What I learn that institutions are an important to society. They provide a structure for society that can guide social behaviors. When I think of institution they are providing a service to abundance of people. This institution consists of police, fire departments, and government. They provided a service that can benefit the greater population and without these institutions these services would be unavailable or extremely limited. However, some institutions when not regulated they can become detrimental to the people. Such as Walmart, they provide an excellent benefit to some communities. However, Walmart has crushed the small local businesses in the community because of Walmart is a on stop shop. Those once local own can no longer compete
with a mega institution of Walmart. These types of private intuition can create and shape a society. When it comes to religion some believe that subject should not be taught in school. Religious faith is a personal belief and it should remain personal. If religion is invited into the school curriculum this may ignite a conversation that is normally divisive. Religion being a very broad topic a person’s faith could be all most whatever. Keeping in mind there are those who don’t want or believe in religion. People should strive to respect others wishes by not imposing their religion or personal beliefs. Therefore, can be a very sensitive topic and can provoke many emotions. Therefore, that is why religion should not be a topic of decision in schools. However, school is a place where children go to learn but a religious curriculum should not be one of them. I do disagree that school prayer will decrease shootings in schools. The act of prayer does have its significant effects on some children character. However, that is not always the case. Prayer maybe vied in a subjective matter and may not necessary hold much weight. School shootings are sometimes a coconscious matter or a mental situation. I personally do not believe having prayer in school will necessary reduce shootings. Understanding that different groups might be even put others at odds at others because they may not pray to the same God. Therefore, this could escalate the problem. So the thought of prayer I believe it may not decrease school shootings.
Wal-Mart is one of the largest corporations in the world, and leads the pack of American retail stores in terms of size and sales income. The size of Wal-Mart allows the store to provide consumers with lower prices than most other retail chains, and much lower prices than small, "mom and pop" stores. Because of these reasons, is Wal-Mart a help or a hindrance; should Wal-Mart be given special consideration (i.e. tax breaks, location decisions); and should Wal-Mart be held responsible for improving economic and social conditions in communities in which it operates?
The goal for my ethnographic study is subjected to the study of the people of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is a place that varies from city to city, but still attracts many of the same people. Everyone knows the weird people that wear ridiculous things to do their normal routine of shopping. That is why I have chosen to do my mini ethnography one day while shopping as an insider at the local Wal-Mart in Auburn, Alabama. Wal-Mart is a large center for shopping that attracts many different types of people, while creating an environment within itself.
They 're just accessible at stores in the Toronto locale; however we 're attempting to get them in Wal-Mart stores crosswise over Canada.
Wal-Mart’s competitive environment is quite unique. Although Wal-Mart’s primary competition comes from general merchandise retailers, warehouse clubs and supermarket retailers also present competitive pressure. The discount retail industry is substantial in size and is constantly experiencing growth and change. The top competitors compete both nationally and internationally. There is extensive competition on pricing, location, store size, layout and environment, merchandise mix, technology and innovation, and overall image. The market is definitely characterized by economies of scale. Top retailers vertically integrate many functions, such as purchasing, manufacturing, advertising, and shipping. Large scale functions such as these give the top competitors a significant cost advantage over small-scale competition.
The Oxford Dictionary defines institution as “a society or organization founded for a religious, educational, social, or similar purpose”. On the contrary, an individual is defined as “a single human being as distinct from a group, class, or family”. Institutions are organizations created by groups of individuals in order to provide social order and guidelines for a community. Although institutions are intended for common good, they can ignore, manipulate or even enslave individuals. In corrupt institutions, authoritative figures maintain power by oppressing and persecuting those who threaten their authority and are even willing to exterminate individuals to protect the institutions. There are two types of individuals whom institutions typically persecute: those who cannot be molded into the ideal citizen; and those who speak out against the institution. Throughout history, authoritative figures and controlling institutions have taken extreme measures to stifle the individuals, threatening their power. For example, the German Nazi regime sought to
Walmart provides benefits to their employees regarding healthcare, education and financial benefits. The healthcare plan includes access to dental, vision and other procedures including counseling for post-accident cases. The medical plan covers both domestic partners and married couples. According to Wohl ( 2016), the company implemented the strategy to mitigate the loss of employees to other businesses that cover domestic relationships. Domestic relationships eligible for the benefits include legally married individuals, spouses with no documented separation, and two people with the same sex or opposite sex that have shared the same household and wish to settle together. The condition only applies to relationships existent for over 12 months and likely to continue for more years. However, if the spouse of a Walmart worker gets benefits
...d how mode of production was replaced by large corporate and government organizations. In short, an institutional pattern as such would not function in society unless somehow society was overpowered by demands or conditions.

Thank you for critiquing the case study presented in respect of Walmart Stores Inc. That being said, in what follows the author endeavours to respond to questions posed in the critique analysis. In terms of the question, “How Wal-Mart did address the change in customers taste? Was Wal-Mart able to satisfy the new culture’s needs and expectations?” The company commenced outside of North America with the same business philosophy fashioned at its headquarters (in Bentonville, Arkansas, United States). However, owing to failures in Germany and South Korea, Walmart redesigned its approach in terms of meeting the demand of consumers in countries outside of North America. Berg (2011) indicated that Walmart has transformed into more versatile entity
Wal-mart Stores Inc. and Procter & Gamble’s adopted the notion of continuous replenishment to implement an IT-dependent strategic initiative which features real-time scanner data transferring between Wal-mart and Procter & Gamble through its satellite-based network infrastructure. As a result, Wal-mart will be able to provide low cost products to its customers. Do you think Wal-mart can sustain this competitive advantage? Why do you think Wal-mart can or cannot sustain its competitive advantage? Which barriers to erosion can or cannot prevent the imitation and how?
As we have reviewed and studied the strategy, culture, finances and the challenges and successes at Wal-Mart, there are many strategies we see that the company must undertake to hold its dominate position and drive further growth. Social Institution - “a complex of positions, roles, norms and values lodged in particular types of social structures and organizing relatively stable patterns of human activity with respect to fundamental problems in producing life-sustaining resources, in reproducing individuals, and in sustaining viable societal structures within a given environment.” (Turner 1997: 6)
In order for society to meet the basic social needs of its members, social institutions, which are not buildings, or an organization or even people, but a system whose of social norms, mores and folkways that help make people feel important. Because social institutions prescribe socially accepted beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors, they exert considerable social control over individuals.
