Adverse think that respect is something that has to be given. Respect is not something that is always simply given, respect is something people have to earn. To understand the meaning of respect one must understand the origins to which it comes from, they will also need to understand the two main kinds of respect, the different uses of respect, and the importance of self-respect.
Respect is when you admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements. The word respect was used in the 1540’s, from middle French word respecter “look back at, regard, consider” and also directly from Latin word respectere (Douglas). The Latin version of respect (respectere) was literally an act of looking back or often at, and observing someone (Douglas). In the 1550’s the meaning changed to treating people with obedient regard or appreciation. To this day the meaning has not changed.

Recognition respect is according to the author “a natural desire to take something accordingly into detail in group discussions about action”, in short, it is a group of people being appraised as worthy of respect. (Dillon, 2006, page 441). Appraisal respect is about people, either as a personal role or for their ability and accomplishments. There is a diversity of way to use Recognition respect for example laws, opinions, nature, and people are some of many different forms of recognition respect. Respect is a such a simple concept and a virtue that should be simple to follow. It means treating other people and animals in a dignified manner. Respect doesn’t mean that people need to hug everyone they come across or hold their opinion higher than everyone elses. Respect means treating others as equals and acknowledging that as human
When I think of what respect means to me, my definition is: listening and being mindful of what someone is saying or doing. The dictionary on Google has respect listed as: “admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements” (Google). I have never associated with respect with admiring someone’s abilities, qualities, yet along their achievements. The two different mothers in the stories view respect differently as well.
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. It is important to be respectful for safety, to abide by the law, because children are influenced by their elders’ actions, and because God says so. Motivation from peers can help a person realize there is always room to improve the level of respect a person exhibits. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
This lack of respect comes forwards in ways of permission asking, and explaining how something works instead of letting the person learn on their own (Lee, 6-7). She has shown that there are many ways that other cultures have never had to deal with this social problem unlike the West has. Throughout her chapter she explains how the fundamental value in society should be the respect for the individual. This respect is shown through themes such as child rearing, leadership, and work. The basic resolution is to have respect for individual autonomy and therefore have respect for the individual in itself. She states, we can learn from all these other cultures that have individual integrity/autonomy as important parts within their cultures. Another basic resolution that Lee discussed was the way that respect must be kept throughout generations, as long as it keeps being passed down from parent to child, the respect will always remain in the
amount of respect that have for the codes of chivalry and honor, which is often rewarded in the
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
The Poem of the Cid is a story of a hero based in medieval Spain. During this time period much of everyday living was distinguished by honor roles. Throughout this paper I will write roles honor played in this society, and the effect it had on the expectations of men and women in medieval society. I will end with ways in bringing dishonor.
An example of this in adult nursing could be in a hospital, during personal care. If a patient is unable to complete their own personal care and hygiene due to physical difficulties, such as if they have suffered a stroke in the past, nurses will help them to complete the care. Respect is used by the nurses when carrying out this task by ensuring they are speaking kindly to the patient, ensuring they feel comfortable, and by receiving permission before performing any task. By gaining the patients permission, they will feel that they have a higher level of control of the care, will feel more respected, and they will begin to develop a trusting relationship with the nurses.
Respect: works constructively under stress and pressure, encourages others to express their views, even contrary ones, conveys trust in people’s competence to do their jobs, facilitates discussions to ensure that everyone’s viewpoint is heard.
In three seperate dictionaries, respect is defined as a regard for or appreciation of the worth or value of someone or something. In my opinion, respect goes far beyond this definition. Respect is the cornerstone of the society in which we live. Although many look at respect as simply treating another person or thing with kindness, this word has many different aspects. For instance, I would not give an elder the same type of respect that I would give my peers or myself. Respect is not considered a neccessity in this world but, I can’t imagine a person getting very far in life without this virtue.
My culture respects the people and the things that deserve it, but with that said, we also don’t give respect to the people who don’t deserve it. We don’t just respect anyone or anything neither, they have to earn that valuable thing that most people don’t have nor give anymore. This is probably one of the biggest differences between my culture and my society because in my society people don’t know the first thing about respect. The way i see it is that it really is a shame of how my society and these people that live in it can’t show even a little bit of respect for someone or something, big or small. Respect is one of the dying characteristics in this world and my culture has the last of it.
How would the world differ without respect? Respect is the act of showing someone that you value his or her feelings and thoughts. Respect is a universal value that each person desires not only to embody, but also to receive. Respect is not just what you say but also the way you act. Showing people that you take their feelings and thoughts into consideration are how to earn respect. If you demonstrate respect toward others, then others will respect you and listen to your opinions.

Lack of respect can be viewed in many different ways and it 's different for each individual. Lack of respect is to not respect a specific individual the way they should be. “ Shut Up mom I do what I want ” said my cousin Edwin. It is sometimes considered as disrespectful, which means to be insolent with someone in an act or be offensive towards them. Lack of respect comes from the word respectful and lack means to not give enough. You are not give enough respect to that specific person. When I was a child I didn 't know the exact meaning of lack of respect I just knew I needed to respect my parents and teachers in a rightful way, my parents helped control this by not giving me too much
Having respect as a personal value is of utmost importance for me. I like to be respected and so do others. However, I have to first respect myself before I can have respect for others.
