In the search for who is the victim in the war, there arose different opinions on whether the perpetrator can be regarded as the victim, some people believe that the perpetrators can never be a victim, because they are responsible for the killing, abusing and raping during the war. But other are hold the different idea, there is a frequently using word in the holocaust research that fits the question—the perpetrator trauma. How can we understand the perpetrator trauma? And how can we distinguish the victim and perpetrator in the war? with these questions, we look into the Folman’ animated movie Waltz with Bashir, which is a very good work for us to dig and see how the war affect the perpetrators in the post-war life, and can we see the perpetrators …show more content…

After seeing the animated documentary film Waltz with Bashir, my view toward victim and perpetrator during the war is breaking down, and from the perspective of an Israeli soldier, I know that they suffered from the trauma of killing and pain.
It is clear for me to distinguish who is the good and who is the evil, who is the victim and who is the perpetrator before. But now, I recognize that the shift in the movie from the trauma suffered by victims to that suffered perpetrators is more complicated than I thought before. The movie seeks to find answers to the question that who is the victim of the war and the answer is also in the movie. As for me, the victims probably have more right to use the event for their personal narrative, but in the Waltz with Bashir, the story teller is an aggressor who kills people and stands there and sees the massacre happen. This narrative shift between victim and perpetrator is one of the most striking moments for me to see the movie and read the book. Because we often read the memory of victims of a war and the way we see the war is through the eyes of them, like the people who survived the massacre or people witness their loved one’ dying. And this story teller is the perpetrator—the soldier of the
war.
Theodore Roethke's poem “My Papa's Waltz” is a unique American poem which is written in iambic trimeter. The poem captures the sometimes intense relationship between father and son. Roethke's own father, a German immigrant, died when he was still a teenager. His father was a major inspiration in his life and images from his childhood appear throughout his poetry. A biographer, Matt Forster comments that “His poems are often explorations of his own psyche, using imagery from his childhood to describe his interior life (Forster 2005).” He became one of the best known American poets by the end of his lifetime in 1963. In the famous poem “My Papa's Waltz” the author uses musicality and deep psychologically-rooted themes to create a poem that is unforgettable and alive with action. The poem is composed in iambic trimeter which parallels the 1, 2, 3 tempo of a waltz. This feature helps in creating the illusion of musicality and dancing as is suggested in the poem's title. Thematically the poem comments on the oedipal complex, the intimate relationship between father and son, loss, memory and music.
Most narratives out of the Holocaust from the Nazis point of view are stories of soldiers or citizens who were forced to partake in the mass killings of the Jewish citizens. Theses people claim to have had no choice and potentially feared for their own lives if they did not follow orders. Neighbors, The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland, by Jan T. Gross, shows a different account of people through their free will and motivations to kill their fellow Jewish Neighbors. Through Gross’s research, he discovers a complex account of a mass murder of roughly 1,600 Jews living in the town of Jedwabne Poland in 1941. What is captivating about this particular event was these Jews were murdered by friends, coworkers, and neighbors who lived in the same town of Jedwabne. Gross attempts to explain what motivated these neighbors to murder their fellow citizens of Jedwabne and how it was possible for them to move on with their lives like it had never happened.
By means of comic illustration and parody, Art Spiegelman wrote a graphic novel about the lives of his parents, Vladek and Anja, before and during the Holocaust. Spiegelman’s Maus Volumes I and II delves into the emotional struggle he faced as a result of his father’s failure to recover from the trauma he suffered during the Holocaust. In the novel, Vladek’s inability to cope with the horrors he faced while imprisoned, along with his wife’s tragic death, causes him to become emotionally detached from his son, Art. Consequently, Vladek hinders Art’s emotional growth. However, Art overcomes the emotional trauma his father instilled in him through his writing.
The atrocities of the Belgian Congo and the Holocaust are two of the main events in history that have been responsible for the mass murdering of millions of people. Although these events significantly changed the course of humanity, and the story behind each one is very different, there are significant factors that make them alike as well as different. Many would agree that comparing two atrocities that affected the lives of so many people and gave a 180-degree turn to each of their countries would be something very difficult to achieve. However, by comparing the behavior of both the perpetrators and the victims of both cases, we might be able to further understand the lack of morality and the inspiration that led to these awful events. The perpetrators in both atrocities tended to have a similar pattern of behavior when it came to the way they saw their victims.
