“War may well be the worst way imaginable to create larger, more peaceful societies, but the depressing fact is that it is pretty much the only way” (Morris 1). To elaborate, war sadly is the only method that works, even though that a lot of things happen that are unfortunate. Some examples of war being necessary are The Revolutionary War, World War II, and The French and Indian War.
The Revolutionary War is a prime example that war is necessary. The British had been unnecessarily taxing the colonists. “After a two-year boycott of British goods tension was in the air”(The Revolutionary War 1). The Revolutionary War was necessary because the colonists needed to separate themselves from these unfair taxes. The colonists tried to peacefully convince

the British to not tax them but the British would not treason. The colonists were forced to go to war because of this reason.
Furthermore, the colonists were forced to go to war, so the war was necessary. The Boston massacre was the event to spark the Revolutionary War. “But on the same day a brawl took place between citizens of Boston and British troops. The troops were fired on the unruly mob and three people were instantly killed and two morally wounded”(The Revolutionary War 1). The Boston Massacre was the event that sparked the Revolutionary War. This was necessary because it was crucial in galvanizing colonial society against the British. The colonists end up rebelling against the British. Above all, the Boston Massacre was necessary because it ended relationship between the British and the colonists. Paul Revere’s ride is also a good example for why The Revolutionary War was necessary. “Thomas Gage sent redcoats to take control of munitions at Concord and arrest radical leaders, but they had been forewarned by Paul Revere’s famous ride and the call that “The British are coming!””(The Revolutionary …show more content…
War 1). If Paul Revere would have failed to warn the people about the British, it could have been the end for the French. Although, Paul Revere died the information was worth his death. This ride was necessary because it helped the French stay in/ have a fighting chance in the war. Finally, the Revolutionary War was necessary for the colonists to separate themselves from the British. The French and Indian War is also a prime example of why war is necessary.
The British decided that they were sick of the French. “British resolved to completely remove France from the continent”(British End French Dominance of America during French and Indian War 1). After the British had made this decision, it fueled the fire of the war. This shows that the French and Indian War was necessary because the French had to defend themselves against the British. If the British would have tried to settle the feud non-violently, the French would of had to retaliate. Therefore, this shows how the French and Indian War is necessary. The British decide to steal the Natives from the French. “Because British trade goods were cheaper and better made than those the French offered, many Native Americans - including the Wyandot chief Memeskia, the Shawnee, and the Delaware, chose to break with the French and establish links with the English instead”(Carson and Bonk 1). The British came into French territory and stole their connections with the Natives. The war is necessary because France needed to trade for supplies to survive. The British could have split the connections. Moreover, the war was necessary because the French needed to fight for themselves. The British also had to defend themselves against different countries. “Britain had to fight for control of American territory with countries such as Spain and Denmark”(Gale Student Resources in Context 1). If the British would have lost
the fights they probably would of had to leave the Americas. That’s why the war was necessary, the British had no choice. All in All, the French and Indian War was necessary. On the other hand, some people might say that war is necessary. This point of view makes sense because war can cause a lot of death and destruction. However, if it wasn’t for war, Americans wouldn’t have rights and freedoms that they do now. Therefor, war is necessary. World War II is also a good example of why war is necessary. “World War II began on September 1,1939 when 1.5 million German troops invaded poland”(Carson and Bonk 1). Nearly three million people were killed in the invasion. Although people were killed, this was a necessary battle because the Polish needed to defend themselves. This invasion proves that war is necessary. In the end, this fight was necessary for Poland. Britain also gave Germany a defeat. “Aided by the development of radar, Britain handed Germany it’s first significant defeat of the war, forcing Hitler to indefinitely postpone a land invasion of England”(World War II 1). This land invasion could of been very bad for England. It was necessary because England had to defend themselves against Germany. If they could've left it to smaller countries it could've been detrimental for the world. In conclusion, it might be upsetting, but war is necessary. Still, war sadly has proven in the past that it’s the only method that works. And it’s unfortunate, the things that happen during war. The Revolutionary War, World War II, and The French and Indian War are all examples that war is necessary. We might all hate it, but we cant get rid of it. War, it never changes.
The colonists were in every right, aspect and mind, not only justified but also it was about time that they stood of and actually take action against the British. The choice of going to war with them, was the only choice that they had. All diplimatical options that they had ceased to stand a chance against the tyrant Britain. From the very beginning when the colonists felt upset against their mother country and the way that they went about the law making, up until the beginning of the war, they tried all diplimatical options that they had, by sending letters, you name it. When they didn’t work then they had no other means but to declare war.
In the novel, My Brother Sam is Dead, by James and Christopher Collier, they teach that there are many other ways to solve conflict besides war. War is violent, disgusting, and gruesome and so many people die in war. Families separate in war because of how many people want to be in the thrill of the war and also how many innocent family members die in the midst of war. Lastly, war is worthless and it was caused by a disagreement over something little and the outcome of war is not worth the many lives, time, and money and there are other ways to solve conflict besides to fight. War causes so many negative outcomes on this world that it needs to be avoided at all costs.
The French and Indian War (1754-63) altered the political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies. It changed the political relationship between England and its colonists because the English forced taxes on the colonies, due to their economical struggles, and impose regulations on colonial life. Ideologically, the war brought up feelings of anger from the colonies toward Britain
After the French Indian War ended, the Britain was in debt, and they also wanted to have more control of the colonies, and the colonists. They passed different acts and procedures in order to collect money, and hold the control of the colonists, and the colonies. Yet the colonists were not given any representation, and they were losing their freedoms one by one; these caused a serious tension between Britain and the colonies, which eventually lead to the American revolution, followed by the Declaration of Independence. The colonies were justified for declaring independence from England, because the king of England caused “repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over the states”("The
Another reason the Colonists were justified in waging war was because of the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre occurred on the evening of March 5, 1770. A crowd of people began harassing the soldiers. One event led to another and the crowd began hurling snowballs and rocks. One of the snowballs struck a soldier and he fired his weapon, causing a series of shots toward the crowd.
