Washoe Lodge Scholarship As a student in the small town of Payette, Idaho, I have dreams of exploring what the rest of the world has to offer. There are so many amazing opportunities to be had in the great United States of America, and my life goal is to achieve my fullest potential by taking advantage of those same opportunities. Many of those opportunities though, do not come without a hefty price tag. My dream in life is to graduate from the University of Washington in the rapidly growing city of Seattle. The University of Washington is one of the highest ranked university in all of the world, and I was lucky enough to be admitted into this prestigious school. major, I will receive a top tier education that will lay the foundation for me to begin a hopefully successful life in my desired career field. The only limiting factor to me accomplishing that dream is the cost that comes along with the University of Washington. Due to me being an out of state student, I am required to pay a much higher tuition cost than people living in Washington. My estimated cost of attendance to attend is $52,000 per year, a financial burden that my family will not be able to overcome without getting some assistance from me. This scholarship would greatly help to reduce my cost of attendance. I believe that I deserve this scholarship because of the accomplishments I have achieved throughout my high school career, both scholastically and through extracurricular activities.
I have maintained a 4.35 weighted GPA throughout my four years at Payette High School, while taking and succeeding in the most challenging classes offered, such as Honors Calculus, D.C. Chemistry 111, D.C. English 4, and Physics. I have been awarded with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and Payette’s parade of champion honor all four years (For having above a 4.0 GPA). My proudest accomplishments though have come through my club, sport, and community service involvement. The activity that had the most impact on was participating in The American Legion Gem Boys State program over the summer of 2017. I learned a great amount about the procedures and role of politics in this country, and it spiked my interest in political science. I am the current Senior Class President of Payette High School, and have been in student council every year since 6th grade, and I am thankful that my classmates have trusted me enough over the years to elect me for this honor. I am involved with the Payette DECA chapter, which competes in competitions based around business management, finance, and marketing skills. I am the chapter treasurer, and have placed in the top seven at the state competition twice. I have also been involved in the clubs FFA and International club. I participate greatly in my
school’s sports team also. I have been a varsity tennis player since freshman year, and I was chosen by my teammates and the coach to be captain of the team my sophomore year, and have been a captain every year since. I also played on my the Payette High School basketball team, and in my junior year, I was the jv team captain, and my senior year, I was chosen to be a co-captain of the varsity team. I have also spent many hours involved in community service. The last two years, I have spent 10 hours a week during the spring, volunteering as the assistant tennis coach of the McCain Middle School tennis team. This has been an incredible experience, as I have been able to teach younger kids the sport I love. Over last summer, I also ran multiple tennis camps with two of my teammates. I have also done a book drive for the k-3 school, volunteered to plant bitterbrush for the local wildlife, and organize a winter clothing program for lower income families. I hope that I am chosen to be a recipient of this wonderful scholarship, and I ensure it will be used to allow me the great opportunity of attending the University of Washington.
I maintained an A average up until my eleventh grade year, by doing so, I was recognized as a member of the National Honors Society. This current year, I was recognized by Augusta University in receiving an award for academic achievement. The year of 2013 I was awarded the Most Valuable Cheerleader on the Washington Wilkes Football-Competitive cheerleading squad. As for leadership positions, I was elected 4-H president in the fifth grade and student council president my eleventh grade year.
As I reflect on my college life, I wonder about the choices I have made that have led me to where I am today and that will guide me into shaping who I long to become. The things I have had to sacrifice, the support and experiences I have had with family, friends, strangers and work colleagues. I don’t know what I will be doing three months or thirty years from now but I do know that I want to have new experiences. When I graduated from high school, I knew I didn’t want to be that person that moved back to the same town and stayed there for the rest of my life. I even contemplate leaving the United States in my adult life. Who really knows, maybe those cards are still in the deck. For now, I know my immediate goals include focusing on completing my college education the best I can, and moving away from my comfort zone, broadening my horizons and taken risks.
It is a tremendous honor to be considered for membership in the most prestigious Honor Society available at Wapato High School. It is even more grand to be able to work towards enrollment in the Society side by side with such an astoundingly gifted group of young men and women. I am only being considered for potential membership in the National Honors Society because I have demonstrated an exemplary academic attitude, and have proven this through the grades I have attained during the years I have spent in the Wapato School District and the fondness amongst my teachers I have achieved. There are also other characteristics besides good scholarship I must fill for membership in the Society, those being services I have done to benefit others in the community, leadership positions I have held, and an original and interesting demonstration of
Earlier this year, I was selected as my local chapter’s delegate to the American Legion Jersey Boys State. This was a new experience for me as this was the first time I was away from home with no one I knew. The main focus of that weeklong seminar was elections and although I knew I was competing against some of the best students in the state, I wanted to see what I could do. So I ran to be my floor’s ward leader, and won. Then I ran for my city council member, and won. Then I ran to by my county Vice-chair, and won. Then I ran to be my county senator, and lost. This was by far the most disappointing moment of the week. I had worked hard to climb up the mock political ladder and even had started imagining making it to the top. However, the
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul. Many soldiers are quitting Valley Forge and are sometimes called summer soldiers or sunshine patriots because they leave if it gets hard but returns when it gets easy. Valley Forge happened in the winter of 1777 to 1778. The camp was very close to starving. The camp was set up 18 miles outside of Philadelphia. The doctors used live chicken pox on healthy soldiers to try to get the body to reject the chicken pox symptoms. In 1773, 310 streetlights were installed in Boston. I have decided to not re-enlist for three reasons which are: sickness, the conditions, and the deaths.