The events which have become to be known as The Holocaust have caused much debate and dispute among historians. Central to this varied dispute is the intentions and motives of the perpetrators, with a wide range of theories as to why such horrific events took place. The publication of Jonah Goldhagen’s controversial but bestselling book “Hitler’s Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust” in many ways saw the reigniting of the debate and a flurry of scholarly and public interest. Central to Goldhagen’s disputed argument is the presentation of the perpetrators of the Holocaust as ordinary Germans who largely, willingly took part in the atrocities because of deeply held and violently strong anti-Semitic beliefs. This in many ways challenged earlier works like Christopher Browning’s “Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland” which arguably gives a more complex explanation for the motives of the perpetrators placing the emphasis on circumstance and pressure to conform. These differing opinions on why the perpetrators did what they did during the Holocaust have led to them being presented in very different ways by each historian. To contrast this I have chosen to focus on the portrayal of one event both books focus on in detail; the mass shooting of around 1,500 Jews that took place in Jozefow, Poland on July 13th 1942 (Browning:2001:225). This example clearly highlights the way each historian presents the perpetrators in different ways through; the use of language, imagery, stylistic devices and quotations, as a way of backing up their own argument. This poem has a kept form. Even at a glance, it has a set form. It consists of four quatrains, each line being an iambic tritameter. The poem is about a young boy waltzing with his father. One can assume that the speaker is a young boy, or perhaps the poet reminiscing his youth. The father dances around in a haphazard manner, knocking over pans in the kitchen. Upon first glance, the tone is humorous. The picture one immediately forms is rather comical with the boy clinging on for dear life as his chuckling father spins him round and round, making a mess in the kitchen while the mother looks on discontentedly. However, the line, "whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy" suggests the father's drunkedness and "at every step you missed my right ear scraped buckle" suggests the dance was not an altogether joyful one. Lines such as "hung on like death", and "beat time on my head" are might even lead the reader to think the father is abusive of the boy.
The Holocaust an event so horrendous that uttering its name makes grown men tremble. The Nazi Party's wrath seemed unstoppable, likewise to a school bully picking its victims without the slightest of remorse. The events of the Holocaust were inhumane and discusting and are incapable of adaquate description through this paper or any for that matter. Eventhough the Holocaust has such an infamous negative connotation, it remains to be one of the most internationally well-known historical topics. The mystery that is Hitler, the mastermind behind the entire plot, is one code that may stay uncrackable for eternity. We are not completely in the dark as to his thoughts toward the "Final Solution" he meticulously devised though.
Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 film Inglourious Bastards entails a Jewish revenge fantasy that is told through a counterfactual history of events in World War II. However, this story follows a completely different plot than what we are currently familiar with. Within these circumstances, audiences now question the very ideas and arguments that are often associated with World War II. We believe that Inglourious Basterds is a Jewish revenge fantasy that forces us to rethink our previous understandings by disrupting the viewers sense of content and nature in the history of World War II. Within this thesis, this paper will cover the Jewish lens vs. American lens, counter-plots with-in the film, ignored social undercurrents, and the idea that nobody wins in war. These ideas all correlate with how we view World War II history and how Inglourious Basterds muddles our previous thoughts on how these events occurred.

The Holocaust refers to the genocide that took place during the World War II, where around six million Jews were killed by the Nazi, a National Socialist German Workers’ Party led by Adolf Hitler. The Nazi’s put Jews in the ghettos, and from here some were selected for transportation to extermination camps by use of a freight train. Majority of the Jews were killed in the gas chambers, in addition to this some were placed in concentration camps where they were used as slave labor till they died of exhaustion or disease (Spiegelman 62). In the comic book The Complete Maus by the Art Spiegelman, he has been able to portray his father Vladek’s life experiences during World War II as a survivor. I will be discussing both the short and long term consequences of the experiences of the Holocaust for Vladek Spiegelman.
When we encounter a Holocaust survivor, a lot of questions come to our mind. We start to wonder how did they manage to survive. We tend to assume that once the Holocaust was over, survivors began to reestablish their lives and their pain disappeared. However, Holocaust survivors suffered, and even after 70 years after the liberation, Holocaust survivors still experience difficulties on their day-to-day basis. In the years followed the Holocaust they struggled with their painful memories while attempting to renew their lives, most of them in new countries. The Holocaust was one of the greatest massacres against humanity. As time goes by, the Holocaust survivors’ memories start to fade. The obligation to remember is engraved on every Holocaust memorial, but even words “Never Forget” become wearing eventually. Introduction: The Holocaust was an event that took place in Germany which means ‘sacrifice by fire’ in Greek; many murdered Jews were the consequences of this terrible action caused by Adolf Hitler. According to the website United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) it states that “The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.” This terrific slaughter was a racial and discriminatory oppression for the Nazis to the minorities. The Holocaust is an important and historical event taught in schools and known by many people. The word ‘holocaust’ is associated with massive deaths based on the background of Hitler’s actions during 1939-1945.
