Was Oskar Schindler Selfish

In the movie Schindler’s List, Oskar Schindler went from being a selfish, rich and

somewhat cocky Nazi to being a nice and caring man who wanted to save as many Jews as

possible before the war ended.

At the beginning of the movie Oskar Schindler only cared about money. Schindler always

had cash on him and a lot of it. Anytime he needed or wanted something, for example more Jews

for his factory, he used his money to bribe people to get what he wants. Schindler also did not

respect his relationship with his wife. He didn’t respect their relationship because he cheated on

her, and not just once, multiple times. Schindler was selfish at the beginning of the movie

because he used the Jews for his own good. The Jews ran his business, and

got money for him

instead of him doing the work. His main goal in life was to get more money.

Schindler was a horrible guy in the beginning, but in the middle of the movie he started to

change. The part that made him start to change was when he watched the Jews get shot, killed,

and liquidated from their homes. At that point in the movie he realized that he was a part of the

group of people that were doing these things to the Jews.

At the end of the movie Schindler had become a completely different person. He was no

longer the selfish, rich and somewhat cocky Nazi. Money was not his main goal, it was to save

as many Jews as possible. Schindler used all of his money to save the Jews and was completely

broke by the end of the war. He also no longer cheated on his wife and even asked her to live

with him. It was even prohibited to shoot Jews at his camp.

By the end of the war Oskar Schindler had saved over two thousand Jews, and even then

he was upset that he didn’t save more. That definitely shows how much Schindler had changed

from the beginning to the end of the movie.
