In the ever-changing universe of animated films, Pixar's Wall-E remains one of them all, providing an engaging story that connects with audiences of all ages (EduBirdie). Released in 2008, Wall-E not only impresses the masses with its iconic imagery, but is powerful for humanity’s relationship with technology and the environment. It also sends a message to Set in the distant future, where Earth has been abandoned due to excessive pollution and environmental failure, the film offers a frighteningly realistic vision of our planet as a massive dumping ground, with life not knowing weed mountains filled (EduBirdie). One of the most amazing and touching things about Wall-E is its beautiful and deep character development, especially early on in the titular hero's journey. Wall-E is introduced to us as a humble and hardworking trash compactor, tirelessly cutting through the wastelands of humanity’s abandoned ruins. His life is defined by the act of solitude, actively carrying out his duties amidst the remnants of a bygone civilization. But in Eve, a beautiful and advanced robot sent to Earth to search for signs of life, Wall-E's life turns transformative. Their first contact sparked an unlikely friendship that too blossoms into a deeper romance and leads Wall-E on a different journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Through his experiences with EVE, Wall-E begins to overcome the limitations of his planned life, sparking his curiosity, empathy, and capacity for love in depth. As their relationship grows stronger, Wall-E emerges as a beacon of resilience, …show more content…
The degree of detail accomplished within the animation is nothing short of notable, glaring inside the problematic layout of Wall-E's weathered exterior and the smooth, polished surfaces of the excessive-tech spacecraft. Under the guidance of director Andrew Stanton, the film's team of animators painstakingly crafted every frame to awaken a profound feeling of marvel and immersion, inviting visitors to lose themselves within the meticulously realized globality of the movie. The assessment between Earth's barren wilderness and the sanitized, consumerist society aboard the Axiom serves as a hanging, visible metaphor for the growing chasm between nature and era. Through masterful animation, Wall-E prompts visitors to contemplate the consequences of humanity's disconnection from the natural world, as symbolized by the stark dichotomy between the organic chaos of Earth's ruins and the sterile orderliness of lifestyles aboard the
In Wall-E there is a robot designed to clean the inhospitable earth in order for the human societies to come back. In the waste land, trash fills the streets and oceans completely dry up. The land is so hostile that the all the other robots break down and Wall-E is the only robot left. During
Star Wars was a low budget science-fiction film that became a blockbuster box office success. The movie has been extremely popular with all cultures and ages for several decades. As well as being popular Star Wars also conveys many important themes. I believe one of the more prominent themes throughout the movie is the classic hero journey. The hero journey is a major part of stories and myths throughout the world. Both primitive and modern cultures use hero journeys as the basis for stories. The three main parts of a hero journey are the departure, the initiation, and the return. Luke’s departure is caused by a variety of factors.
...nd nature and the consequence of humankind overindulging in the superfluous luxuries that are beyond the necessities of food, shelter, clothing and fuel. Perhaps Wall-e is a message that the transcendentalist beliefs of Emerson and Thoreau should still be uplifted today, or maybe it was unintentional that the modern popularity of environmentally friendly movements encloses the fossil messages.
...he development of characters and their response to the events of the plot, Ridley Scott and the actors communicate the way relationship between humanity and nature has evolved (deteriorated) into the world of 2019 LA.
Today in the world there are many types of adventures that are closely related to the Hero’s Journey. In the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, it uncovers the adventure of Christopher Boone searching for the killer of Wellington, his neighbor’s dog. Christopher ran away from Swindon, his hometown, because he discovered that his father lied about his mother’s death and that he killed Wellington. While on his adventure, Christopher encounters challenges such as talking to strangers and being followed by a police officer. Since Christopher was a person who showed symptoms of Asperger’s Syndrome, a developmental disorder that affects a person’s ability to socialize with others, it causes him to have a hard time
There are many stories that follow Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, and tells the tale of a Heroic character. These fables introduces us to heroes that begin their journey in an ordinary place, then receive a call to enter an unknown world full of bizarre powers and peculiar events. These heroes often display great traits, such as bravery or intelligence, that defines their character. One of these heroic's tales is Haroun and the Sea of Stories, telling the adventures of a young man named Haroun. This essay will prove that Haroun from Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie is a hero, because he possess heroic qualities. Haroun shows his heroic qualities by overcoming obstacles, helping his friends, and having good intentions.
