When the term seasons come to mind, most people think of the four major weather seasons; summer, fall, winter, and spring. But, within these four, there are far more interesting seasons to notice and associate with that specific time of year. For example, the first part of the year tends to yield many blushing brides vowing to a lifelong commitment and friendship with their groom and therefore is considered wedding season. Similar seasons are wound throughout the year such as football season, engagement season, and swimsuit season, but the most wonderful time of the year is by far the holiday season. For many reasons, the holiday season, the time ranging from Thanksgiving to New Years, brings a feeling of togetherness and joy that simply is …show more content…
Holidays remind people of all of the things they are thankful for and often pushes them to give back to others, such as their community, family, or those who are less fortunate. It is not uncommon for people to be found spending days baking treats and creating handmade gifts to deliver to those they love. The snowball effect of giving to others and provoking them to spread that joy is enough to put the holiday season in a league of its own. Not only do families give to their loved ones, but many show their thanks by donating food and gifts to those who do not have access to as many amenities during the holiday season. No other time of year provides opportunities such as bellringing for the homeless or packaging small gifts for children whose families cannot afford to buy them the things they wish they could. The sense of community and importance of caring for others moves the holiday season into more than just another time of …show more content…
With so many treats being brought by one’s home and the parties with irresistible appetizers, holiday weight is a huge dilemma in the world. As one’s summer glow completely fades away and their pants become snugger, some experience panic and a feeling of resent for the holidays, but it truly is a blessing in disguise. The last holiday before people are forced to return to their normal lives and the holiday spirit is packaged back into the attic until the next year is New Years. This holiday is especially special because it comes with the opportunity for New Years resolutions and starting the next chapter of one’s life out the right way. The resulting holiday weight can promote people to take their resolution seriously and begin a workout routine to create a healthier
Antarctic’s ice melt and accelerating sea level rise, the growing number of large wildfires, intense heat wave shocks, severe drought and blizzards, disrupted and decreased food supply, and extreme storm events are increasing to happen in many areas world wide and these are just some of the consequences of global warming. The fossil fuel we burn for energy coal, natural gas, and oil plus the loss of forests due to disforestation, in the southern hemisphere are all contributors for climate change. In the past three decades, every single year was warmer then the previous year and the warmest 12 years were recorded since 1998. We are overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and trapping the heat and recently, the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere reached 400 pmm. Not just environmental issues are rising due to carbon dioxide increase but more and miscellaneous issues are appearing as climate change becomes more severe. For example, regional models and local analyses agree that Mongolia has become noticeably warmer and the climate change effect is damaging their millennial of historic nomadic lifestyle and even came to the peek of extinction. The Mongolian nomadic pastoralists became highly vulnerable to many an unusual climate impacts and extreme temperature fluctuation that have led to inadequate pasture land and loss of enormous number of livestock, often faces hostile environmental conditions that led o entrenched pastoral poverty. This essay focuses on how the climate change impacts the qualitative and quantitative value of indigenous culture and nomadic life style, and how the economy struggles in the magnitudes of massive migration of nomads to urban area while it fails to value t...
Over the course of recent history, much concern has been raised over the industrial revolution and the potential climate changes that it might be causing. It has been stated by global warming theorist that C02 emissions caused by human technologies are causing the world to warm, which will cause negative climate changes. The Earth may be experiencing a global warming trend and climate change; however, the process of climate change is outside of human control because human activity can barely account for any of the C02 level increases. Attempts to reduce human C02 emissions is needlessly expensive, and will have a negligible role in preventing or slowing any climatic changes such as global warming or an impending ice age. People must be prepared to adapt to the climatic changes that occur, because it is unlikely that human intervention will postpone them or limit the impact of their arrival.
Based on the impacts on a coastal location near point Barrow, Alaska which impacts to the ecological, heath, fresh water and societal life. Increasing temperatures in the next 25 years sea thawing permafrost coastal erosion flooding other climate change. Scientist predict that over the next century the temperature increase will be twice as much over the long term norm as it is now. Statewide average annual temperatures could rise from current levels by as 5 to 13 degrees, an average winter temperature could rise by as much as 22 degrees F in certain locations. Climate change is unavoidable, it’s already under way, and the observable effects are likely to increase with time. In the next century, predict changes of 3 to 10 degrees F. small changes in temperature will cause big changes to life on earth. With planning we can minimize the potential harm from coming changes and in some cases even find opportunities. Most planning for future climate change adaption is simply a matter of addressing current effects of weather extremes. The impacts of climate change are diverse, and vulnerabilities differ across regions and sectors.
Climate change, otherwise known as global warming, has grown more apparent in recent years, with increased natural disasters, significantly warmer temperatures and unreasonably long seasons. Global warming is one of the main concerns that scientists have been researching for the past century. Scientific evidence shows that global warming is caused by human behaviors. Due to the amount of human-induced carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that have been released into the air, the earth is becoming a highly poisonous place to live on. Earth’s climate has been constantly changing ever since the Industrial Revolution, when innovations began and factories were built, which emitted mass air pollution. As more technological advances continued the years after, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air also increased. According to the UPI Space Daily News, “Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) - the main cause of global warming - increased by 45% between 1990 and 2010, and reached an all-time high of 33 billion tonnes in 2010” (Writers 1). The 1900s through the 2000s is the time period in which humans caused the most air pollution by creating vehicles and other industrial machinery. In the contemporary time period, human activities that contribute to climate change consist of hydraulic fracturing, rice cultivation, the increase of fossil fuel burning, and the rise of deforestation.
