and developed and so many different ways over the years. Why and how Disney World began (Travel with kids) (Mental Floss) (Wdwinfo) In 1964 Walt Disney started buying land to start Disney World. He bought many acres of Florida farmland. He chose the Florida area because he wanted to build on the east coast because that is where many people were coming from to go to Disneyland. He considered building Disney World somewhere by the Niagara Falls, but he decided the winters would be to cold there. So he decided with Florida. There he could be open year round. Also it was a good spot to build because the land was so cheap, because it was swampland. Walt Disney bought 27,433 acres of land. Another reason this was a key location was the major airport and major roads which would make the park easy to access. Nobody knew what was going to be put up there no body knew who was buying the land. Finally on November 15, 1965 the plans became public. Walt Disney told everyone his plans to make Disney world. He promised that it was going to be bigger and better than Disneyland. Walt Disney employed 9,000 people to help construct and build Disney world. The whole cost for the whole project was 400 million dollars. Many people wonder why Walt Disney would make another park when he already had Disneyland. Well here is why, Walt Disney would always stand by the entrance of Disneyland. When one time a family was leaving quite early in the day, which was not usual for people. So Walt Disney decided to ask the family why they were leaving so early. The family said that they were enjoying their time at Disneyland, but when they were on the Sky ride they saw how busy the traffic was on the highway. So they decided that they should get a head start on the traffic. Walt then decided that he was going to make a bigger park. He decided he wasn’t just going to have a land he was going to have a world. He was going to make it so that once you get into the park you would have nothing to do with the outside world.
