Magic. Creativity. Happiness. These are words that come to mind when one thinks of Walt Disney. His lively and energetic personality that reflected through his cartoons and movies is something that drew people to his creations. He was someone who not only accomplished so much with the time he had, but he also set a precedent for future cartoon producers. His animation techniques drastically changed the world of entertainment forever. Walt was someone who believed in himself and made things happen. When it was first distributed, that was not the case. Mickey first appeared in two short films called Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho. One problem was that Walt could not find distribution because he had just lost his contract with Margaret Winkler. Another problem was that sound had not been introduced in filming yet. However, when sound did become part of the filming industry, Walt used his voice as Mickey Mouse in a new short film called Steamboat Willie that appeared in New York in 1928. With the voices and music that were added to this film, it gained widespread popularity. "The day after its debut in Manhattan, Variety gave the cartoon a rave review, and The New York Times called it ingenious” (The Entrepreneur par. 6).

Mickey Mouse was definitely a turning point in Walt’s entertainment career. Soon after the first official showing in 1929, he created Silly Symphonies which enhanced the story of Mickey by making a cartoon with him and his friends. Some of the new characters added were Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck. Silly Symphonies was a major step towards Walt’s fame. However, Walt is not just an average producer. He was also a very driven and involved person. At this time, Walt had a family with his wife, Lillian, and daughter, Diane. Diane quoted, “Daddy never missed a father’s function no matter how I discounted it… he’d always be there, on time” (Just Disney par. 18). Even though Walt had a very busy life with his thriving studio, he always made sure he had time for his family. This is why he was very well liked by all his staff, friends, and family.

Walt Disney sadly passed away on December 6, 1966. However, his contributions were certainly not forgotten. To this day, children all over the world still watch movies and cartoons produced by Disney. His name has become known as one of the most popular filming studios, and they are still producing movies to this day. Some of them include Frozen, Wreck-It-Ralph, Disney Princess movies, and so much more. He never failed to go above and beyond, and live up to his full potential.