Climate change occurs when there is a significant variance in the climate which last for several decades or longer and not for a short period of time. Climate change includes changes in elements such as temperature, precipitation and wind patterns.
Christmas used to be a time when families gathered and love enclosed each member. Meals and stories were shared and times were simpler. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Mass were special times for families to sit back in a pew and remember the true meaning of Christmas as carols were sung in the high choirs. This serenity and peace seems to be a thing of the past. Now, people are drowning in the pressure that Christmas is all about presents, and that unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning is what this joyous occasion is centered around. Another misconceived thought is that Christmas has to be bought and given away in order to have a good time. In 2010, a stunning “4.8 million people [found] time on Christmas Day to go online and shop.” On the contrary, only “4.5 million people who attend an Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Baptist or Pentecostal church,” was present in church on Christmas Day. The thought that shopping is more important than the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is appalling to Christians throughout the world.
Today it seems as though Christmas has fallen victim to materialism and commercialization. Rather than it being a time of loving and giving, it has become a stressful season of greed. Amidst all the hustle and bustle, it is important for us to recognize the true reason of the season, and celebrate in a fashion that exemplifies that reason.
Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all began eludes many people and very few studies have been completed on it. Even though some say that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly affect our market, I have found that people’s values, expectations and rituals related to holidays can cause an excessive amount of spending among our society. Most people are unaware that over the centuries holidays have become such a profitable time of year for industries that they now starting to promote gift ideas on an average of a month and a half ahead of actual holiday dates to meet consumer demands.
We, Aimee Johnson and Jessie Virnig, along with Amy Wilson and Shawn Klimek, decided to try to give the homeless a little hope. The week before Christmas we went door to door and collected food for the local homeless shelter. We decided to focus on collecting food because around the Christmas season, a lot of emphasis is put on toy drives and people sometimes overlook the fact that the homeless still need to eat. In order to broaden our research, we decided to collect food from more than one group of people. We went to an average middle class neighborhood and to a college dormitory. Before we went out into the neighborhood and dorms, we prepared a thank you letter to give to everyone explaining to them who we were, to tell them that we were collecting food for the homeles...
There are four different types of seasons. They are Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter. They each hold its own period in which they occur. Some days are long and some days are short depending on the season. Different weather, daylight hours, holidays, and different events are all events in which occur throughout the season. The events that can occur also depends on what’s the season. In each season, there are different activities that can be accomplished. For example, some seasons contain certain holidays that occur in them like Christmas, which only happens in the winter. There are a numerous amount of great activities to do during each season, but one specific season tops all of them. Out of all of the seasons, winter is the best season.
Today as I was getting ready to go out, I started debating whether I even wanted to go outside because it was so cold. I started to realize how difficult it would be for me to acclimate to such drastic change in weather. It's silly to think that that was the only thing that made me nervous about moving here, but Florida is so much warmer that it doesn't compare. I caught myself wishing for some of that Florida weather and couldn't imagine what I would do when it got colder than 45 degrees. However, once I opened my eyes to the reality that I actually hated the heavy humidity in the Florida air that made it difficult to breath at times and that there is a nice warm feeling that the winter brings around. I wasn't
Do you ever become sad, or have trouble sleeping, and focusing in the winter, but then when it starts to get warmer, and there is more sunlight you return to being in your usual state of mind? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of Seasonal Affective disorder, or SAD. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a form of depression that follows a seasonal pattern. It is thought to affect roughly six percent of Americans, and women are four times as likely to be affected as men. Symptoms of SAD include changes in sleeping patterns, general fatigue, loss of pleasure, difficulty focusing, weight gain and thoughts of death or suicide; all of these symptoms are very negative and hurtful to the afflicted persons.
If I had to choose my favorite season it would be a very difficult choice. All four seasons are unique in their own special way, such as the climate, scenery, and activities. Although I enjoy the warmer months of summer, I also enjoy the cooler months of winter. In a sense, I have narrowed my favorite seasons down to two; summer and winter.
Instead of just giving money or dropping off clothing items, Christmas Share allows volunteers to participate in wrapping the presents and donors to join the organization when distributing the presents. During the holiday seasons, one needs to be reminded that not all can enjoy Christmas by opening presents or spending the day with family. The program that has been presented is directed towards having a positive impact on the community. The program’s main goals are to unify a community, to help the children and families of a community, and to remind all to be thankful during the holidays.
In the statistical distribution of weather condition and its perfect pattern in an amount of time ranging from decades to centuries to millions of years, a substantial, long-lasting and drastic change is largely known as Climate change. It may be a change in more or fewer extreme weather events or in the distribution of weather more or less the average conditions or in average weather conditions. With the usage of theoretical models and observations methods, scientists, experts and specialists in this particular field actively works in order to perfectly understand past and future climate under certain situation and circumstances.