From 1754 to 1763, the French and Indian War took place. This war altered the political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies. It was the last of four North American wars waged from 1689 to 1763 between the British and the French. In these struggles, each country fought for control of the continent with the assistance of Native American and colonial allies. The French and Indian War occurred to end the land dispute between the British and French. Whoever won, in reality, gained an empire. It was a determined and eventually successful attempt by the British to get a dominant position in North America, the West Indies, and the subcontinent of India. Although Britain had won all this land, political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies were totally annihilated.
The French and Indian war took place between 1754 and 1763. Here between these nine years would serve as the blue print to America’s history and future. “What began as a struggle over territorial rights between British colonist and French settlers became part of an international war between the great powers” (Schwartz, 1). To truly understand the French and Indian war, many must take a look into the past events that caused the dispute between the British and the French. During the year 1498, the British claims to the continent were based on the London Company and the sailing of the waters under the rule of King James I. This is where the British company in the latter half of the seventeenth century, under the crown established a reign or province, extending from seas to sea.
War is a hard thing to describe. It has benefits that can only be reaped through its respective means. Means that, while necessary, are harsh and unforgiving. William James, the author of “The Moral Equivalent of War”, speaks only of the benefits to be had and not of the horrors and sacrifices found in the turbulent times of war. James bears the title of a pacifist, but he heralds war as a necessity for society to exist. In the end of his article, James presents a “war against nature” that would, in his opinion, stand in war’s stead in bringing the proper characteristics to our people. However, my stance is that of opposition to James and his views. I believe that war, while beneficial in various ways, is unnecessary and should be avoided at all costs.
In 1754-1763 The French and Indian war was fought between France and Great Britain. The war began when the British wanted to settle in the Ohio River Valley in order to trade with the Native Americans but the french had already developed forts to protect their trade with the natives, The British was defeated and so they declared war on France. The conflicts of the French and Indian war altered the relationship of Great Britain and its American colonies from at first growing together as one to then separating because of conflicts of Independence.
The Boston Massacre is considered by many historians to be the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The fatal incident happened on March 5 of 1770. The massacre resulted in the death of five colonists. British troops in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were there to stop demonstrations against the Townshend Acts and keep order, but instead they provoked outrage. The British soldiers and citizens brawled in streets and fought in bars. “The citizens viewed the British soldiers as potential oppressors, competitors for jobs, and a treat to social mores'; (Mahin 1). A defiant anti-British fever was lingering among the townspeople.
The American Revolutionary War was a very significant time period for the History of the United States. The colonies were ruled by the British Parliament and they began feeling as if they were being mistreated as they were forced to pay unfair taxes and their power as a whole was being very limited. Evidently they wanted to gain independence from the British. At first they attempted to take a non-violent stance and reason with the British government, but the British were reluctant to do so. As a result the American Colonist over time resulted in declaring war against them in 1775. Whether this war was inevitable or not has been debated for many years now; however the war was inevitable due to the fact that the American Colonist attempted to reason with the British Parliament to begin with but was quickly turned down. The word “Inevitable” means certain to happen or unavoidable. This means the question is asking whether the American Revolution was avoidable or not and although the question is very arguable and there is evidence to support both sides there is more evidence supporting the fact that the war was inevitable.
The Boston Massacre was a critical point in American history and fueled the American Revolution. It caused the Royal Governor to evacuate the occupying British troops from Boston. The Boston Massacre united the colonies in their fight for independence which, along with continued propaganda, led to the Revolutionary War.
The French and Indian War or the Seven Years War was one of the major events that led to the American Revolution. The French and Indian War started in 1754 when George Washington and General Edward Braddock tried to defend the British land that they felt the French were taking with their expansion into the Ohio River valley. In 1755 Governor William Shirley of Massachusetts had many French settlers in the Nova Scotia region moved from that region to avoid any confrontation if these settlers sided with their home country. These people were exiled from their home and moved into British colonies in a very cruel and violent fashion. This is one of the first examples of Britain’s oppressive nature towards people they consider a threat to what they feel is the best solution. The British military effort, at this time, was not as impassioned or successful. Both George Washington and General Braddock suffered major defeats at the hands of the French and their allies, General Braddock was even killed in one of the early battles before this war was officially started. It was not until later in the war that the British were able to successfully defeat the French. The war officially began in 1756 and ended in 1763 but this war is far less important than the major event it caused. More than anything this war was the first step to the American Revolution.
...ent was a fight between three nations, and until the late 18th century it was not at all certain which one would win. The Indians, especially the Five nations of the Iroquois, were exceptionally good at playing the French and the English against each other in order to maximize their own benefits. The French and Indian War was a guerrilla war of small skirmishes and surprise attacks. The terrain was unfamiliar to both the French and the English; the involvement of the Indian nations as allies in battle made an enormous difference. In fact, some historians have hypothesized that the turning point in the war came when many of the Indian nations changed their war policies and turned their backs on the French. Faced with the greater resources of the British and lacking the advantage of their Indian allies, the French were left with little hope, and soon lost the continent.
War has been around for centuries. From the time modern civilizations began, war has played an integral part in human history. It shaped the world into the modern world we live in. War has been said to be a great motivator, for example, the Great Wall of China was built to fend off the attackers from the north. However, the negative aspects of war far outweighs any positive effects it might have. The destruction of civilizations, cities and countries, mass killings of men, woman and children alike, the disastrous effect it has on economy and the after effects of war can last for centuries.
