Disney made plans for the park to be built and later in the summer of 1954, the construction of the park began. The park is about 160 acres of land. When the park was getting ready for the opening day, the magical little park turned out to be a $17,000-magical kingdom. Disney's dream finally became true. "Disneyland opened up on July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California." (“The Grand Opening of Disneyland.”). The first opening day of Disneyland was supposed to be by private invitation only, but the tickets were counterfeited somehow, and 28,000 people showed up. The first day turned out to be known as "Black Sunday" because the rides broke down, water was inept for toilets and drinking fountains, food stands ran out of food, a heat wave caused freshly poured asphalt to capture shoes, and a gas leak made a few of the themed areas close temporarily. Disneyland Park opened to the public on Monday, July 18, 1955, at 10 a.m. By 2 o’clock in the morning, people were already lining up outside the park’s gates. The first person to buy a ticket and enter the park was David MacPherson. He got admission ticket number two, as Roy O. Disney arranged to pre-purchase ticket number one. A few years later, Disney wanted to build another theme park in Florida. It was planned to be five times bigger than Disneyland. In 1966, Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer. "After having a lung removed and several chemotherapy sessions, Disney collapsed in his home and was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital on December 15, 1966."(Schwartz). Walter Elias Disney died on December 15, 1966. His brother Roy, decided to carry out his dream and finished the second theme park, naming it in honor of his brother. Roy called it, Walt Disney World. Instead, he started concentrating on other things. On a business trip to Chicago in the late 1940s, Disney drew sketches of his ideas for an amusement park where he envisioned his employees spending time with their children. These ideas developed into a concept for a larger enterprise which was to become Disneyland. Disney spent five years of his life developing Disneyland and created a new company, called WED Enterprises, to carry out the planning and production of the park. In March 1952 Walt Disney got permission to build Disneyland. Construction work started in July 1954, and opened in July 1955; the opening ceremony was broadcast on ABC, which reached 70 million viewers. The park was designed as a series of themed lands, linked by the central Main Street, U.S.A a replica of the main street in his hometown of

Ever since I was a child, my family and I have been Disney fanatics. The Disney empire has created many amazing places, but my favorite location to visit is the Walt Disney World Resort. Every day 50,000 people from all over the world arrive at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida to experience the magic. When the park first opened its gates in 1971, 10,000 visitors made their way through. That number has multiplied five-fold and continues to multiply to this day. Since the 1971 opening, over 600 million people have experienced the magic of Disney. In my lifetime, I have visited the park with my family and friends six times. Each visit lasted four days in order to experience all the parks and their unique offerings. When I’m in Disney World, the experience each time is incredible.

For larger salaries most of his employees left, including Ub Iwerks. Pat also thought Disney would follow and give ownership to Mickey Mouse to him for a larger salary. Instead, Disney and his brother Roy bought out their contract and kept their rights to Mickey Mouse. The Disney Brothers Studio then became Walt Disney Studios. During the time of the Great Depression Disney experimented with color and sound. For his work during that time he won two Academy Awards.