“The journey of the hero is about the courage to seek the depths; the image of creative rebirth; the eternal cycle of change within us; the uncanny discovery that the seeker is the mystery which the seeker seeks to know. The hero journey is a symbol that binds, in the original sense of the word, two distant ideas, and the spiritual quest of the ancients with the modern search for identity always the one, shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find.” (Phil Cousineau) The Hero's Journey has been engaged in stories for an immemorial amount of time. These stories target typical connections that help us relate to ourselves as well as the “real world”.
A hero’s journey is an important aspect of any movie. Sports films give a good indication of how the hero’s journey is trying to be portrayed. In the movie “The Rookie” is a 2002 film starring Dennis Quaid as Jim Morris who is a small town teacher finds himself playing baseball for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays farm system after an open tryout. Directors go through the journey closely isolate each particular aspect giving clear indication from one transition to the next.
Many people are familiar with Disney Pixar’s WALL-E to be known as a children’s movie. The film is mainly known for the romantic relationship between two robots, EVE and WALL-E. Even though the targeted audience was children, the film became a favorite to people of all ages. The director, Andrew Stanton’s main theme for the film was showing a robot being the most human thing in the universe. Nevertheless, the audience found other themes shown throughout the film. The three main common themes were protecting the environment, caring for human health, and realizing our dependence on technology.
In Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the hero’s journey begins with Charlie starting his freshman year of high school. Charlie just wants to make new friends to help him get through these next four years. This is shown when he is writing to his pen pal who he calls “friend”. In the letter he states that his best friend Michael “shot and killed himself because he had problems at home” (Chbosky 5). When Charlie found out he was very confused and shocked, and often times putting the blame on himself. Charlie’s Aunt Helen also sexually abused Charlie when he was younger; and has passed away. Charlie has trouble coping with this and feels very alone. These events are often on Charlie’s mind, affecting his depression and making him a very quiet, introverted, and self conscious individual.
In Wall-E, a waste-collecting robot demonstrated incredible strength and resilience despite living on a desolate abandoned Earth. Despite his repetitive routine of compacting garbage and collecting items of interest, Wall-E displays immense emotional depth and an ability to adapt to his environment. He also faced challenges continuously throughout the film, including environmental hazards, encounters with hostile robots, and ultimately, a quest to save
The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative that appears in novels, storytelling, myth, and religious ritual. It was first identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell in his book A Hero with Thousand Faces. Campbell also discussed this pattern in his interview to Bill Moyers which was later published as a book The Power of Myths. This pattern describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds. Campbell detailed many stages in the Hero’s Journey, but he also summarized the pattern in three fundamental phases: Separation, Ordeal, and Return that all heroes, in spite of their sex, age, culture, or religion, have to overcome in order to reach the goal. Alice in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll, provides a good example of the Hero's Journey. This story describes the adventures of Alice, a young English girl, in Wonderland. Although she lacks some of the stages identified by Campbell, she still possesses many of them that are necessary for a Hero to be considered a Hero.
After going through the first semester of First Year Seminar Deconstructing Disney my viewpoints on many things have changed and how I watch and perceive films has also changed. However, the way I perceive the film Wall-E has not changed much. I am not sure if it is due to not covering this movie specifically or because I still hold on to the memory of how I first perceived it and am unwilling to change how I do. To me, Wall-E depicts a great love story as well as media and technology addiction with the addition of destruction due to overconsumption. After the knowledge that I have gained from class, I tried perceiving the film in a different
Our Relationship With the Environment: It’s Complicated According to Epa.gov, every minute 12000 tons of carbon dioxide are added to the atmosphere and every hour, 1,692 acres of productive dry land becomes desert. However, Blockbuster movies typically do not have this type of alarming information because that is not what the public wants to see. Ironically, it is interesting how humanity finds it enjoyable to watch apocalyptic films, especially when the culprit isn’t us because it is easier to blame to aliens than to take the blame for destroying our only home. Christopher Nolan , director of the epic sci-fi blockbuster Interstellar, uses intense music, nostalgia, camera movements, and mise en scene to demonstrate how apocalyptic our future
One of the films that deal greatly with the effects of overconsumption on the environment is the animated motion picture WALL-E (2008). The movie is set on Earth in the year 2805 where the Earth is a barren wasteland, void of any signs of life (save for cockroaches).
