The Origin of Washington Nationals Washington Nationals is a baseball team based in Washington D.C, but they were originally from Montreal, Canada and they were known as Montreal Expos. However, the Expos moved to Washington D.C and become the Nationals in 2005. This means the Nationals were from outside of the United States. The Nationals had number of reactions when they decide to move to Washington D.C. Either by citizens of Washington D.C or politicians had some sort of reaction toward the Nationals. Then history of the Nationals began in 2005 and it seems interesting to research about history of the Nationals after they move to Washington D.C, and also about the Nationals. their city although technically it is migration of the Montreal Expos. Montreal Expos was closed and evicted from Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2004 due to bankruptcy.
After their vanishing from MLB, Expos decided to migrate to Washington D.C and change their name to Washington Nationals. Also, Washington D.C didn’t have a baseball team in their city for significant amount of time. According to Washington Post article written by David Von Drehle explains about the last time when Washington D.C had their baseball team, “On September 30, 1971, 14,460 fans shuffled into Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium to bear witness to the end of the pastime in the nation's capital.” The last team that played in Washington D.C was called Washington Senators. After 1971, Washington D.C didn’t have their baseball team until 2005. Then the Expos’ fate was decided to migrate to Washington D.C after …show more content…
2004. In addition, after Expos’ decision; Washington D.C finally has their baseball team and they will participate in MLB again. Reaction from Washington D.C was various. One of the biggest concerns that Washington D.C had to face was financial issue that the Expos had. On the other hand, politicians of Washington D.C tried their best to bring baseball team to Washington D.C again. There is an article written by Stefan Fatis from Wall Street Journal reports about efforts of politicians of Washington D.C. Also, the article stated that politicians of Washington D.C tried to be careful to approach about the Nationals. Especially, financial issue was the biggest issue that the Nationals that were formally known as the Expos. Fatsis reports, “That question frames a local battle that is jeopardizing Washington's plans to host the franchise starting next season. In September, Mayor Anthony A. Williams signed an agreement with MLB calling for the city to pay the bulk of the costs of a new stadium, estimated at $440 million to $584 million.” This showed that Washington D.C was worrying about finance that they have to deal with after migration of the Nationals. Although politicians wanted to have baseball team in the city but financial issue couldn’t be ignored. Also if Washington D.C fails to maintain baseball team like Montreal did, it would’ve been embarrassment for the city and politicians will have to deal with it. Baseball fans in Washington D.C were mostly positive about returning of baseball in Washington D.C. Fans in Washington D.C definitely wants to have baseball team they can cheer for. Their reaction about the Nationals was tremendous about the new baseball team they will get. Prince Albert Daily Herald described how baseball fans of Washington D.C felt about baseball as wait of 34 years for baseball team. Also, people of Washington D.C identify the Nationals as their own team instead of the Montreal Expos with different name. According to Frank Robinson who was a manager of the Nationals, “I've heard people say this is the Montreal Expos in Washington Nationals uniforms. Those people don't know what they're talking about. They are not the Montreal Expos in Washington Nationals uniforms. They are the Washington Nationals.” This means that baseball fans of the Nationals gladly accepted the Nationals as their team even though originally was known as the Montreal Expos. This showed that people of Washington D.C were positive toward come back of baseball team to their city. Return of baseball to Washington D.C seems got positive reaction from the city.
Since 1971, baseball fans of Washington D.C suffered the loss of their team. It was explained in Von Drehle’s article, “But the fans had a different mojo working that night. The city was tired of losing graciously -- losing games, losing seasons, losing franchises.” This showed how fans saw their loss of baseball team of Washington D.C, which was sad and bitter. Then return of baseball in Washington D.C made fans excited for their new start. It was reported as, “It was an all-day party amid cheers, chants and popping flashbulbs, highlighted by President George W.
Bush's zinger of a first pitch and old-timers yielding the field to Washington's new team.” Also mentioned by Prince Albert Daily Herald, “The Washington Nationals' home opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks was a joyous exclamation point for celebrations that began 6 fi months ago with the announcement that the Montreal Expos were heading south.” This statement showed how baseball fans of Washington D.C saw return of baseball in their city and they were happily accepted the new Nationals as their home team. Fresh start of the Nationals seems interesting to see by some fans that weren’t from Washington D.C. Particularly about the fact that the Nationals were formally known as the Expos. Interviewed a citizen of Northern Virginia but wasn’t from Washington D.C and he witnessed the return of baseball in Washington D.C. He said, “It was fascinating to see baseball fans of Washington D.C were willing to adapt the Expos to their home team and also it was very new to see. Also it was surprising to witness how quickly the Nationals become a symbol of Washington D.C.” This showed that fans of Washington D.C were thirst to show their spirit toward their home team. Finally, history of the Washington Nationals was interesting case of how baseball teams view their team. Even though the Nationals were the Expos before but they are willing to accept them as their team; even they were from other country which was Canada. It could teach about how America is willing to give an opportunity to those who seek. The Nationals is a great to example to learn about America as the land of opportunity.
On July 27 1959, A new York attorney named William shea had an idea of putting a new baseball team in new York since the dodgers and giants had left for california. So on march 1st 1961 His wish was granted. The new York metropolitan baseball club or “the new York mets” were introduced into the national league. The name of the team was chosen by owner Joan Payson. The other names that were put into thought were the rebels, skyliners, nybs and avengers just to name a few.On April 11,1962 the mets played their first game in franchise history and lost 11-4 to the St Louis cardinals. The first season was a miserable one.Manager Casey Stengel led the mets to a 62-100 record,The worst record in major league history. After a couple of more losing seasons, The mets finally made a move and signed pitcher Tom “the franchise”Seaver, one of the best pitchers who ever played the game. They also picked up power hitting outfielders Donn Clendenon and Tommie Agee. Finally the mets looked like a baseball team.Entering the 1969 season, my father said the mets wewr 160-1 to win the World Series, but the mets shocked everyone winning the national league championship. Now, this is how the mets won their first world series, The batter was cleon Jones, after striking out manager Gil Hodges notices a black mark on the ball. The black mark was shoe polish. Putting shoe polish on the ball makes it spin more and makes it much easier to strike out a batter.
The Atlanta Braves is the longest operating franchise in the history of all professional sport leagues in America. They are the only organization to field a team every year that professional baseball has been in existence (“Story of the Braves”). The organization begin in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings and overtime changed the name several more times before landing on what we know today as the Atlanta Braves. Baseball is one of the world's greatest sports and is played almost everywhere in the world. It is also one of the most historic games. The main historic part of baseball deals with the ballparks, the cities, and the teams that have been around for such a long time. Then you have the one and only Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Fenway Park is the longest standing and is still being used of all the Major League ballparks in the United States. Throughout the 100 years of Fenway Park's existence it has been built, named, burned down, rebuilt, and a whole lot of adding on to the ballpark.

