stressful than her entering into a social interaction in which she may become frightened, one Molly is more comfortable the use of Social Stories can be started Social Stories are a frequently used strategy to teach social skills to children with ASD. Social Stories present social concepts and rules to children in the form of a brief story, and may be used to teach a number of social and behavioral concepts, such as initiating interactions, making transitions, playing a game, and going on a field trip. (Myles 213) Molly may have a social story that depicts initiating commination with her peers, she could enter in to a predetermined game that her peers are active in and the social story should depict the game rules, resulting in a positive social interaction with her peers.
The Child Development Center of College of San Mateo provides early care and educational programs for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. Children are divided into classrooms with a “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two or three “associate” teachers. Klara attended Classroom, “A,” a stimulating and well-resourced classroom. Klara was observed for two hours on Monday from 9 am to 11 am and for two hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. During these two hours, classroom activities consisted of “free time,” “story time,” and an outside “play time.” A “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two “associate” teachers were present during observations. Additionally, a total of eighteen children were in attendance during the observed days.

According to Jean Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, children go through four stages of development which are sensory motor, pre-operational, concrete- operational, and formal operations. The second stage, which is pre-operational is the age where preschool age students who are between the ages of two and a half to four years old start to develop a sense of self. Between two and a half and three is the age where children start to develop stereotypes associated with gender roles as well as views of how the world works around them. Children who are in the age range of two and a half and four that are enrolled in a child care program are being exposed to various views about what is acceptable behavior for their
I observed a 2 or 3 year old girl named Chloe at my job at the Poughkeepsie Development Center for about 20 minutes. Overall, her development seemed to be going on tract for her age group. She displayed aspects of cognitive, physical, social, and language development. I could compare her actions with several aspects we covered in class.
It seems like Katelyn is average on her developmental milestones. She showed her physical milestones through her different types of activities. I believe that she has fine motor skills because when she was 8 years old, she started to dance and gymnastics and played piano. The techniques became very exquisite when she became 10 years old, so she was advanced in dance. Her body also has shown the
Mia is a fun loving five year old girl that likes frozen and plays well with other children. She currently attends transitional kindergarten and looks forward to attending school every day. My observation of Mia took place at her grandma’s house and the store. During the observation, she would interact with her mother, aunt and mention her little sister. Mia social and emotional development still needs improvements when interacting with her parents and other caretakers but when interacting with her teacher and peers will behavior properly
All children have many characteristics that make them unique, yet they have a lot in common. All children have specialized needs at some point in their life. “When children have diverse needs, whether temporary or permanent, there is a danger of considering only how different those needs make them; educators may lose sight of how much they resemble other children. When that happens, the educator may forget these children have the same basic ...

I have had the luck of being the oldest of my mothers’ seven children, and the pleasure of having three of my own, and one step-son. I’ve spent a lot of time changing diapers, wiping noses, and kissing ouchies. I’ve carried babies on my hip that I’ve seen off to kindergarten, helped dressed for the first school dance, attended their graduation, and even been there when they have had their first baby. I have spent a lot of time analyzing their behavior, moods, or lack thereof. I’ve concluded that there are 4 types of children, I have been blessed with one of each. The 4 different types are: The Superstar, The Kool Kat, The Lil’ Mama or Little Man (depending on the sex of the child), and The Rebel.
The child that I selected to observe through the course of this semester is a Caucasian female. Her name is “R.” She was born on April 24, 2013. At this stage, she exhibits uncertainty with strangers and other people she recalls but has not physically seen in a period of time. Some of “R”'s favorite activities include tossing objects, mirroring actions and movements, music, a...
