I am at a complete and utter loss. Water Buffalo is so strong, and yet he allows such a measly, mongrell order him around! Clearly, I am the dominant opponent to this “Man”, and yet Water Buffalo shows no respect for me at all. With my sharp fangs, and ginormous claws, and my beautiful golden coat, I am obviously better than him. What could Man possibly have that I lack? Man is just a scrawny creature lacking any fangs, or claws, and he most certainly does not have a beautiful golden coat.
One afternoon, I saw Water Buffalo working yet another day for this Man and when he was done, I walked up to him and asked, “Why do you work for such and insolent, weak being?” He responded by saying, “He may not be very strong physically, but what he does have, is wisdom, and you lack wisdom.” This rose the question in my mind that was, “What is wisdom? How did this useless nobody obtain such an apparently valuable thing being as weak as he is?” Undeniably perplexed by this fact, I made the plan to go up to the Man and demand that he gives it to me. Finally, I got the chance to put this into action when I spot him one hot, sunny day in a large green plain surrounded by creatures resembling small cotton balls.

Trotting triumphantly and confidently up to Man, I demanded that he hand over his wisdom to me.
Man told me that he would be willing to, but that he left it at his home. This rose a bit of suspicion in me, but I decided to ignore it. He started to walk off, but then stopped in his tracks, turned to me and said, “Tiger if you get hungry, I am afraid you will eat all of my sheep.” We then compromised that my tail would be tied to the tree so I wouldn't be able to get to them. Upon agreeing, and the man took off, but stopped yet again and asked if he could tie my entire body to the tree. His reasoning was that my brute strength could allow me to get out, but if my entire body was tied up, it would be very challenging. I agreed, of course, so he walked off yet
again. He had been taking a long time, and I finally got very hungry, so I decided to eat the sheep. I tried wiggling my way around, and tried to bust out, but I soon discovered that the sheep were all gone. A rush of anger pulsated through me and I ripped right through the ropes after continuous struggle. I had spent some time there, putting every ounce of strength in my body towards getting out. I realized that Man had tricked me, and was not coming back, and I felt famished, so I walked to the nearby watering hole. Anticipating the familiar baby blue water, surrounded by the calming fauna. Sluggishly pacing to the water, I noticed the others staring daggers into me, brushing it off as nothing I soon made it to my destination, only to discover that my reflection revealed that I was covered in black stripes. My most prized possession, my coat, had been ruined!Outrage, and embarrassment flooding through my mind, I hid. All I could do was to just hide and so I did, to make sure that one could see me.
For as long as we have known them, myths or cultural stories have had many lively adventures and meaningful morals told throughout them. The story “How Coyote Came by his Powers” from Coyote Tales (1933) uses the devices of personification and irony to communicate the theme of humility.
In Water for Elephants, the story is told through Jacob Jankowski at two different parts in his life: twenty-three year old Jacob who is out there exploring the world and, ninety-three year old Jacob who feels like he is wasting away his life in a nursing home. Water for Elephants is Gruen’s third book, it became one of the New York Times best sellers, it’s also available in forty-four different languages and it’s now a motion picture (Sara Gruen). Throughout the novel the reader is brought through both Jacob’s happy memories and ones that he wishes he could forget which shows its impact on the reader, a sense of catharsis and its social significance.
Most people know what wisdom is. On the other hand though, why is it valued so highly in western civilization? Wisdom is a building block of western civilization. Wisdom was valued even in ancient Greece. Socrates was known as the wise scholar. Wisdom has always been a trait that people have admired. Wisdom is admired because wisdom leads to make right choices in life. A wise person would know when to push their luck or when to back down. The complete understanding of a situation is a very desirable trait for all people.
"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Insead they put it on its stand, and its gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify the Father in
People believe that they are “wise” when they “know” something. A common member of society most often feels that knowledge enables people to feel powerful and misknowledge shows a certain weakness. Thurman explained, “Being right means that the world affirms us in what we think we know. ‘Knowing’ something is a way of controlling it, being able to put it in its proper place in relation to us so that we can use it effectively… So, knowledge is power, in the sense that it empowers us to act successfully. Misknowledge… is weakness, in the sense that our action may fail in their aim, backfire, or have unintended consequences. Knowledge is security, in that we know our vulnerabilities and can avoid harm. Misknowledge is danger, in that we don 't know what others might do to us or what traps may await us. We therefore feel powerful and secure when were right, weak and vulnerable when were wrong” (Thurman 446). Thurman took a distinctive approach and taught that not knowing meant obtaining freedom and achieving wisdom. Thurman taught, “… the Buddha discovered that this most certain knowledge of the ‘self’ is actually ‘misknowledge’—a fundamental misunderstanding, a delusion. And what 's more, he realized that this discovery was the key to liberation, the gateway to enlightenment” (Thurman 447). From a social standpoint, “wisdom” allows people to obtain a certain knowledge of themselves and in this way, acquire freedom. Once this “wisdom” is gained, one becomes selfless and allows him or her self to be a greater part of
As I was squatting there in my little ditch while the snow rose about another inch I barely heard the sound of my grandma’s voice yelling my name. The cat had heard it too and scurried away; even though the cat was running away I was still not able to move because my legs would not work and I heard the sound of crunching footsteps coming from behind me looking for me but, I was still so scared that I realized that I came close to a wild animal that could really hurt me even though I thought that no animal could come into my grandparent’s property with the six foot high fence that surrounded the ten
What does it mean to be wise? Webster's Dictionary defines the word "wise" as being "marked by deep understanding, keen discerment". Through the telling of the ancient Mariner's tale, the Wedding-Guest became sadder and wiser. He became sad in that he identified himself with the shallow and self-absorbed mariner. However, the mariner changed his ways. The Wedding-Guest became wise through realizing that he himself needed to alter his ways.
