It is expedient to review research based on construction waste management which will serve as an aid in piloting the proposed research.
Research by Akinkurolere and Franklin (2005) investigated the problems associated with waste management on construction sites in South Western Nigeria and to reveal the hazardous effect of material wastage on construction Industry. The use of questionnaire containing varied questions about material wastage and management was adopted. It was revealed from the investigation that wastage of construction bring about cost overrun leading marginal loss on the side of a contractor and that poor management is the cause of waste on construction sites. Recycling and reusing of construction materials were however recommended from the study.

Oladiran (2009) conducted a survey using a convenience-sampling technique to explore the application and effects of a Waste Management Plans on construction projects in Nigeria. The use of questionnaire was adopted and administered on construction professionals in construction companies in Lagos State, Nigeria to gather information for the study. Making use of descriptive and inferential statistical tools, it was deduced that Waste Management Plans were applied in Nigerian construction projects on an average level and the effects of a Waste Management Plans on, time, human resources and materials waste minimization are mostly average. However the survey showed that Waste Management Plans has a high effect on equipment and material waste. The use of Waste Management Plans by construction stakeholders and practitioners was therefore recommended for embarked projects.

Villoria et al (2013) based their research on construction and demolition waste management best practise in with the aim of assisting stakeholders in the industry. The research was carried out with the aid conducted survey among the construction practitioners in order to evaluate the effectiveness of 20 best practice measures regarding construction and demolition waste management. Furthermore, the most suitable types of building constructions to implement these practices were to be identified. Results of the study showed that the use of industrialized systems and the contract of suppliers managing the waste were among the highly effective best practices. It was also discovered that the act of distributing small containers in strategic area of work is another high valued practice, although only 36% of respondents adopts this practise.
