All logic points to the Warriors and Cavaliers appearing in a third straight NBA Finals match-up. Is this kind of predictability killing the NBA regular season? The NBA balance of power has become extremely lopsided in an era where "super-teams" reign supreme. Since 2011, the Eastern Conference was dominated by LeBron James-led teams. Before each season, it had been fairly simple to assume that whichever team "The King" was on, would make the NBA Finals. Sure enough, his Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers teams were the only representatives from the East in that time frame. In the same period of time, the Western Conference produced a mixed bag of champions. Four different teams from the West appeared in the NBA Finals, including the Mavericks, Thunder, Spurs, and Warriors. The parody in the Western Conference …show more content…
With so many options and platforms, a more intriguing program is just a click away. The progressive media landscape has allowed fans to bypass watching entire games, in favor of highlight packages on their computers or phones. Television numbers aren't the only gauge showing the regular season's demise. When you have LeBron James sitting out several games just to rest, it's obvious that his sights are set on something greater. Besides special dates (Opening Night, Christmas), LeBron is coasting through the season. By resting without injury, he signals at just how meaningless regular season games are to him. If even he knows that the Cavaliers are going to make the NBA Finals, why would we bother watching these meaningless games? Hardcore NBA junkies and sports gamblers are always going to tune in, we know that. However, it's the casual fan that's falling by the wayside. Less Is More: Restructuring May Be The Best Option As long as the "super team" era is around, not much is going to
Lebron James is a well known professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron is often referred to as one of the greatest to ever pick up a basketball. Lebron makes money from playing basketball but a substantial amount of his income comes from sponsorships and endorsement deals with outside brands. This is where his social media plays a huge part of his life.
It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When comparing Jordan and James’ clutch capabilities, or their ab...
James uses logic and reasoning to justify his actions. He said that Miami , “has almost been like college for other kids.” College gives kids the time that they need to become independent and mature, successful adults. Miami gave James the opportunity to grow up and become his own person. He continued by discussing his original goals and the desire to win a championship. Years later, after fulfilling his dream and winning two championships, he wanted to come home, “bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio,” likewise he wanted to raise his family in his
Jonathan Ebrahimi () : For starters, I think we all agree that Westbrook was snubbed this year. He’s keeping a largely under-talented Thunder team in the thick of the playoff hunt and is putting up historically great numbers to do it. Out East, there are two players I feel have been overlooked. For starters, Isaiah Thomas has been having a wonderful season for Boston. His team is winning and he’s the main reason why. It’s not that Kyrie hasn’t been great but he obviously isn’t the main reason why Cleveland is winning, and to be fair the Cavs have been a little disappointing in their championship defense. Another overlooked player is Paul Millsap. Although Jimmy Butler and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been better statistically speaking, Millsap has been solid and the Hawks have a winning record.
The National Basketball Association no longer holds the prominence that it once had. In the aftermath of the lockout that took away half of the 1998-99 season, the National Basketball Association finds itself looking into an uncertain future. Appearing similar to the state of the league during the mid 1980's, the NBA finds itself with a tarnished image and no icon's to build the league around. With the retirement of Michael Jordan and the number of superstars in which the league built its popularity on during the 1990's getting smaller, the National Basketball Association sits in limbo while it searches for its new identity.
Looking at the statistics, not only were they unsuccessful, ... ... middle of paper ... ... from. Like I said before, the NBA is a business, and the main objective of a business is to make money. They have to realize that the big money in sports comes from corporate dollars: Sponsorships, Commercials, and Luxury Suites.
First, the industry is organized by the NBA to have 30 equally balanced competitors. So, the distribution of capacity across teams must be relatively equivalent in order to maintain game suspense and thus it attract fans. The NBA endorses competitive balance with different measures such as reverse-order draft choices, salary caps, revenue sharing and etc.
Most players that enter the NBA draft early are 19 or 20 years-old. They are going to end up playing against 25-year-olds that are stronger, faster, and that have had more experience than they have. Along with more experience, they will not be as physically fit because one or two years of college will not do it, and high school will not do it. For example, Lebron James. He is considered one of the best to have played the game, and he went straight out of high school. Imagine if he had gone to college, he would be so much better. So if they leave after the freshman or sophomore year, they will be about five or six years behind and that will make it harder to get a spot on the bench. If they do not make it to the bench, then they will be in the D league for 2 or 3 years to help develop their skills. “The D-League uses a tiered compensation system that's based on experience. Players with ample NBA

...e Western Conference. While a casual NBA fan probably will never root for their team to lose, it is not only an unorthodox way to root for a team; it can also prove to be extremely effective in the long run.
Weaknesses Poor management of player relations. Deteriorating brand image of certain players. Little to no control of the players off the court. The goal of creating a fair playing field among big and small market teams has led to too many regulations. Few superstar talents to draw fan attention/loyalty.
Who knew basketball would evolve into this? It just may be the greatest event in sports history.
The Warrior’s Honour by Michael Ignatieff conveys the harsh realities of ethnic war to the reader. It opens a window to pictures and experiences that most cannot, and do not , think of on a daily basis. Michael Igantieff has experienced there realities as he travelled around the world in his work as a journalist, and it is in this book that he shares with us his thoughts and ideas about these war torn countries. In this paper I will review the book and discuss major themes and arguments, as well as the downfall and shortcomings of it.
Basketball has had a large impact in the society. In the NBA, the teams bring out nationalism within their city. Various cities have a National basketball team representing them in the NBA. This in turn brings out a healthy competition that paves the way to socialization, support, and unity among individuals. NBA players can have a positive impact on individuals as well as an entire nation. ESPN deemed Jeremy Lin, an NBA player, to have the ability to expand basketball largely in China.
