A person doesn’t really understand someone until he or she walks in his or her shoes. Scout learns this through encounters with several people, such as Jem and Walter Cunningham. A time where Scout had to walk in Walter’s shoes was when he had no lunch at school. He was offered a quarter from Miss Caroline, but kindly declined because he knew he could not pay her back. His family is also very poor compared to the rest of Maycomb. Another time is when Walter Cunningham came over for dinner. He was talking to Atticus about crops and the farm. He also piled a lot of food on his plate because he never gets to eat like the Finch family. When he asks Calpurnia if they have molasses he smothers his whole plate with the delicacy. Scout is very confused