The four pillars of the prestigious National Honor Society demonstrate the traits I hope to continually develop: as a scholar, a leader, a volunteer and a person of strong moral fiber. I believe myself to be mature and motivated; I have an unyielding commitment to scholarship and intend to make a difference in the lives of everyone around me. The prospect of becoming a member has prompted me to take a look upon what I wish to accomplish as a part of this organization. By becoming an active participant, my goal is to enrich my school experience by means of volunteering in the community, serving as a role model for my peers, and fostering pride for our school.
Being inducted into the National Honors Society is what I have been waiting for. Becoming a member is nothing more than a dream come true, and I appreciate it greatly. If I am to be chosen as a member I know that I will be a positive and dependable participant in society activities. Due to my abilities and past experiences, I can be considered a valuable candidate because I demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and character. I do feel that if I am chosen, I will do nothing detract from the prestige and respectability that is associated with the society.
Upon graduating high school, I plan on attending the great college of Texas A&M University, and major in Political Science to further my knowledge about our political system. I also will minor in International Affairs to further my knowledge about world affairs. While at Texas A&M, I plan to involve myself in programs and clubs where I can grow my network of people. To be better prepared to enter the political arena. Some of these clubs include the Young Republican Club, Ambassador for A&M University, and the world-renowned Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.
I am honored to be considered as an upcoming member of the National Honor Society. Being a dedicated honor roll student, I believe I would be a great fit for the program. Personally, no characteristics stands out more to me than hard work and dedication. Although I know I will never be flawless, I consider striving for perfection to be my greatest quality. Whether it be working on an athletic skill or endeavoring to get an A on my English paper, I always try my best and results show. Grades are and always will be my top priority and it is not uncommon for me to spend a copious amount of time studying or doing homework outside of school. Involvement wise, I’ve participated on the high school volleyball and soccer team throughout my high school
One of the reasons that the American Dream is still alive is that there are so many opportunities everyday. Most public schools provide students the necessities they need to succeed, so it is up to them whether or not one decides to use those necessities to achieve a goal. Most students in high school have an idea or dream of what they want their future to be like after high school. College is an example of an American Dream, where as student loans, scholarships, graduation coaches, and the ability to re-take the ACT are many opportunities to help one reach that goal. Some may choose to study abroad, which can be obtained affordably with getting a job or one c...
Generally, the clearest path to achieving the American Dream is through a college education. However, a college degree isn’t always a surefire way of achieving the Dream. In The Atlantic (Source E), Matthew O’Brien
First and foremost, I would like to say that it is a prominent honor to be a nominee for the National Honor Society. I am very appreciative in that I know this is a reward for all the hard work I have put in these past three years at Cliffside Park High School. I recall when I was an eighth grader I was confronted with a difficult decision; one that would determine where I would obtain the most crucial four years of education of my life. I was encouraged by my classmates and teachers to try out for the academies in the area. The academies are considered prestigious high schools and I rushed and scrambled to complete my application and obtain my recommendations. However, my guidance counselor pointed out something that made me think twice. He told me, “Where you go to school is not as important as you think. What are important are your willingness to excel and your commitment to learning and participating.” Until this day I still hold to my guidance counselor’s advice. I am proud and harbor no regrets whatsoever of the decision I made.
The National Honor Society would benefit from my membership in numerous ways. I have previous experience with the society with being a member of the NJHS in middle school. In addition to bringing a great GPA with my membership, I bring all of the other key elements that makes the NHS what it is today. I will benefit the club with my leadership skills, my character, and my volunteerism. As well as these pillars of NHS, the chapter will benefit from my time-management skills, my organization,
Although money isn’t everything, being financially secure is very important. Money can’t buy love or happiness, but it makes life easier knowing you have a house to go home to, food in your fridge, and clothes to put on your back. My family had a hard time when I was growing up with making ends meet and I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to keep that from happening to my future family. If I apply myself in college and strive for knowledge, I will have the potential to become very adept in my field which will help me achieve my goal of financial stability because I’ll be able to keep a job. I also hope for my future that I stay open to new experiences, whatever the world may throw at me. I want to be able to travel and see new cultures, societies, and people. Hand-in-hand with traveling, I would love to volunteer all over the world, as well. I take great pride in doing volunteer work and it would be an enlightening experience to be able to help out around the world. Something else I am passionate about is music. I hope that I have the time and ability to continue on with my music career as my life progresses. Doing bands and music things at UWEC will help me to achieve this goal because I will learn immensely under great instruction. Going to UW Eau Claire will aid me in reaching all of these goals I have set myself. I am excited to see what my future holds for me