Sediment transport model plays an important part in the aquatic system as aquatic systems display slow recovery rates due to the continued presence of toxic substances. In a water column, toxic substances accumulate in the bottom sediments of aquatic systems. Depending on the chemical properties and hydraulic characteristics, sorption to biotic and abiotic suspended matter may occur, resulting in chemical settling from the water column and accumulating among bottom sediment. In addition, the effects of industrial contamination on aquatic life are a continuing concern of local, state, and federal agencies throughout the United States.
As humans we encounter wisdom on a daily basis. One can find it in anything and everything. Wisdom can be found in a person, a place, or even an experience. It can be found in the sky, in the leaves that sway with the wind, or in the oceans powerful tide. Wisdom is everywhere, but to experience the full affects of it, one must understand that these people, places, objects, and experiences need to become part of us. Without doing this we are only merely
Given a chance to know his whole life was an illusion and there's more than what meets the eye made the caveman curious to know if the shadows are any different to the clearer picture. Like a person is never perfect a person is never always right. When a Teacher teaches their student their method could be true but not right because there is more than one way to teach it. Being one track minded hinders the ability for a person to learn and understand to excel. Enlightening others comes from being open minded and acknowledging there is more than one right being able to face yourself and allowing yourself to take chance and risks regardless the outcome. What meaning could there be if you don’t defeat your pride by stepping into uncharted waters and saying “I stumbled I fell but this is the best part that got me there”. Giving ethical stories that will last you a lifetime and enlighten others around you because your forged conclusion does not have a lid on it. We can chose not to believe but always understand both
All of a sudden the floorboards cracked and the man chasing me had fallen through the floor. When I looked down all I saw was darkness, but that was when the lights in the hallway came on and the man had been impaled on one of the shattered floorboards. Only then had I realised that this entire time I had tears rolling down my face and I suddenly felt awfully sick in the stomach and my body felt saw. I needed to leave, I headed towards the staircase to make my way down, but as I did this, the front door slammed shut. A large man holding a butcher’s knife in both hands stood before me and the front door. They started walking up the stairs, I tried to move but I was stuck in a state of shock. When they reached me they raised the butcher’s knife to my throat and whispered in my ear “Tell anyone about this place and we’ll make money out of your body too”. I gulped, and tried to respond but I was frozen in fear. They walked past me, and once I had regained myself, I left through the front door. When I got home I took the bag off of my back and had a cigarette to recollect myself and started planning for when I would burn down the
I was snuggled up in my little house built in the mud until I heard something strange. It was a growl of some sort, but it wasn’t like anything I heard before. The growl started getting louder and closer, which freaked me out a lot. I know I wasn’t supposed to leave my pen, but I got scared and started to run. I kept running until I could barley see my pen then I decided that I was enough to stop. I stood in the middle of no where trying to catch my breath until I heard growling behind a bush. Slowly a dark figure came out and began to creep up on me. I could only see parts of the figure. I noticed his red, bloody beady eye, his arched body almost like he was ready to pounce at me and his sharp, dangerous teeth. “Hello? Is anyone there?” I said. No answer. ”My friends are just up that hill and they will be here any second!” I exclaimed. “You’re friends won’t help you now.” The figure said furiously. “And why is that?” I said. “Because I’m the one they are hiding from.” He said. “A-are you scar?” I said petrified. No answer. “HELP!” I screamed. He slowly got closer to me and I was cornered. He was way faster then me. More vicious. I had no chance against him. Scar tried to attack but Birch comes out and attack’s him. Nester comes out with a lantern they all notice he was not that scary he was this small wolf that looked very weak but he just tried to have to this big voice, and that’s why he only came out at night so they couldn’t see what he really looked like. All the animals started to laugh and Nester kicks him in the face and threatens him to never come back. They all feel relieved and now they know they are all safe. The farmer returns home, he went to check on all the animals to make sure they had food and water and to make sure they had no injuries. While the farmer was looking they all smiled at each other and realized they had nothing to be worried about anymore when Mr.
The common bottlenose dolphin is arguably the most popular species of the Delphinidae family. Because they are found in both temperate and tropical waters, they are the most studied species; a majority of our Physiology knowledge about Delphinids as a family is based on bottlenose dolphins (Cozzi 2016). Because of the wide variety of habitats and climates that bottlenose dolphins inhabit, there is a lot of debate about how many different species are encompassed under the Tursiops Truncatus classification. However, in 1998, Tursiops Aduncus, commonly known as the “Indian-Ocean bottlenose dolphins”, was recognized as a separate species (Rice 1998).
Within the frameworks of the concept of wisdom, the general consensus is all wise people are knowledgeable. And although the theory of wisdom and its’ components has been studied throughout history by many theorist and psychologists and from the many ideas put forth, it can be understood that wisdom cannot be taught. To be exact,
The important factor that created such a divergence through all the forms of sharks is how long they have been living on earth. With having over 400 000 million years to diverge from their ancestors, sharks now have such a diverse range of characteristics and abilities in order for them to survive. Sharks are also very geographically distributed around the world. This is due to living in the ocean which occupies 70% of the earths surface, (Ocean Service, 2013), thus giving sharks the ability to migrate globally. Furthermore, some sharks have the ability of living in fresh water, and not just in the ocean which also increases their global distribution. One example of a shark that is able to inhabit in fresh water is the bull shark, (Figure 7).
