Water pollution is the spread of a deadly toxin that contains harmful chemicals. Water pollution has become a problem for states, countries, and continents. It is a world problem. It can turn the beautiful world into a dark, unfamiliar, revolting world. Water pollution is the spread of contamination through the bodies of water, the outcome of which is devastating. The major cause of water pollution are humans. It is a human problem because along with the rapid growth of the earth’s population, pollution also grows rapidly. Water pollution is spread through waste dumping from factories, trash dumping, and oil spills from careless oil. It seems easy for humans to get rid of trash and nuclear waste by dumping it into oceans, lakes, and rivers, …show more content…
Although it would not be seen, the ink would still remain, in a low concentration, making it impossible to be seen. Though a cup may not cause significant damage, but gallons of black ink poured into water everyday would be significant damage. Could one possibly imagine the drastic damages it would cause? When earth’s population was much smaller and pollution was not common, people believe pollution would not become a serious problem. They assumed the oceans were far too big to pollute, but they did not realize the serious severe damages it could cause to the environment. Unfortunately, throughout the years, water pollution has increased rapidly. The water supply, bodies of water, marine life, land animals, humans, and the environment are affect severely by water pollution. The deadly contaminating toxin is killing thousands of marine life, affecting water supply, sickening and killing humans, and destroying the outer beauty of oceans, and rivers. Water pollution is killing and destroying the world and is proving to be a threat to this …show more content…
The formation of the earth started off with making the bodies of water. Humans rely on water for survival. The human body is made up of seventy percent of water. It is reported that more than 1.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water; 2.6 billion has little or no sanitation, and millions of people die annually (3,900 children a day) from diseases transmitted through unsafe water or human excreta (Vasudevan, Subramanyan, and Mehmet). The consideration of water quality is often associated with the assessment of its possible use of drinking water source (Chen 5). Polluted waters contains bacteria that are harmful that causes diseases. Diseases that can cause serious sickness or death. According to J. H. Martin there was a study in Washington state university that shows that the environmental toxins exposure greatly impacts health. The effects can actually be pasted on to offspring for up to four generations. Increasing influxes of antrogenic chemicals into aquatic ecosystems has led to growing global concern surrounding human and ecosystem health (Luhman). Bacteria like Cholera, Amoebiasis, lead poising, etc. are diseases that come from water pollution, Cholrea and Amebiasis are the two most common. Cholrea is a small intestinal disease, and Amebiasis is an infection in the liver. The symptoms are vomiting,
Today pollution is very high in both inland and marine waters. All different types of water pollution are contributing factors in this problem. Here are some things that are associated with pollution: Pathogens: Pathogens are disease causing bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. They usually come from human sewage. As pathogen numbers increase, so does the risk of human health.
Water pollution is a very serious problem as it affects one of the most essential ingredients to our very livelihood. The earth is covered in water, in fact about 70% of the Earth is covered in water, only
'Water pollution is any chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of water that has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks or uses or lives(in) it. ' (Azeem 1). In Canada, most people live in the southern part along with many agricultural and industrial activities causing the worst cases of water pollution. Water pollution is caused by population growth and industrialization, but can be prevented if proper controls are taken into consideration to help reduce the discharge of waste materials. Water pollution has been a huge disadvantaging concern for humans as well as wildlife for over many decades, but can actually be prevented if attempted. Preventing waste materials from being dumped into lakes and rivers, controlling
The three characters each have different personalities, yet share the same goal: to find a suitable role model. Jim is a strong character who knows how to fight for himself and is valiant in his efforts to protect those he cares about, yet is also evidently lost when it comes to finding himself. His father is one of the few potential role models in his life, but his docility immediately turns Jim off. This lack of a proper role model is what ultimately leads Jim to get into trouble. Judy, on the other hand, is an even bigger victim of role confusion—with her friends, she tries to act strong and allows herself to get into trouble while with her family and, later, Jim, she is kind and unguarded. She is not lacking in a role model in the typical way, but is lacking in the love and affection she so desires. Judy works to grab her father’s attention by kissing him on the cheek, but he immediately scolds her for her actions. She starts to get herself into trouble after this occurrence, as she feels unloved. It is only when she receives Jim’s affections that she begins to let her guard down and feel more at ease with her place in the world. Finally, Plato exemplifies the most troubling traits of all the characters within the film. He is established as a quiet and timid individual, but he also exhibits sociopathic tendencies, as evidenced when he murders innocent puppies. When Plato first meets Jim—who ends up being the first person who is actually nice to him—he latches onto him almost immediately. He even regards Jim as his best friend even though they have not known each other for very long. Everything Plato does is to impress or help Jim, who he clearly idolizes throughout the entire movie—the end shooting scene occurs only because of his strong urge to protect his friend. Missing a true role model can cause an individual to essentially
Pollution comes in many forms. In the ocean we dump a variety of substances, including human wastes, chemicals from fertilizers, oil, and trash such as plastic which all contribute to the growing issue of our ocean pollution. In addition to, our usable waters are finite. More than 97.5 percent of the water on this planet is undrinkable salt water; the remaining 2.5 percent has two-thirds of the usable fresh water locked up in glaciers, snow, and permafrost. Of the one-third of freshwater that is available for human use, 20 percent is used for industrial use. (“Water Pollution”) “In effect, water pollution reduces the volume of water available for use by human and other populations.” (Robin Clarke, Jannet King) Knowing that there are approximately 7.2 billion people and growing on this planet with only 0.83 percent of available for our use wouldn’t you want to do everything possible to help put an end to water pollution? (worldometers)