Baseball was popular the most sport in 1919; players were seen as heroes and celebrities. At this time the players were payed very low wages and the owners of the team made huge profit. Because of this many players were into scams that involved them losing games on purpose. During that time of baseball, players didn’t make as much as they do today.Players would be offered large amount of money that would multiply to several times their salary.

The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966. The Braves didn’t have the best teams from 1966-1990, no World Series titles, just not up to where they had been in earlier years. In 1990 the braves had the worst record in baseball, and then in 1991, they went from worst to first, and went to the World Series. They went again in 1992, but unfortunately, they lost both times. However, in 1995 the Braves went to the Championship of baseball once again, they represented the National League, and the Cleveland Indians represented the American League. The Series went six games, and in game six the Braves won, beating the Indians, one to nothing, and winning the World Series.
With about 83 players currently to in the MLB, 682 players since 1950, and so far 2 players in the Hall of Fame with much more to get inducted, it’s clear that the Dominican Republic dominates the game of baseball. In the Dominican Republic, baseball is the country’s pastime and official sport. Baseball doesn’t discriminate, regardless of gender, race, and economic status. In my personal view, baseball runs in the blood and embedded in the genetic coding of Dominicans. As a person whose mother and father are Dominican and born and raised in Miami, there seems to be little to nothing that connects me to their culture.

Chicago Cubs baseball goes all the way back to April 25th, 1876 when they played the first game in the history of the Chicago National League Ball Club. However; at the time, they were not known as the “Cubs.” In general, they were known as the “White Stockings.” But a select few referred to them as the “Colts,” or “Orphans.” The team played in only five different locations in the 1800s because of the lack of places to play baseball at the time. As years went by, the league became popular, becoming one of the sports first dynasties. Chicago won six of the first eleven inaugural National League Championships (Cubs Timeline). In 1902, Frank Selee began managing Chicago to debut his managerial career. Just like managers, the name changed as well. A local newspaper penned the nickname “Cubs” for the first time. The name grew on people over time and was officially adopted in 1907. The year after that, victory arose in the city of Chicago. The season was filled with some of the greatest old-time baseball players. The batting line-up consisted of many good hitters and not jus...

Finally, baseball fans are insanely loyal to the team of their choice. Should the home team's players lose eight in a row, their fans may begin to call them "bums." They may even suggest that the slumping cleanup hitter be sent to the minors or the manager fired. However, such reactions only hide their broken hearts. They still check the sports pages and tune in to get the score. Furthermore, this intense loyalty can make fans dangerous, for anyone who dares to say to a loyal fan that some other team has sharper fielding or a better attitude could risk permanent, physical harm.
