1. Paraphrase what is happening in this section (aim for simplicity here). Do this for both sections.
The stanza explains that the absolute peace that the narrator feels, is because of the small things in life. In this section, Whitman is telling us that the soul must be kept in its place. He wants to show us that our soul, is the most peaceful thing we can have in life. By being intimate with your own soul, that can lead to "peace and joy and knowledge." At the end Whitman is trying to slowly sneak in a little bit of his religious beliefs, stating that God is a part of his own nature and by no means is a separate being. Love helps the world to be steady, and that love is a “kelson of the creation.”

3. Of the words and phrases that are new to you, what are their precise definitions?
The phrases that were new to man were: And that a kelson of the creation is love and Loafe with me on the grass, loose the stop from your throat. The meaning of these two phrases goes as follows. For the first phrase, love is a "kelson of the creation." A kelson is a beam that helps a ship to sail steadily. What Whitman is saying that love helps to keep the world steady. For the second, Whitman is inviting his “soul” to relax with him in the grass, as being peaceful is what everyone needs in life.

The connotation of the phrase, “And I know that the spirit of God is the brother of my own” is, the one has a feeling of fraternity and oneness with God and his fellow men. The connotation of the phrase, “And that a kelson of the creation is love” is that since a kelson helps ships sail steadily, he is trying to describe how that love keep the world steady. The union of love, brings peace and joy into one's life.

These new and loaded words help me make sense of the poem in a larger, more thematic capacity by, paving a path for me to clearly understand what this section is about. Whitman is knowing for dropping random ideas, into his poems, and those ideas can easily throw you off track. With these loaded words, they are just like the assisting bars when you go bowling. For example, in the fourth line, the speaker's intention is extremely easy to comprehend. But, Whitman wants to throw in more details, in the next lines that might be able to throw you off if you aren’t aware of these phrases such as “valved voice”.