There are many causes of water pollution, and the effects on the environment are directly related to the primary cause of the pollution. Therefore, each cause has to be examined for harmful effects. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration states nutrient pollution, "can lead to more serious problems such as low levels of oxygen dissolved in the water" (3). The dissolved oxygen levels being low lead to aquatic life dying. Nutrient pollution also can cause algae blooms which cause serious environmental problems affecting aquatic ecosystems, and which can cause dangerous health issues for animals and humans. Water pollution caused by sewage is an environmental problem. When sewage pollutes water it can be dangerous especially if it enters people 's source of drinking water as author Woodford states, "It is possible to catch illnesses such as hepatitis, typhoid, and cholera from river and sea water" (4). Chemical and radioactive runoff can be dangerous to humans as well. When water that is contaminated by chemicals is consumed by humans it can lead to sickness, paralysis or even death depending on the kind of chemical polluting the water and the concentration of the pollutant in the water. The Flint Crisis is an example of the damaging effect of chemical runoff, as the Flint communities ' water was contaminated by the lead pipes that carried the water resulting people in the affected communities ending up with lead poisoning. The environment and the animals are also impacted by chemical and radioactive runoff, increasing the death of organisms and decreasing biodiversity(3). Oil runoff water pollution is yet another example of water pollution. The effects oil runoff has on the environment are especially debilitating. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico for example, hurt not only aquatic life, but also land animals. The oil would get on to anything that touched the
Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects to the oceans ecosystem. People often underestimate the importance of the ocean. They don’t realize how much damage pollution has caused to the ocean and the thousand of creatures that inhabit it. Earth is a huge place, but resources are actually very limited and will not last forever; unless there is a balance. We must protect the resources we have in order for them to last into the next generation. Every time we throw away a plastic bottle, drive our cars, and even burn those millions of fossil fuels to operate all those huge factories, there is a chance it will pollute the ocean and eventually effect the way we live. There should be stricter laws regulating human pollution, in order to protect our oceans ecosystem.
In the United States, we take for granted the luxury of clean drinking water. There are many counties that yearn for the cleanly vital essential infrastructural nutrient that we in the United States and many other developed counties take for granted. According to water.org, a website and movement founded by actor Matt Damon, there are seven-hundred and eighty-three million people without clean drinking water in the world. Africa is the country with the highest need for clean water harnessing three-hundred and forty-five million by its lonesome. Asia is not far behind accounting for two-hundred million people in need of water. These statistics equate to a statistic that is even more alarming. 3.4 million people per year die from contaminated water. This is more than the amount of people that die due to war each year.
The consumption of contaminated water can be dangerous for health reasons and several people have passed away from these water-borne diseases. Some of these diseases include Cholera, Typhoid, Dysentery, Giardiasis, and Malaria. These unfortunate diseases are currently the cause of numerous deaths, especially in small children. The availability of clean water can prevent many problems in low-income communities. The available resources for clean water are very rare, so these water sources need to pass through a process of water sanitation in order to just be sustainable to drink, “The world’s surface is made up of approximately 80% water, which is an indestructible substance.
Wastewater is the combination of water-carried or liquid wastes starting in the sanitary conveniences of dwellings, industrial or commercial facilities. In addition to this, surface water, groundwater and storm water may also be present. It is any water that has been badly affected in quality by anthropogenic influence. It contains waste from residential, industrial and commercial processes. Municipal water contains industrial wastewater, sewage and gray water. Gray water is the water from sinks and showers. Large industries also produce wastewater.
Oroian, Viman Oana I. "Damaging Effects of Overall Water Pollution." BioFlux (2010): 113-15. Web. 16 Apr. 2014.
Because water can float and be carried by the wind, it can cause harm to unsuspecting creatures hundreds of feet from where it was originally dumped. Such waste includes bags, bottles, cups, straws, cup lids, utensils, six pack holders, cling wrap, fishing line, bait bags, and floats. The second highest cause of water pollution is ship waste. Ships used to take much garbage with them on their ships and dump them. This was very common until the government took action.
Water pollution is also a major thing in the world because almost 60% of it is fishes. It occurs due to several factors; the industrial waste dumped into the rivers and other water body’s cause am imbalance in the water leading to its severe contamination and deaths. And the infamous Global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases particularly CO2 is leading to global warming.
Are you aware of the detrimental impacts that we have had on our environment? Every second, the Earth is being polluted by poisonous gases, waste products and due to human activities, the world’s climate is dramatically changing. In other words, these impacts do not only harm our environment but also our health. It has been scientifically proven that air pollution causes respiratory diseases and cancer, due to the inhalation of all the harmful chemicals. Water pollution can also lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases and other waterborne disease, due to the intake of bacteria and parasites. Many people have died due to these health-related illnesses. So why are we still living in this awful condition? Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution. In short, we should protect our environment to ensure a healthy life a...
Water pollution is something that can be prevented; it is important to be aware of the causes of water pollution to keep the environment safe and clean for the many generations to come. Domestic households and industrial and agricultural practices often produce wastewater that can cause rivers and lakes to become polluted. This is typically called sewage and wastewater pollution. Sewage is a term for wastewater that usually contains feces, urine, and laundry waste. With there being billions of people on earth, treating sewage is a big priority.
